My uploaded video to Youtube turns out weird. Vid shows almost like 16:9 is rotated wrong (not sure if I'm explaining this correctly) picture is taller than across the screen. Viewing it looks "bunched up" or compressed. Large black spaces on either side of video.

I'm sure it's something that's not turned on in the PD8 but I have no idea what it might be.

Any help would be appreciated. Intimidated Semi-Old Dude

How about a link to that Youtube video so we may look at it.

And a Screen Shot of your Powerdirector Edit module with the project loaded.
A whole screen shot not parts of Powerdirector.

Hi GuyB -

There's something going down here. Something difficult to fathom.

Here http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/27655.page#151481 you'll find a number of test videos I uploaded using PD9 - all of which exhibited the same problem you're talking about.

The weird things are that:
1. the WMV files produced to the PC are correct (16:9)
2. repeating the same steps in PD10 or PD11, the YouTube display is correct.

It's got me because, when you look at the profile details the WMV/YouTube profiles are exactly the same (as far as my eyes can tell).

Media Info shows the produced files from PD9, 10 & 11 to be "the same", even though they're being displayed differently on YouTube. (attached)

Cheers - Tony

Do you think its because I'm using AVCHD format to shoot the video? I did a direct upload of a short clip and it played correctly. Does PD8 support AVCHD? The camera is in SP mode. I Just Don't Get It!!!!!!

Have you heard of PD11 having this problem? I'm thinking of buying it to replace this? Intimidated Semi-Old Dude

Hi Guy -

No - it's not anything to do with what you're shooting. That was one of the first thoughts I had.

SP mode on the Canons is 1440x1080 @ 7MBps. Users have (in the past) had difficulties when they've produced to 1440x1080 then uploaded to YouTube, which doesn't cope with non-square pixels.

This issue has nothing to do with that!

My previous tests used 1440x1080 and 1920x1080 clips from a Canon HF S10, showing that the shooting mode was irrelevant.
http://youtu.be/fGfuVCu1CYk and http://youtu.be/kBzQZAKNegw

I just did some tests using clips from a Sanyo Xacti -1920x1080 MPEG-4 - and got the same (but different) ridiculous distortion
First, using PD9's YouTube uploader (FULL HD Quality profile) - http://youtu.be/XJ3RwogC9ko
Second - same procedure & selections with PD10 - http://youtu.be/T55e9rqNH3c
Third, using the 1280x720 (HD Quality) profile in PD9 - http://youtu.be/Ic7hEUBq_G8

Again, as in all previous tests, the produced files on my PC from PD9 & PD10 are all 16:9 & display properly.

Just to clarify, other formats (AVC, MP4, MP2 etc) in PD9 are not afflicted - only WMV & only on YouTube

Here's the same video on Vimeo https://vimeo.com/62741328

Yep - it's got me too!

Cheers - Tony

I found this topic. It is happening to others too that have never had a problem before. It is pretty "strange". It seems to be only with 16:9 wmv uploaded files to YouTube having the problem. Some comments made about the YouTube transcoder causing the problem.

Someone in this topic in the following link offered a temporary fix that worked for some and not for others.

Having the same problem. I pasted "yt:stretch=16:9 " into the tags and the problem is solved thankfully. Gotta love youtube

It might be of help.....or not.

Hey Guy & Kevin -

That fix works on some of the test videos I've uploaded. Just add "yt:stretch=16:9" to the tags.

I'm glad there's a way around it, & thanks for posting it Kevin.

Still - whatever fix there is - it begs the question for me... (still) what makes the issue occur using PD9 but not PD10 or 11, especially when the WMV profiles are essentially the same.

BUT - a fix is better than no fix.

The problem does appear to be very widespread. I didn't see any confirmation from Google that it was a technical problem. But it appears that Google is looking into it.

I hope it all get resolved soon.

I understand exactly what you are saying Tony. It doesn't really make any sense at all. I just thought I would point out that it is happening to other people using different editing applications creating 16:9 WMV videos And uploading them to YouTube. It is a bit of a mystery indeed!

FWIW,

Quoted from the Google forum regarding YouTube issues from a Google representative.

Hi all,

We're looking into an issue that causes aspect ratio on videos to change from 16:9 to 4:3.

Thanks for your patience as we investigate this!

Thanks Kevin -

In my case (and GuyB's) YouTube didn't change the AR from 16:9 to 4:3

It changed it from 1.77:1(16:9) to 1:1, then later from 16:9 to 3.158:1! It's probably all related.

Anyway -

Hi,

I'm using PD9 Ultra64, build 3305.

It seem that the problem with strech and/or shrunk only was yesterday (2013-03-26) or 03-25 too.

I uploaded two videos yesterday in 16:9 format (1280x720) - one was streched to 1920 the other was shrunked to 4:3.
two days before uploads were OK and when I made a test today it was OK again.

I pasted "yt:stretch=16:9 " into the tags (a very good hint) on the two disorted videos and the problem is solved for both but thumbnails on administrator site still looks strange.

Has YouTube fixed the problem yet? It appears so.

I just did a test uploading a video using the PowerDirector YouTube up loader Full HD Quality 1920X1080 WMV profile and the resulting video on YouTube player was as expected in player. 16:9 aspect ratio.

Is anyone else still seeing a distorted video in the YouTube player now?

Not for me, Cap'n -

PD10 & 11 WMV output didn't have the issue with YouTube display aspect ratio, but on PD9 - without adding the "yt:stretch=16:9" into the tags - I still get this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2YPVVVcsgw

Duh! Sorry Tony! I am suffering from taking care of "twins brain" today. In my haste making lunch for the kids and wiping noses and "may I have something to drink", I produced with 11. Sorry for the bad information.

I will produce it with 9. Twin Brain Mush afflicted.

I'm using PD9 Ultra64, build 3305.

Yesterday noon my uploaded test was ok, - but around midnight it's bad again -
my new HD video is streched to Full HD.

I reloaded the video, now it's stretched across the screen and distorted that way.

Forgive this newbie question but what & where exactly do you insert the tags 16:9 for proper viewing.

Thanks! Intimidated Semi-Old Dude
