Power Director 9 is highly touted in the Cyberlink ads as using something called "True Velocity 64" to speed up the rendering process, but my ACVHD to DVD-HQ conversions take the same amount of time with PD9 as they took with PD8. Perhaps I need to enable something in Windows 7, or Catalyst Control Center, or in PD9 to take advantage of this "True Velocity 64"?
And yes... I do have 64Bit Windows 7. (8gb Ram / Phenom II w/4cpu 2600mhz clock / ATI 4350HD Card)

When I upgraded from PD8 to PD9, the "Holiday Pack" was prominently featured as a freebie. It was a separate download link on the order confirmation/instruction sheet. This was about 2 weeks ago.
But it looks like the Holiday Menu Pack is no longer free. It's a purchable add-on.

I made a couple of DVD's using the Christmas templates. The music and animation is very pleasing.

Robert2S,
I tried playing the clip using Windows Media Player with Power Director closed and it still wouldn't play. But, instead of freezing up, WMP gave me an error code that I researched on the net. I came across this discussion thread, on a Windows forum, applied the fix and VIOLA!, the problem was solved.
Ref Thread: http://help.lockergnome.com/vista/Windows-Media-Player-Access-File--ftopict59882.html
I don't think Power Director's patch directly caused the problem, but there was a program called "Cyberlink Wave Editor" that was reinstalled as part of the PD9 3022 enhancement. This caused some kind of conflict within my Realtek audio software. Now why a REALTEK conflict would prevent video clips from playing within the PD9 Library, yet allow them to play fine on the PD9 Timeline is way over my head. I'm just thankful to have this issue behind me. You gotta love these forums all over the net where people help each other! It's doubtful that I would have fixed this problem without restoring my computer to last week...or earlier.
Thanks for taking the time to reply and Happy Holidays to you Robert!

I'm having this problem since upgrading to the latest 2330-build of Power Director 9 Ultra. Did a search on the forum, but couldn't find any clues to resolving this.
1. The little Clip Playback window in the "Open a File" dialogue box will only play the first 1 or 2 seconds of the selected clip and then freeze. It will not play further, even if I wait a couple of minutes and hit the Play button again.
2. After importing that (or any) clip into the PD9 library, the clip will only play for 1 to 4 seconds and then freeze. The timer counter keeps going, but the video is frozen. If I press the Play button twice (pause-play), the clip will play another few seconds and stop again. I can drag the time slider to anyplace in the clip, hit the play button and the clip will play for a couple of seconds and then freeze.
3. When I add the clip to the Timeline, the clip plays fine from there, with no problems from start to finish.
I didn't have this issue in PD8 or in PD9, prior to the 2330 patch/build. The clips I import into PD8 and PD9 are all .mts files, shot with my Canon HG10 HDD video camera. Has anyone else experienced this issue with video files in ANY version of Power Director, before they're added to the timeline? It's really weird.

The new Beta version of Catalyst Control Center was really great for me because for the first time, the window now fully fits my 22 inch Samsung monitor screen. The "GPU Scaling" feature in the new CCC did the trick. Prior to this, there was a 2 inch black void around all four corners of the desktop. Thankyou "OnTheWeb" for alerting us to the new Beta CCC's availability. Cheers!

Thanks Jamie. I don't have an indigenous memory issue.. was just wondering how to force PD9 to tax the computer a little harder to get jobs done faster. I only asked about the missing ATI Overdrive module in Catalyst Control Center because this is a CCC related thread. Wouldn't want to start an entirely new thread for minor questions like these.
-Allen

Looks like Catalyst is now missing the ATI Overdrive feature in its menu. I downloaded a similar product from AMD this week called "Fusion", but it was RAM-hungry, even when the PC was idle. Would love to have the ATI Overdrive integrated back into in Catalyst Control Center once again.
When I click on the "release notes" link at the download page, I get a "Oops, page has been moved" error page.
http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/radeon_win7-64.aspx#1
BTW...anyone know how to force PD9 to use more CPU/RAM during the HiDef to DVD-HD conversion and burning process? I have a 64-bit Windows 7 computer, but PD9 uses the same amount of resources as PD8. In other words, I don't see any speed improvement. Any special settings, or tweaks recommended? T.I.A.

This thread talked about an update coming...
http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/14521.page
But you're the guy who has alerted us to the update's official arrival. I'm downloading it now. Thank-you!

P.S. Followup: The 2330 Build installed without a hitch. But be advised that (for me) there was a 30 second lull between when the install-a-shield wizard disappeared and when the actual Cyberlink installation dialogue screen showed up, asking me to agree to the licensing terms, etc., before actual installation began. Don't make the mistake of thinking that the installation is finished if this lull in viewable activity occurs with you as well. This must be a pretty major update, because it did a lot of erasing, copying and installing of files.
NOTE: Hover your mouse over the blue "I" at this page to see a list of the updates/fixes in build 2330 for PD9:

Qucktime was installed as part of the overall PD9 package. Since PD9 is new, I wouldn't think that it contains an outdated Quicktime. But, ya never know. If PD9 uses some of the Quicktime Codecs, perhaps it's best for me to uninstall QT that installed with PD9 and download/install the latest version directly from the QT website. Will give that a try right now and report back. Thanks for the insight Robert2 S.
-Allen
EDIT TO ADD: I uninstalled QuickTime and now PD9 not only starts without any errors, but it produces ACVHD and DVD-HQ clips without any problem thus far. Good news, because I don't like APPLE products. Windows7 seems to contain all the CODECS needed for my modest projects.

Greetings All,
The upgrade from PD8 to PD9 seemed to have went well, but every time I open PD9, an error message immediately appears which says, "Cyberlink CLQTKernelClient32" has stopped working". I must then click a link to terminate program that generated this error. Happens every time I start PD9, but PD9 is not the program that closes after I click on that link. It's some program that opens in the background when PD9 starts up, which I'm assuming is, because Quicktime gave me some kind of error during the installation/upgrade, but appeared to have installed anyway.
QUESTION: Is Quicktime necessary for PD9 to function properly? If not, I will uninstall it. I don't recall Quicktime being a part of the PD8 installation package. Thanks in advance for any guidance.

p.s. Did searches in the forum and the internet for clues, but no references to this error at all..anyplace.

I just purchased Power Director 9 Ultra upgrade for $69.95 and much to my surprise found that $4.73 in sales tax was added to the final total AFTER I clicked on "SUBMIT the order and landed at the DOWNLOAD/INSTRUCTION page.
My Illinois purchase/shipping address is NOT listed as being one of the states where Cyberlink collects sales taxes, per this page:
https://store.cyberlink.com/DRHM/store?Action=DisplayOrderInformationPage&SiteID=clinkus&Locale=en_US&Env=BASE#q5
"Do I have to pay sales tax?
We charge applicable sales tax for orders shipped to California, Minnesota and Washington. Sales tax is automatically computed on both product(s) and shipping costs.
Pursuant to the Digital VAT Directive, as of 1st July 2003, European customers will be charged VAT (Tax) on all downloadable digital products and services, including software at 15%.
We will gladly credit sales tax for government institutions. Just fax us a copy of your tax-exemption form with an address matching your order's billing or shipping address at: 952-253-8760. Please include a copy of your receipt or your order number."
IMO, one of three things is the culprit here:
1. Cyberlink has not updated their list of taxable U.S. states on the FAQ.
2. Cyberlink's billing software made an error. (What I'm hoping)
3. Cyberlink is lining their pockets.
I'll get to the bottom of this via Cyberlink support, but wanted to report the unexpected taxation here in the forum as a "heads up" to soon-to-be Cyberlink product purchasers. They need to ensure that there's a few extra dollars on their Card or in their PayPal account just in case an unexpected tax is applied to their purchase, as it was to mine.

Thanks for the feedback gents. I am preparing to upgrade from PD8 to PD9 in a few minutes. From a marketing/sales standpoint, it would be better for Cyberlink if they added a more comprehensive list of the video cards that can utilize the enhanced encoding features.
Capt'n Kevin, I understand that my computer didn't come with a top of the line video card. I was going to upgrade my ATI 4350 to the 5770 that you have, but the power supply needed upgrading too. I took the cover off my HP Pavillion e9220y to see what was involved with changing the power supply and seeing all the cords/connections made me chicken out. So I'll have to do the best I can with the 4350 for a couple more years.
Wish me luck!

Dear PD9 Experts,
This page http://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdirector/requirements_en_US.html lists the below graphics cards as being "supported" by PD9...
Supported GPGPU graphics cards:
NVIDIA:
•GeForce 8500GT and above
•GeForce 9800GT and above
•GeForce GT/GTS/GTX 200 series
•GeForce GT/GTS/GTX 400 series
•GeForce GT/GTS/GTX 500 series
AMD:
•Radeon HD2600 and above
•Radeon HD4600 series
•Radeon HD5600 series
•Radeon HD6800 series
Note: AMD Avivo™ Package V10.10 or above is required to enable Hardware Accelerated Video Encoding on AMD Graphics card.
Is this to be taken literally? In other words, are we to assume that if our specific graphics card is not on the above list, PD9 will not support Hardware Accelerated Video Encoding? I have an AMD Radeon HD4350.

Thanks for relating your experience and for the reassurance Robert. I'm confident that PD9 will work well, if the upgrade goes properly. I just want to make sure that all proper precautions are taken and procedures followed accurately during the upgrade process. You and the other contributors to this thread are appreciated. Cheers!

I read all the time in this forum about Titles, Tracks, PIP's, etc.., but I've never tried to learn how to use any of them. In fact, I probably waste 99% of the Power Director's potential. While I have hundreds of hours of HD Family videos stored on Terabytes of Hard Drives, I only use Power Director to transfer Basketball Game Footage of my 11 and 14 year old's games to DVD for the coachs to use in training the players. I attempt to adjust hue, brightness, contrast, but that's about all. My goal with upgrading from PD8 to PD9 is to make this simple process FASTER.
When I'm burning the HQ-DVD's, the 4 CPU Cores run at 65 to 70 percent, but the RAM useage never goes over 22%. At computer idle, it rests at 16% on average. From what I'm reading in the forum, PD9 will utilize more RAM and CPU to get the job done FASTER, which is exactly what the doctor ordered.
I'll look forward to reporting the results in a few days...after the next basketball game.
Fred, based on your advice, I will NOT use any registry cleaner during the upgrade process. But CCleaner does a good job of removing obsolete entries, temp files, etc.. in Windows 7. Never had a problem.

FredB, thanks a million for the tips and advice. I shall remove PD8, PhotoNow and SmartSound re-boot and run CCleaner to ensure that all traces are gone. Hopefully Cyberlink will add instructions on the Upgrade page to help and to ease concerns of fellow upgraders. A "Here's How You Upgrade" instruction-set would would-be upgraders enter the process more confidently and ease the burden on technical support, on the back end. Thanks again Fred!
Kevin, one of the things that frustrated me when I first bought PD8 in Jan 2010 was that the Preview of clips in the TimeLine was horrible. Forum members explained how to view them in HQ, but they were still poor. Now, from what you and Cyberlink are saying, I can choose to view them at even higher quality...with is great. I don't have a cutting edge system, but before Jan2010, I'd never used any sort of software to make a Video DVD. So any help I get with understanding the nuances of this art is appreciated greatly. Thank-you.

Dear PD9 Users,
For the past 11 months, I've enjoyed using PD8 for burning HQ-DVD's from family movies shot with my Canon HG10. I tried to do some basic editing like adjusting the color hue, and brightness, but then it takes almost 3 hours to burn 5.5 gigabytes to a Dual Layer 8.5 gigabyte DVD. Without editing it still takes over 1 hour for this task.
From what I'm reading on the Cyberlink website and in this wonderful forum, Power Director 9 will not only let me see the preview in High Quality, but will burn the DVD's faster on my 64-bit / Windows 7 / 8gb RAM / ATI HD-4350 machine. Now I'm drooling!
But I wish to draw upon your experiences, so as to not screw up anything when upgrading from PD8 to PD9. What are the proper steps for upgrading after the package is downloaded? Can I keep PD8 and test PD9 for a few days to see if it really speeds things up as advertised? Will I need to have some kind of code available to prove that I'm an upgrader, or does Cyberlink scan my system to confirm that PD8 is installed? Any advice to make this upgrade go smoother is appreciated. Thank-you in advance!

I wanted to know if Cyberlink had those past revision descriptions stored in an online LOG or READ-ME file somewhere within the Cyberlink website
Probably the most requested 'feature' that does not exist is a real change log. The updates include a high-level, three or four item list of major fixes but do not define what certainly must be dozens or more minor fixes that are surely included in each patch.
Four words on a real change log: Not going to happen.
You sound pretty sure of yourself with that final statement, OnTheWeb. It's disappointing, but since I don't use the program (P.D.)for more than burning family clips to DVD's, a Change Log is not a critical need. Thanks for the feedback.

Hello Robert and Thank-you for taking the time to share your expertise.
Let me get this straight.. you're saying that when we have the Auto-Update function turned on in the Preferences section, the program will alert us know when a totally new version is available for purchase.. i.e., PD9 / PD10 / PD11, etc.. correct?
Come to think of it, since the program hasn't auto-updated, or even notified me that patches are available, you're probably right. The only notifications that would arrive are of a totally new version being available for purchase.
Each time an update is made, there is usually some type of program enhancement, or fix integrated into the update. What I was looking for is a verbal description of what was included in each update/patch. For instance, when you go to this page http://www.cyberlink.com/downloads/support/powerdirector/patches_en_US.html and hover your mouse over the blue "i" symbol, there's a pop-up dialogue which verbally explains explains the program changes effective with the current 3302 update/patch.
I wanted to know if Cyberlink had those past revision descriptions stored in an online LOG or READ-ME file somewhere within the Cyberlink website. But, based on the lack of response to my inquiry, and past inquiries from other PD-8 customers in this forum over past years, I have to assume that such a log is not kept..at least not for public consumption. It's not a big deal...just a curiosity, because I was having some troubles with the SVRT setting and my video card and I wanted to know if perhaps one of the patches fixed it. I'll just burn a DVD and see.
Thanks again for your feedback Robert. I hope it's not too cold and snowy in your part of Australia.
Cheers!

Hello All,
I downloaded/purchased PD8 in January 2010. It's now July and I see that the program version is up to
PD8, build 3022. Looks like there have been several updates since the beginning this year? I suppose
that's a good thing, but I'd like to know what the revision history looks like for PD8. Have searched
the forum but can't find where anyone has received an answer. Has there been any progress in finding
a place on the Cyberlink website where revision histories are posted?
Also, I have PowerDirecter 8 set to automatically check for program updates, but it was stuck in the same
version as when I purchased it.. I believe it was Build 2704. Is there some sort of setting I need to tweak
in Windows7 firewall to allow PD8 to auto update? Thanks for any feedback.

Stephen your video has an excellent level of resolution, color saturation
and nice clear sound. I wear hearing aids, so a good clear voice is
very important. My goal is to be able to produce a studio-quality video
like yours in the near future. Two thumbs up and ***** stars Stephen!
