Share templates via e-mail?

Hi,

I wonder if it's possible to share my templates with friends without going through DirectorZone or CyberLink Cloud?

Is it possible to share let's say a title template via e-mail etc.?

Hello, Rune123!

It might be practical to send the template as an attachment, but it depends on the size of the file as some internet service providers put a limit(for practical reasons) of so many megabytes(can vary from ISP to ISP). The only sure way to find out is to try it, If you succeed in sending such a template, you then need to find out from the person who received same, whether he/she was able to successfully add it to the templates in his/her Power Director. If PD9 onward, could be done but I somehow doubt it for PD8 or earlier.

Cheers!

Neil.

Thank you, Neil!

I have PD 13.

I use gmail, and google disk, so I think it works fine sending large files. It depends on how large the template files are. I don't know which files we talk about here.

Can you please tell me where to find them. I've searched through my whole harddrive. I've searched after the name I gave the template, but maybe I have to search for another name?

Are the several files that belongs together, or is it just one?

Hi, Rune123!

In order to try to answer your question, I went to my Cyberlink folder,(in my case, Cyberlink installed some content relating to PD8 and 14 in "Documents" though the programmes themselves were installed in "Programme Files"). The only thing you can do is "rummage around" wherever you see the name Cyberlink appearing on a folder(Programme Files or Documents).

With me, I opened the Cyberlink folder in Documents, then was greeted with folders for PD8 and PD14. In the PD14 I found two folders tucked away in the My Trans(short for Transitions) for the two diagonal fade transitions I created some time back. As I said, about the only thing you can do is "rummage around" in "Programme Files" where you've installed Power Director. You might be lucky to find the template you want to send, if you do, make a note of where you found it for future reference, then note the file size to see if it fits within the file size parameters tha G-mail allows for attachments. Hope this might've been helpful.

Cheers!

Hi Rune123 -

Neil's suggestion of digging through the folders is a good one. Custom "stuff" is stored in C:\Users\UserName\Documents\CyberLink\PowerDirector\13.0 in sub-folders - "My Particles" etc

You can just zip the folder you want to send & attach it to an email.

Personally, I find the easiest thing is to upload to DZ. If you don't want it to stay there, download the .dzt file (or whatever it is) and send your friend the installer... then delete it from your account.

Cheers - Tony

Hi, Tony, Rune123's idea was to directly email a template(be it particle effect, transition, whatever) to a friend, bypassing Director Zone. As I said, it could be done provided a) the item can be readily found, b) was of a file size that was within the parameters of what could be sent as an attachment(your "zipping" idea could well help in that regard) and lastly C) if the recipient can successfully add the template to his/her own Power Director(assuming it's anywhere between versions 9 to 14).

Cheers!

Correct. I read that & understood it the first time. I also understood your suggestion the first time.

The only way to email a folder of assets is to zip it.

Going via DZ/CL Cloud provides the recipient with a zipped installer file in .dzt, .dzp etc format for easy installation. Shared file sites just make it simpler, without the restrictions of file size with email inboxes.

Why not give it a shot? Neil - could you please send me your favourite custom transition via email? I'll install it here & get back to you.

Hi, Tony!

I have created a diagonal wipe transition in two versions, Top Left-Bottom Right and Top Right - Bottom Left. I've noted your email address, I'll give it a try and we'll see if it works. I don't expect the file size to be too big, Just a quick look showed me that each transition was 1.59mb, for safety sake I'll send each one separately. Keep watching your email.

Cheers!

Hi, Rune123!

As per Tony's(ynotfish) request, I sent him two transition effects which I created, simple diagonal wipes. I await Tony's reply either by email or PM through Director Zone to see if the experiment was successful. As the old saying goes: " WATCH THIS SPACE!"

Cheers!

Neil -

Thanks for the emails with the transition files attached separately.

Here's what I did:

  1. Put the files into a folder and named it Transition_xxx (to match the other custom transition sub-folders

  2. Dropped the folder into C:\Users\Tony\Documents\CyberLink\PowerDirector\14.0\MyTrans

  3. Opened PDR to find your transition - no go - not there - closed PDR

  4. Renamed the folder and dropped it in C:\Users\Public\CyberLink\Downloaded Transitions

  5. Opened PDR to find your transition - no go - not there - closed PDR

  6. Realised that there was a missing .xml file called TransitionTemplate.xml and gave up

It's probably true that not all PDR users know where all these files are supposed to be stored.

By comparison to my failed installation, try this:

(I uploaded a custom transition to DZ, then immediately downloaded & deleted it. That gave me a .dztr file).

Either download the attachment here and double click to install or do the same via the reply email I sent.

One method is virtually foolproof & the other is huigely prone to error.

Cheers - Tony

Hi, Tony,

I've just now sent you the missing XML files for the transitions. Hopefully this should make them work One is for Transition 000 the other is for Transition 001. The 000 Trans is Top-Left to Bottom-Right, 001 is the opposite direction. Let me know by Email or PM, okay?

Cheers!

Hello again,

I'm very happy that you are trying to figure this out!

Of course, I could do as you say, Neil.F.1955 and upload it to Director Zone, but it would be nice if it was possible to send it directly to friends via e-mail!

It is 1000x easier to just go with the DZ method, you guys are beating your heads on the wall for no good reason. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

You're probably right, BarryTheCrab, but it would still be nice if one could send a file in e-mail!

Why haven't CyberLink thought of this?
Why haven't they made an option in PDR to save templates as a .dztr file on our harddrives? If it can send such a file to a web page, then it should be able to save it on a harddrive as well.
It's probably because they want to 'force' us to go through Director Zone...
I don't know.

This is the second time I've had to format this response - timed out after submit! Grrrr

Hi Rune123 -

What you're suggesting has already been thought of, just not for PDR templates. In PhotoDirector & ColorDirector, any presets you've made can be exported as .pdadj or .cdadj (just as they are on DZ).

I seriously don't think CL is trying to force the use of DZ. They've simply provided a space for sharing templates, photos and videos.

As has been shown by Neil's "experiment", emailing templates requires (a) all assets to be included & (b) clear instructions for installation. The two attachments are examples - a .zip file for the template and a set of instructions.

Neil - yes - after I worked out which .xml file went with which template & put them in the right spot, your two transitions have installed correctly. As stated, that method is not without unnecessary complication! If CL made its PDR users install templates by renaming folders etc, there'd be people here screaming blue murder! Refer recent threads about activation!

Either way, in order for the recipient to be able to successfully use the template the sender has to do some prep work!

Cheers - Tony

Maybe you can export these presets in PD 14, but I can't find it in PD 13 which I have.

This is the only export options I find:

As far as I can see, It's only possible to upload it to Internet.

If I click Search in Library Folder, I only get a small window telling me the name of the template, and two buttons saying: Previous and Next. If I click any of those buttons, I get an error message saying: CyberLink PowerDirector cannot find a previous/next clip with this file name.

No - sorry - you misunderstood.

You can export presets from PhotoDirector & ColorDirector - NOT PowerDirector.

I was just saying that the concept had been inmtroduced in PhD & CDR, so it's already in CL's thinking.

Hi, Tony!

Though it was a "roundabout" method, between us we proved Rune123's idea could work. Sorry the XML file components didn't get sent with the initial emails. I did the usual Ctrl+A to gett ALL contents of the folders for each transition, somehow the XMLs were missed(strange, that), but in any case, eventually it worked. All's well that ends well, ay!(shades of Mythbusters, here, methinks)

Cheers!

Hi, Neil!

Did you notice how big the file(s) was/were?
What if you .zip it?

Rune.
