Loading HD video

When I try to load a HD video, I get a mesage saying I have to log on to activate this (H.** can't remember the number). I then have the same problem as I have when trying to register the program, which lots of people seem to have, in that Pd tells me I have no Internet connection. But it will upload OK to YouTube etc. Also, automatic updates doesn't log on.
I usually use Firefox but have switched to IE8 as default browser and updated Java to no avail. I have installed the latest updates from the website. I've tried switching out of the network, removing all the wireless stuff, my connection is wired.

This appears to be a longstanding fault - the downloaded trial veersion had the same problem but i assumed it would have been fixed in the commercial one. Can I get this H.?? file from anywhere else? Seems daft the thing not working out of the box... and the internet issue should have been fixed in one of the updates. Suggestions to pay Tech support for something that should be standard are not on!

So has any other user managed to get HD9 to log on? Arthur

Hi Arthur,
My guess is you have a firewall blocking part of PD accessing the internet. You need to check you've allowed PD full internet access. Check your firewall/programs status - it should list all the programs you allow access to the internet.

For function activation you do not need to recall any code or anything - just be online to activate.

I have access to PD9's functions because I and others have allowed PD9 access beyond our firewall.

I've switched of the windows Firewall (the only one I have) turned off AVG virus protection and I still get the same message. Online laccess is fine from in the program for uploading to YouTube or to log on to the"share"website, but not for updats or registration. Could it be a clash with IE8? I can't get rid of it and try an earlier version unfortunately. The registration I'm not bothered about, but I need this H.264 codec. Arthur

As a further confusion, I've tried loading it onto my wife's computer which links to the net via a wireless link. From there I can register OK but the program won't run. Could this be something to do with the network? My PC is connected by a wired link, hers by wireless. Arthur

Without knowing what the computer specs are we cannot even guess why your wife's computer will not run after install. Usually it is because the computer cannot run it due to low machine specs, out of date drivers and codecs and Quicktime not installed, ect, ect.

The same for your computer too.

In the setting under the general tab, turn OFF auto check for updates.... a useless option of many...the way to check for update patches is to go look on their site.

My real problem is activating the H.264 codec. i don;t really care about the rest of it, except that it's annoying that noneof these programs seem to work right out of the box. I can't understand why it says consistenly I'm not connected to the net when every other part of the program apart from registration and the H.264 activation works fine and connects straight away. It must clash with something somewhere, but I've turned everything off. Could it be Fierfox/thunerbird it doesn't like? Can't see why & I've tried taking those off the Pc anyway. Arthur

Hi,
Firefox etc doesn't play a part in the activation of PD9 sections.

AVG doesn't affect PD9 activation.

It is the firewall which would block access and you may need a second look at the sections of the firewall program you are using, a bit more thoroughly. I use a different firewall from you.

Thanks for the quick replies - I appreciate it. I have no idea what I've done but it now seems to have registered online and activated the codec. I've re-installed PD from scratch, turned off the firewall (but I did that before) and mucked about with the network and net conenctions. Something must have done it but I have no idea what!
Anyway, thanks for the friendly answers to a somewhat tetchy initial query. I will probably be back... Arthur
