Hi, Everyone!

I think this subject has just about run its course. Not much else I can say on the subject without repeating myself.

Cheers!

Neil.
Quote: PS PD 14 still in my opinion is a great (and the best) video editor - an improvement to the audio mixer would make it the best overall product. I would even pay full price in the next version if it had this improvement.

Hi, RDOIII!

I would not go as far as saying PD14 is "the best" video editor just yet, at least not while this issue with audio adjustment still hangs around like a fart in an elevator. The problem with the audio being set at a given level above or below 0.0db at the beginning of a video, overall, or at the beginning of a clip within the video(whilst still editing), then creeping back up or down to 0.0db has crept into Power Director at a point I know not where. Was it in Version 14 or was it manifest in earlier versions(as far back as Version 9)? The method of audio level adjustment I described which was in Version 8, should be implemented in Version 15.

Cheers!

Neil
Annotating videos? That's one on me! Didn't think it could be done, adding chapters, that is.
Quote: I want to thank you both for helping me in this case!!! Thank you very much!!!

All the best,
Rune

Cheers!

Glad to be of help, I'm sure Tony'll feel likewise!

Neil.
Quote: Yes, I know Neil. I know I can find it by going to the right folder. I just asked before I bothered to do it myself!

Hi, Rune!

This is a second(and hopefully final) attempt at answering this post as the first effort went ker-blooey(server error). I'm glad that I, with a great deal of help from Tony(Ynotfish), have been able to help in proving your idea of emailing templates workable. However, I feel this thread has now run its course, I don't think I can add anything to what I, or Tony,, or anyone else, for that matter, had already said. All that's left for me is to wish you well in your endeavours.

Cheers!

Neil.
Quote: The reason I mentioned zipping was because I didn't know the size of the files. If they were big, it might have been a good idea to zip them.

I have to check out the files you have mentioned, and see if I'm able to find them and send them to a friend of mine.

Hi, Rune!

It's quite easy to find out how big a file is, whatever the file type might be. In this case it's templates for particle objects or transitions(or anything else you may wish to share). When you've located what you want to send via email, if you need to send a folder-full of content, right-click on the folder and go to "properties". The total file size of all the components together will be shown and you can gauge for yourself whether you need to zip them or not. Probably safest to zip if you need to, if the file size exceeds 2.5 megabytes, but it really depends on how large a file you can send via your email service. This can vary markedly between different providers of such services. It can't hurt to check that out before you find out how large the file size is on the template you want to send. The total file size for each transition I sent was well inside the range for what I could send. I'll toy around with zipping at some future stage, to get the hang of the process, so-to-speak, then I'll reserve the process for anything where the file size is too large to send any other way.

Cheers!

Quote: Say I bring into a project 100 clips from my video files and I only use about 40 of them in my project. Is there a way that I can select all the unchecked clips that were not put onto the time line and remove them from the library in one action.
Yes, there is... In the media library, right click on a blank area.... Remove all unused content

Hmmmm...., that's interesting! I'll remember that for my own projects next time I have a surplus of clips. Cheers!
Quote: Neil, I don't recall if you've ever mentioned which version of Windows you're running but Windows 7 certainly has a zip facility built-in and I would guess 8, 8.1 and 10 would have also.

Hi, Mike,

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium. A prevous computer I had ran Windows XP. To be honest, I never really had much need for zipping files for sending via email. As it was, the two transitions I sent Tony(Ynotfish) came in well inside my maximum limit for attachments, so I was quite safe in sending them unzipped. At some time in the future I'll play around with this zipping feature to see how much it can condense files, I may then start using it for larger files.

Cheers!

Neil.
Quote: Hi, Neil!

Did you notice how big the file(s) was/were?
What if you .zip it?

Rune.

Hi, Rune, The transitions I sent to Tony were 1.59mb each, well inside the range of files I could attach and send via my internet service provider's email facility, I didn't "zip" either of them because I don't think I have that facility on my computer. In any case, once I sent the XML components(which were somehow missed in the initial send), Tony was able to use them to successfully install the transitions I created. Tony sent me a transition effect in return which successfully installed itself straight off, so your idea has been shown to work okay. By the way, Tony, what did you think of those diagonal wipes? They're a nice, simple effect, best suited to segues between two distinctly different scenes, among other uses.

Cheers!

Neil.
I've experimented a little with "Motion Tracking", liked the idea of being able to attach identifying tags that follow people or things around on the screen, but seeing the image invert(flip upside down)? Nope, Gotta say I haven't seen that one!

Cheers!

Neil.
Hi, Tony!

Though it was a "roundabout" method, between us we proved Rune123's idea could work. Sorry the XML file components didn't get sent with the initial emails. I did the usual Ctrl+A to gett ALL contents of the folders for each transition, somehow the XMLs were missed(strange, that), but in any case, eventually it worked. All's well that ends well, ay!(shades of Mythbusters, here, methinks)

Cheers!

Quote: Look at the windows/properties/detail for those clips. More than likely they are not exactly 16:9. In PD13 post a screenshot of the clip properties. A few pixels off will make the differences.

Is there a possibility the aspect ratio could be 14:9? This aspect ratio gives thinner black vertical bars either side of the image on screen. 14:9 is quite a rare aspect ratio and I've only come across it once or twice.

Cheers!

Neil
Hi, Ronk!

Honestly, I don't think it's possible. I may not upload to YouTube but I have viewed quite a lot of clips on subjects that interest me(railways, ghosts) and I've not yet seen any that can be bumped along, chapter by chapter. I'm afraid chapters are for discs played on home DVD or Blu-Ray players or computer disc drives(DVD or blu-Ray).

Cheers!

Neil.
Hi, Tony,

I've just now sent you the missing XML files for the transitions. Hopefully this should make them work One is for Transition 000 the other is for Transition 001. The 000 Trans is Top-Left to Bottom-Right, 001 is the opposite direction. Let me know by Email or PM, okay?

Cheers!

Neil.
Hi, Rune123!

As per Tony's(ynotfish) request, I sent him two transition effects which I created, simple diagonal wipes. I await Tony's reply either by email or PM through Director Zone to see if the experiment was successful. As the old saying goes: " WATCH THIS SPACE!"

Cheers!

Hi, Shadowman(Robert) and CS.

A recent camera purchase, a Canon Legria HF-R506 model, shoots in either AVCHD or MP4(user's choice), I've set mine to shoot in MP4. Yes, importation of the clips to PD(8 or 14) creates shadow files, but I've found them not to hamper my editing, even when the shadow files haven't yet fully generated(turned green). Upon completion of editing, my final render is to MPEG2. I stick with this file type as it's "familiar territory". My last major shoot-and-edit project was a trip to a tramway museum in the outer-southern-Sydney suburb of Loftus in January of this year. That's not going to mean anything to our American friends but Australians on this site, particularly those in NSW, will know the place I'm talking about. In England, there's a similar tramway museum in Crich(probably much bigger than that at Loftus). I shot over an hour's worth of material and it came together quite nicely. Edited in PD14 from MP4 files and rendered to MPEG2. As I edited some of the shadow files had fully generated, some had not, but it didn't stop me or slow down my editing.. I still have the MP4 raw video should I want to create a newer edit at some future stage(I often do re-edits, always working on improving things, bits that made it in to an earlier edit that should've been left out, bits that missed out on the earlier edit that should've been included... you know the drill).

Cheers!

Neil.
Quote: Correct. I read that & understood it the first time. I also understood your suggestion the first time.

The only way to email a folder of assets is to zip it.

Going via DZ/CL Cloud provides the recipient with a zipped installer file in .dzt, .dzp etc format for easy installation. Shared file sites just make it simpler, without the restrictions of file size with email inboxes.

Why not give it a shot? Neil - could you please send me your favourite custom transition via email? I'll install it here & get back to you.

ynotfish@gmail.com

Cheers - Tony

Hi, Tony!

I have created a diagonal wipe transition in two versions, Top Left-Bottom Right and Top Right - Bottom Left. I've noted your email address, I'll give it a try and we'll see if it works. I don't expect the file size to be too big, Just a quick look showed me that each transition was 1.59mb, for safety sake I'll send each one separately. Keep watching your email.

Cheers!

Neil.
Quote: Personally, I find the easiest thing is to upload to DZ. If you don't want it to stay there, download the .dzt file (or whatever it is) and send your friend the installer... then delete it from your account.

Hi, Tony, Rune123's idea was to directly email a template(be it particle effect, transition, whatever) to a friend, bypassing Director Zone. As I said, it could be done provided a) the item can be readily found, b) was of a file size that was within the parameters of what could be sent as an attachment(your "zipping" idea could well help in that regard) and lastly C) if the recipient can successfully add the template to his/her own Power Director(assuming it's anywhere between versions 9 to 14).

Cheers!

Neil.
Hi, Rune123!

In order to try to answer your question, I went to my Cyberlink folder,(in my case, Cyberlink installed some content relating to PD8 and 14 in "Documents" though the programmes themselves were installed in "Programme Files"). The only thing you can do is "rummage around" wherever you see the name Cyberlink appearing on a folder(Programme Files or Documents).

With me, I opened the Cyberlink folder in Documents, then was greeted with folders for PD8 and PD14. In the PD14 I found two folders tucked away in the My Trans(short for Transitions) for the two diagonal fade transitions I created some time back. As I said, about the only thing you can do is "rummage around" in "Programme Files" where you've installed Power Director. You might be lucky to find the template you want to send, if you do, make a note of where you found it for future reference, then note the file size to see if it fits within the file size parameters tha G-mail allows for attachments. Hope this might've been helpful.

Cheers!

Quote: Neil.F.1955,
You have experience of using the 4k workaround as created by optodata and the specific avi files that are produced by the third party software? Looks to me you are generalizing and referring to your use of the avi container that isn't relevant to the issue on hand or helpful to situation here I'm afraid.

Shadowman has experienced 4k editing and uses the workaround. I defer to the knowledge that optodate has given and to the testers, one of whom was Shadowman.

It would be useful to know if you, Neil, had used the 4k avi generation workaround solution, have you?
Dafydd

Dafydd, My attempt to use AVI would've resulted in a video file swallowing up several gigabytes of hard-drive space if I'd actually triggered the "produce" function. Just seeing how much space would've been used, not to mention the (at a guess) excessive amount of time needed to render, was enough to put me off AVI for life, I'd be curious to know about this "workaround" from Shadowman because I'd like to, perhaps one day, store videos in the compressed AVI file type and have a 90-minute or even two-hour video occupy less than 1 gigabyte on my external hard-drive.

Sorry, the poster here seems to be anonymous, anyway, to the person concerned, your video shrunk by two seconds because you used a two-second transition in overlap, rather than cross. The out-of-sync situation is unusual as it shouldn't be happening if the audio is from the camera itself(native audio, in other words) and if the video is on the "master" video track(Tr.#1).

Just a tip though, even if you use a pseudonym, we on the forum like to know to whom we address our replies.

Cheers!
