you are quite welcome. I'm glad you've worked things out to your liking. As I said I have used Cyberlink products for over 2 yrs now & though they do have their gliches at times having used other video editing programs, I swear by Cyberlink. And if you do have problems this forum is the best around. People are not only on the ball as far as answering questions but are very kind when doing so....So enjoy your video making..God Bless, Karen
Hi friend, 1st of no need to purchase a handbook for any PD. If you go to the store & hit the tab downloads you will find manuals in PDF format...these are a great assist to the director itself. As to the program (PD9) stopping in the middle of rendering, I too was having that problem when I got the PD9. I had used PD7 for a couple of years with no hangups so this was driving me nuts. I finally un-installed the program & reinstalled. I am now having no problems with that issue....Hope this is a help to you...God Bless, Karen
Yes I too am having this same issue..I have wasted so many disks trying to get a size correct to be viewed in my DVD player on TV. Funny thing I do not understand, I also own a PD7 which I no longer have installed on my PC but used it for a number of years with no such problems. Seems Cyberlink could actually use whatever burning plan they had in the PD7 & possibly the PD8 as well to update the PD9 with a patch or something to fix this issue. I also have used freeware to get my finished product & am very unhappy not being able to use the cyberlink menus etc....But that too seems to be a problem "the menus". In PD9 recreating an exsisting menu is almost impossible & the setting for your movie to return to menu after each chapter does not work either...All of which I loved in my PD7...Why I wonder in order to have a better editing format have we had to give up the quality in the creating step.....Thanks to all you older users who understand or have more knowledge on these things then I, Karen
Hi Jamie, I recently did my 1st voice over while making a kiddie video for my 2 yr old grandson. I found exactly what you found. I also made sure to record when the home heater was off & silence in the home....But I did find some solution (still not perfect but much better). I took the audio clip into the wave editor & played with it there using the noise reduction & I believe the fader. The fade will make your audio much quieter then you may want but once you get it without the static you can take it back to PD9 & raise the sound once again. Got mine with a little work to where I was happy in the end.....Hope this helps, Karen :
Thank you both James & Bubba. James, yes that's exactly what the original files were that my son sent. If I need to download that program I will do so. I would rather not add even more programs to my PC if not required though. Bubba, yes my screen looked exactly the same & it was set for 16x9 only difference is that I set it for 5 channel surround....What Codec might I be missing & if so is there a way to find out? Thank you both again so much, I am grateful for your help♥
I did 1st burn this to DVD as suggested above & DVD format did not play in my player. I have tried to get to the bottom of my problem by reading my player manual but the fact is I have been making these for years & playing them in my player (the same one) only difference is I have never before used video as I did this time. So I figure the problem has to be in the video in some thing I'm doing, not doing, or the video clips format or files I am using....I am so frustrated if this movie were not for my 2 year old grandson I would can it & forget working with video altogether, but it is & therefore this grandma must solve the problem....Please is there anyone out there who can help me, I'm truly lost....I will be eternally grateful♥
1st of all thanks to all for the great amount of assistance I am getting, you are all amazing. BUT, I still am not being able to get a disk burned out of this silly program. My mind is boggled but I have come down to the problem has to be the video as I have never worked with video before only still photos. I have considered a few things that may help in my getting some guidance. Number 1 when my son sent me the original video it was a VTS file (raw) with numerous files for both video & audio. The film had been captured form a Canon DVD camera. I wanted to view it at that time on my PC so I converted it into a Mpeg4. This is the file I pulled into my director before making clips of it & adding other stills & music. Could this be a problem??? When I rt click on the video clip in my edit in file it says Mpeg4 1280x720..Video type is H.264 AVC 1280x720..16:9. I have taken the first advice now & in create burned it in DVD, it did not work on my player. Then thinking of the video being AVC I tried & burned it in AVCHD, this did not work either. Since I had already produced my video in .AVI I just went to create & imported it in. My preference was to use no menu since I have a title page & only am burning the one video. The .AVI was originally 7.28 GB & yet in both DVD & AVCHD the size got much smaller to render out in the end but as I say neither worked. I am giving as much info as I can think of in order that it might help you to help me. PC is a quadcore & is running windows7 64bit, has a upgraded video card & 8G Ram if that helps at all....Thank you all again & God Bless You♥
Thank you so much Robert....I wonder just where my head was in this create. For some reason I had in my mind that if I just had one chapter I could produce & need not create. I had a title on the AVI so went ahead & put to disk! Oh well live & learn.......Many Thanks again♥
Thank you so much for your speedy reply Bubba. Wish I had have come to the forum before i wasted the last 5 disks LOL....If I could ask just one more question..Does it matter what file I have produced the originally in or should I take it direct from edit to create? ie: can I pull an AVI into the create? Thank again much♥
I have made a movie using video from a Canon DVD camcorder that my son sent me along with some still photos & wav music attached. I have recently purchased the Director 9 but had the Director 7 in the past. I have always used the AVI file to produce my movies using just stills photos never video & it always played fine on my DVD player. Using Director 9 along with this video I have produced an AVI, a Mpeg 2 & Mpeg4 & none will play in my DVD player. When I rt. click on the video file in the program under vidoe type it says H.264 AVC, is there something I am doing wrong in producing this movie that keeps it from playing in my player?
Many thanks for all the help I can get♥
Don, oh my gosh, you got me there LOL . Don't know how I ever ended up in the Power DVD forum to begin with. AND here I thought I might be able to help someone. I've personally gotten so much help from others in the forum, I'm sure you will find someone helpful soon. I'm so sorry, must have been late. Gotta Have some excuse!!!!
Good Luck Karen
Don, if you are working with Power DVD & want help, you ought to go into the Power DVD forum. The folks in there may be able to help you better. Right now you're in the PowerDirector 6 & up forum. Go back to the 1st page of the forum
http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/forums/list/ENU.page
and the Power DVD forum is right above this one. Good Luck.....Karen
I am working with digital photos in PD7. Since I have a 27" standard screen T.V, up until now I have made my movies in 640x480 & it's been a perfect fit for MY T.V. I am in the process of doing some Wedding Photos for a couple who have a wide screen T.V. Since I do have a wide screen monitor on my computer I figured I could make a 16:9 wide screen & preview it that way. But I have found that no matter how large I render a movie clip all the way to 1920x1080 (the largest avalible), it still does not fit the width of my monitor. Is there a way to fit the full width of a wide screen? It seems to me the only difference is that you get the black bands across the top & bottom but the movie itself doesn't change. Am I missing something? Thanks Karen
Thanks to both Dafydd & Robert. Dafydd, I did look over, then copy & save all the info off the link you gave me. I intend to complete the project I'm currently working on & then appears I may need to uninstall & reinstall. It is making it through what I'm working on presently by having the save project set at 1min. That way most often I don't lose anything.
Thanks again Karen
Is there any way to get an ISO or a disk image from PD7? I also have the complete DVD suite & it's supose to make them but I'm not sure that it does. At least it tells me I need an ISO file which is not the files that are saved when you complete a movie & save DVD file. Thanks if you can help.......Karen
Does anyone know why my PD7 has started crashing when in the middle of rendering a clip & tell me I don't have Dolby Digital capabilities? I have been using the dolby before this with no problem. My "Read Me" & The Director PDF say the PD7 has Dolby Digital 5.1. This is confusing and very frustrating...............Karen
Steve & Don, that's strange that you're having that issue. I've been trying to add sub-titles to a movie I just made & it took me all kinds of figuring out to even get a sub-title menu to appear. Then I found it's just an on,off deal anyway. No way to use it to get into your sub-titles seperate from the whole.
Try, when you go into create, take your menu, what ever one you chose to use into modify. Make your adjustments on just two of the pages the main menu & the chapter page. Don't even open the sub-title page, then save with changes you've made. I believe that was why I wasn't getting one, I was not going into it & editing it in the modify menu place..............Hope that helps. I have PD7, and I haven't been using it long either, but with the help I've gotten from this forum I'm beginning to really like the program. Just take some time for sure..........Good Luck Karen
Hi Jeff, thanks for the quick reply. My question is, when I but in the "name" of my sub-title, on each picture that "name" is running across the bottom each picture within that sub "chapter". Can I avoid that? I have already written on my pictures, names & such, and the name of the sub-title runs across what I have on there. My only reason for putting sub-titles into my project is so that they can be entered into seperately from the completed movie if so choosen. Thanks Again Karen
Hi, is there anyone out there who knows if there is a way to add sub-titles,yet eliminate the actual title from showing up on every frame of the sub-titled "movie"? Thanks Karen
Hello Robert, I GOT IT!!!!!!! I made a silly mistake & it took me all week-end to figure out exactly what it was. You know in the create a disk portion of the program, in the slot below where you put your music for the menu, there is a slot that is for 1st played video? I put the 1st chapter in that slot. Therefore instead of 1st getting the menu,I got the 1st chapter of my movie. SILLY!!! Anyway, I did get it & turned out a perfect test tonight. I'm sooooooooo Happy!!! I can't thank you enough for all your in out with this. As I had said, I had been dealing with support for a long time 7 getting no where fast,I was so frustrated I was about ready to throw this Cyberlink Program out the window. I now am in love with it (Minus the fact that the chapters don't work independently). That issue i will go to the suggustion link you gave me & add my 2 cents for what it's worth. I'd like to add, something i have found a pure joy with PD7 is the ability it gives you with music,in raising & lowering the pitch etc. That's something I've always had a problem with with other programs I've used in the past. So thanks for all the help & maybe I can be a help to someone else one of these days........Karen
