I'm new to PD and I know PD can be used in a ton of different ways, but how do people generally approach a new video project? Obviously, step 1 is to have some video. But how do you decide on a theme for a project and choose transitions, effects, particle effects, titles & sub-titles, PIP usage, sound, etc. to match that theme? And integrate everything together properly to provide good video projects? I realize that all of this will become more clear as I gain experience with PD but at this point it really seems quite daunting. Is anyone willing to share their thoughts on how best to approach this?

If you're new to editing (as well as PD), it's a good idea to begin with a simple project like:
- a day at the zoo, beach, park, historical site, car races, city, caves, river, harbour... just a "record" of the day/event
- a theme like boats, faces, sunlight & shadows, flowers, sky... a collection of clips & images about something you're interested in

A video that "tells a story" takes a lot more planning, creativity & forward thinking.
