Serious burning issues with PD9

Hello to all PD9 co-users,

I post this message because the PD9 on my computer shows serious issues by computing the final video size and burning DVDs. Up to now, even though PD9 is very nice from the video editing aspect, its burning engine is a disaster. But let me explain and introduce some numbers...

First of all, the PC I run the PD9 on has the following...
1. Intel Q9550 quadcore cpu
2. 8GB DDR2
3. Asus GTX-285 graphics card (Nvidia chipset/1GB GPU RAM).
4. C: size is 292 GB with 93GB free space.
5. Separate 6,83GB partition dedicated to virtual memory (752MB of free space on that)
6. Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

My drives are:
1. LG GGC-H20L
2. LG BH10LS30 (BluRay burner)
3. LG GH-22LP20

My camcorder is the Full-HD Panasonic HDC-SD300.

And now about the problem...
After I edit a video (lowest resolution is 1440*1080) and reach the point I want to burn it on a disc, the PD9 calculates always a rather too big video size. For example, from 4 .MTS clips of total 9,53GB (16:9), after the editing and throwing away of enough video time, PD9 calculates much over 50GB on a Blu Ray disc with mpeg-2 and 1440*1080 resolution, or approx. 36GB with H.264 and same resolution.
When I select a simple 4.7 DVD and smart fit, the result is simply unwatchable. But it is very curious that PD9 with SmartFit selected shows a particular size, and the result is much smaller than the originally displayed. After I tried burning the same video on a Dual Layer DVD (8,5GB), SmartFit calculated about 7800MB of needed space on the disc, but when I burned the disc it was only 2,7GB and the resolution was a disaster. Additionally, even though the video clips are 16:9 and I selected 16:9 under the ''Create Disc'' tab, the final image was scaled to 4:3 showing everything thinner as it should be.

I have contacted the Support and even though they are very helpful, up until now, after updating every driver on my PC and spending many hours and empty discs, the result is exactly the same. I would really really appreciate if someone can help with this, because I like the PD9 editing enviroment and it is very sad that its disc-burning engine ruins everything.

Do you have the same problem when editing larger files? Do you have an idea why this happens?

Thank you for your time and I will appreciate your help.

I can't explain why it happens, but it is a common issue. If I need to burn a full disc, I set PD to 8.5GB disc, then use a 3rd party software to reduce the size, if needed. That way I can fill the disc with no unnecessary reduction in quality. __________________________________

Give ImgBurn a try (free software) - it's much more reliable. You need only burn to a folder with PD9 then use ImgBurn to do the actual DVD burning. Win 10, i7

Hello

and thank you for your answers. When this is known, shouldn't Cyberlink go right into it and find a solution and apply it through an update? After all, in Cyberlink's advertisements, there is nowhere to read that the user should use 3rd party software to finish the job, or that the actual producing time is thus much more than other video editing software needs. (Or they should consider bying the rights to use the rendering/burning engine of MAGIX. The Video Deluxe software of MAGIX is not as nice and rich as the Powerdirector 9 as far as the editing part is considered, but it has an excellent rendering/burning engine.)

Fact is, I edit videos very often and a process that needs twice the time or more and more steps to create a DVD is not so desirable. I mean, when the encoding alone needs 5 hours and after that you still have much work to do, then this cancels the very purpose of an 64 bit editing software, that is to save time and energy. Additionally, saving the video in an mpeg file on the hard disk means I cant use the DVD menus of PD9. Would you be so kind to explain how exactly I should proceed with these both ways to burn a decent DVD? Because I haven't found an option that will burn a DVD image on the HDD (TS Files and including DVD Menu)

Nevertheless, I dont think I will buy again a product of Cyberlink.

Thank you again for your answers.

Yes I too am having this same issue..I have wasted so many disks trying to get a size correct to be viewed in my DVD player on TV. Funny thing I do not understand, I also own a PD7 which I no longer have installed on my PC but used it for a number of years with no such problems. Seems Cyberlink could actually use whatever burning plan they had in the PD7 & possibly the PD8 as well to update the PD9 with a patch or something to fix this issue. I also have used freeware to get my finished product & am very unhappy not being able to use the cyberlink menus etc....But that too seems to be a problem "the menus". In PD9 recreating an exsisting menu is almost impossible & the setting for your movie to return to menu after each chapter does not work either...All of which I loved in my PD7...Why I wonder in order to have a better editing format have we had to give up the quality in the creating step.....Thanks to all you older users who understand or have more knowledge on these things then I, Karen karen

Wait a sec.. what about SmartFit? that does a pretty good job.. I've crammed like 11.5 gigs on a 8.5 gig DVD disc using that.

Hi again,

well SmartFit is actually part of the problem. SmartFit shows a size of 7780MB on a DL DVD and the result is a 2900MB DVD. Yesterday I edited and burned a video that in High Quality DVD would be about 9GB. The original video is in .vob format and has a size of 3.9GB. After cutting of about 13 minutes of video and enhancing lighting etc, SmartFit showed an estimated output of 4400MB on a normal 4700MB DVD. The result was again different. Final size is 2.3GB. I really dont understand what is wrong with this program Its an otherwise very nice video editing suite, literally ruined from these problems.

Wish a beautiful weekend to all
