I've managed to get myself totally confused on this one

One of the built in text effects, fades away to the video after overlaying it for about 2 seconds

I cannot work out how to get the text overlay to stay onscreen over the top of the video for about 8 seconds

Help please !!

regards
Andrew

1. select the effect
2. move the mouse cursor over the right edge of the effect. The cursor changes to a left/right arrow cursor.
3. click and drag the edge of the effect to the desired length.

Hi Hatti

Thanks for the quick response - yes that was what I had been trying

It doesn't matter how far to the right I drag the effect edge of box (when hovering the cursor over it, for example it shows 10 seconds as the length of the clip)

Yet when I play the clip regardless of that the text is gone after the same amount of time

best wishes
Andrew

What an idiot I am......I had dragged the original effect onto the screen and not noticed it as NOT being in one of the Text timeline lines !!!

Redragged it to there and it now works

Thats a relief

That is really annoying, but I was just guessing. We need more information. First of all, what "text effect" did you use? PowerDirector does not know "text effects". If I go to the "effects room(F4)", there is no text effect. So I guessed that you used the "title room (F7)". But I have far over 100 texts. Which one?
Or do you have a title and try to use an effect on that?
What was the steps that you did? And did not work? Maybe a sreenshot of your timeline would help.
If the error is not obvious, we need information to readjust that error to help you.
