Quote You don't need to have a dedicated video card to edit and produce videos, but having the right one will make producing much faster if you're using H.264 (AVC) or H.265 (HEVC) encoding. It won't help at all if you're producing to WMV or MPEG-2 for DVDs.

If your new computer has an Intel CPU, PD can use its built-in QuickSync hardware encoder to produce to those standards, or you can get an nVidia or AMD GPU with the appropriate hardware for PD to utilize.

As seen in this nVidia table, the GTX1060 has the same supported formats as the RTX series with the exception of HEVC B-frame support. PD doesn't actually support that feature at this time so you won't miss out by having the older GTX card.

Thanks, and to all others who posted. It seems impossible to get hold of a decent video card in the UK at the moment, and they're going for silly prices on Ebay. My current one has an AMD Radeo HD 6450 which seems to be doing the job, so I'll just transfer that to the new computer for now until I can find an updated one. He's going to look for the relevant Intel CPU anyway.
I'm having a new computer build as my current one is on its deathbed. I make fairly simple music videos, mostly just me, a guitar and a green screen background. I see below someone recommends the Geoforce RTX 2060, but I really can't afford that. Would the GTX1060-6Gb be adequate for PD18?
I don't do any gaming PD is the only graphics hungry program I use.
Finally, would using a sound card rather than the onboard sound make any difference to the video processing?
Thanks for any advice.
Quote: Hi
I'm having exactly the same problem and it only started about 4-5 days ago. It seems that PD9 has started tochange my uploads to some crazy widescreen format!
I'm sorry to ask, but can I just clarify what you guys are saying:
ie - If I want to continue to edit video's in PD 9 and upload them to Youtube (which I do) there's nothing that can be done about this problem. But if I upgrade to PD11 it should all work OK.

Thanks for your help.
Andy

You can't do the direct upload until YouTube sorts itself out, and it doesn't look as though it's going to bother. If you just run the project into an MP4 you can use the YT uploader and it all works fine. Irritating, as there should be something PD could do about it if it doesn't affect 10 or 11, but I suppose they don't much care about us bods stuck on 9 any more. Which is not encouraging me to invest in further softare from them, I must admit, as no doubt the same sort of problem will arise again... and again...
Quote: Upload in MP4 works fine. Is there a way to change the "YouTube upload" format in PD9? Maybe 10 or 11 use a diffrent format.

There again, if 10 or 11 work OK, maybe PD could issue a fix for 9...

Quote: Hi Arthur -

If you've uploaded a WMV file, it's a YouTube issue with WMV files out of PD9 (and othe NLEs apparently)

http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/27671.page

If you upload in a different format (e.g. MPEG-4) through your channel, you'll find it's OK.

If that's not the issue, you'll need to give more information about the source video & the production selections.

Cheers - Tony

Many thanks - I've just wasted a morning reloading PD then! I'l try it as a Mpeg 4. God to have an explanation.
Hi. I haven't changed any settings from previous successful uploads, but when I upload a new video to YouTube it comes out seriously flattened - stretched faces etc. Video is from an MP4, and I've tried converting it to AVI with the same result. Doesn;t seem to mae any difference what resolution I use either.m It looks fine on the computer. I'm using PD9version 9.0.9.3305. Any clues?
I think I've seen something baout this but can't find it - the YouTube upload doesn't seem to recognise the passwords as valid any more in PD9 3305 - is this likely to be fixed?
Quote: Hi Arthur,
1. You've got a low powered computer.
2. From the images, you're asking the PC to render a number of actions you've added.
3. My guess is the time taken appears about right.

Thanks - I did have a suspicion of that. The computer was built for me - I'll have a word with the guy who built it, give him the PD9 box and get him to build me one to the specs on it. Is there anything in addition to that I should have?
Screenshot of edit page attached. thanks, arthur.
Version is PD Deluxe 9.0.0.2930 (32 Bit)
DXdiag and screeshot attached. I've probably missed something obvious - still a newcomer to this.

Hope this helps! Could it be becuase the video is being slightly resized as it is being rendered? I'm sure the previous one I did didn't take this long and it was much more complex.

Thanks, Arthur.
PD9 is taking over three hours to render a 3 minute music video for a YouTube upload - I am presuming I'm doing something wrong! It's an MP4 video of about 350 meg, plus an MP3 track and half a dozen stills. Is there any way of speeding this up, and would it be quicker if I didn't use the MP4 HD video?
Quote: Yes it does...updates are all updates

Thanks - that was quick! i thought this would be the case but as a new user thought best to check.
Just got the latest update for PD9. Does this include all the previous ones, or do I need to run those as well to update the original prog?
Quote: Welcome to the forum. Yes, turning off hardware acceleration does resolve some issues that arise for PD9 users.

The preview window is just that - a preview. It is consuming varying amounts of CPU, depending on the resolution selected, so sync problems are not unusual, particularly at high resolutions, and particularly if the computer is underpowered.

Hope this helps. Have a great day.

Regards,
-Phil

Thanks Phil - I shall do that. It's nice to have a forum where you get real help - the one provided for my (unnamed) previous software was worse than useless!

All the best, arthur.
The previous software I tried advised me to turn off hardward accelerationin Windows inorder to free upprocessing power. Is this relevant to this software?

I also found that the preview of the film shows the music and video out of sync but the final rendered file was fine. I presume this is down to a processing time problem which is why I wondered about the gardward acceleration thing...
Thanks for the quick replies - I appreciate it. I have no idea what I've done but it now seems to have registered online and activated the codec. I've re-installed PD from scratch, turned off the firewall (but I did that before) and mucked about with the network and net conenctions. Something must have done it but I have no idea what!
Anyway, thanks for the friendly answers to a somewhat tetchy initial query. I will probably be back...
My real problem is activating the H.264 codec. i don;t really care about the rest of it, except that it's annoying that noneof these programs seem to work right out of the box. I can't understand why it says consistenly I'm not connected to the net when every other part of the program apart from registration and the H.264 activation works fine and connects straight away. It must clash with something somewhere, but I've turned everything off. Could it be Fierfox/thunerbird it doesn't like? Can't see why & I've tried taking those off the Pc anyway.

I've switched of the windows Firewall (the only one I have) turned off AVG virus protection and I still get the same message. Online laccess is fine from in the program for uploading to YouTube or to log on to the"share"website, but not for updats or registration. Could it be a clash with IE8? I can't get rid of it and try an earlier version unfortunately. The registration I'm not bothered about, but I need this H.264 codec.

As a further confusion, I've tried loading it onto my wife's computer which links to the net via a wireless link. From there I can register OK but the program won't run. Could this be something to do with the network? My PC is connected by a wired link, hers by wireless.
Quote: Hi Arthur,
My guess is you have a firewall blocking part of PD accessing the internet. You need to check you've allowed PD full internet access. Check your firewall/programs status - it should list all the programs you allow access to the internet.

For function activation you do not need to recall any code or anything - just be online to activate.

I have access to PD9's functions because I and others have allowed PD9 access beyond our firewall.
