'garbage in garbage out'

Thanks for the reply! I'll try that as soon as I'm able and let you know how it works.
If you are editing together multiple short clips like I often do then it is completely counter-prodcutive to just produce a section every time to see how it looks. This is especially true when you have to perfectly time the frames in back-to-back clips. It slows down the process immensely. It's a feature included in every editor I have ever used and should funtion properly whether there are other workable methods or not.
So I am using a version of PD 14 from roughly 5 or 6 months ago since I typically wait to update till the bugs are ironed out. I kept the version I had because for the most part, it is doing what I need it to do. However, the one issue I continue to have is with the preview quality. It constantly lags and makes it nearly impossible for precise editing. Before you ask, yes I have tried lowering the preview quality which doesn't alleviate the issue, and I am running it on a machine which is more than adequate. My main question is if I should download the latest update? Has the preview rendering improved at all? Thanks.
Quote: I'm not aware of any updates that affect preview smoothness, and that issue has been a point of contention for users since waaay back many versions of PD and I have little doubt they are aware of it. You can always submit a ticket to Support. It's a nearly perfect program for me but a clear smooth preview would be the icing on the cake.

Thanks for the reply. I agree that the preview function has never been great, but it has definitely gotten worse for me since the last update. Overall, the update was great and fixed almost all the issues I was having, I just wish the preview would work better. It's a very important feature for people making heavy edits.
I know this has been touched upon in other threads, but I also wanted to know if there was a documented issue with the video/audio preview which will be fixed in the next patch? I downloaded the latest patch a couple weeks ago, but ever since then I find it nearly impossible to sync the audio and video perfectly in the timeline. For example, if I'm trying to sync a clip to appear at a specific time in the audio, I find it almot impossible because the preview is usually lagging. I have heard people suggest lowering the video quality, but that only helps some of the time. As for "your computer might be too slow" I can assure you that isn't the issue. I just want to know if Cyberlink is aware of this issue and that a fix is indeed coming. PD has been much better since the last update, but this is the one issue I am now having as a result. Thanks.
So would anyone recommend downloading the patch at this time? The main issue I'm having right now is with the produce times. However, I don't want to make anything else worse...
Yep, ever since buying PD14 I have had nothing but problems. I also contacted tech support and they gave me an automated answer much like yours. It is absolutely pathetic, and I will never buy another cyberlink product.
Quote: Hello Everyone,

I finally got new from PD support team last night, and I tried what they recommended to me, and now the GPU acceleration went back to work when Pruducing

first, I uninstalled PD14 and reinstalled it to a previous version, but the acceleration was still not working at this point.

PowerDirector support answer:

[VGA]: Nvidia GTX 960
[VGA driver]: 10.18.13.6191

I suggest you to try to delete the media cache to check if it works.

1. Open Windows Registry Editor
2. find the 2 folders and delete them
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\CyberLink\MediaCache5"
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\CyberLink\PowerDirector14"
3. Launch PowerDirector to check again

I havent given any answer back to PD support, because I need to conduct more test before getting back to them.

I aslo seen that if the ** Shadow file ** as been activated, the produce time is also longer than when this option was not active.

Aslo, if there is any ** Fix/Enhance ** option active, like video denoise or video stabilizer, the CPU is at 100% and almost no GPU hardware acceleration used. But if there is just a feature like Light adjustment or enhanced activated, the GPU acceleration goes up a little bit.

Now my test project file of 1 minute 28 seconds take about 2:40 minutes to produce if video enhance as been activated, and its take 1:01 seconds if nothing as been selected in Fix/Enhance option.
just to let you know, before removing these entry in the Windows Registry, the 1 minute 28 second test project was taking 10 minutes to produce since I installed the last PD patch that caused some problems.

The big problem now is the time line video playback lagging hard when the shadow file has not been activated, and with all the test I did last night, it seem to be really worst when the project files are .AVI files.

.MPG and some .MP4 files seems to be a lot better, except the .MP4 that are coming directly from the GoPro camera, but I need to conduct more test and will let you know.

Regards

Thanks for the update. Avi has never seemed to function properly with PD14, and its definitely something they need to address. On a side note, I am really impressed with the community here on the Cyberlink forums. You have all given very detailed, thought out responses and I appreciate the help and effort. It would be nice to see the same interaction from Cyberlink themselves, because as far as I can tell, they have been virtually silent on this issue.
Quote: Hi,
Just a heads up. The re-install route does not clearout or overwrite all data. There was a suggestion to use a specialist tool, see here: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/47699.page#249293
Just remember to back up what you need etc and be careful. I have not used the suggested product.

Creating a disc etc just for a re-install is in my view a waste of time. A downloaded software is ia compressed file that has to be unpacked to a temporary location before installing or unpack using a decompressing software. Ensure you clean out the temp directory as one of the re-install tasks.

Best of luck NIMRODofArnor.

Thanks, I appreciate the detailed responses you've given. I was weary of this method as well, as it usually doesn't work with other software. I contacted tech support about the issue. I'll give everyone an update if there is any relevant information.
Thanks for the responses everyone. Unfortunately, because of Cyberlink's slow response time, it looks like I will have to go with something else...
As we are all aware, PD14 is in an unuseable state ever since the latest "patch". Is there a way to revert to the previous version at least? I mean it wasn't great but at least it is better than what we have now. I need this for work, and in the state it's in, I basically cannot use it. Everything is 3 or 4x slower than normal, and the rendering has to be at least 5x longer. Does anyone know if Cyberlink will offer a refund? Because I am afraid I cannot wait much longer. I will likely have to switch to something else.
Quote: Hey all,

Hang in there and maybe someone will get you some help. I was having issues with captured avi files. Had an option to capture as MPEG-2 files rather than avi. Once I did this no more problems. Produce time is much faster also.

Thanks for the reply. What are you using to capture? I have fraps, and it only captures in AVI. Then I compress it and "edit" it in PD. It has ALWAYS struggled with AVI ever since I first started using it. To me this is unacceptable, since AVI is one of the most common "container" types. CL needs to get this fixed ASAP.
Quote: I'm getting the same probleme here about the the Produce time.
Now it takes 10 minute to produce a 1 minute 28 seconds project where it was about 4 minutes before, Wow..... !

I contacted PD support 3 time so far, and I did not get any pertinent answer or fix yet.

My desktop config still work fine with Gopro Studio, no lag at all and currently more stable than PD14 with the last patch.
( AMD FX8350, 16GB of RAM, Nvidia GTX 960 4GB, Windows 10)

I hope I can get a fix soon, so far I'm not impress about PD14 performances.

Agreed. If this doesn't get fixed soon I will have to switch to something else...
I've been using PD14 for several months now, and so far it has been suitable to my needs. But ever since the update, it has been crashing, mostly with avi files and often during saving. The produce feature has also slowed considerably. Things are now taking at least twice as long to render. And before you ask, no my C: drive is not almost full. I have over 300gb left. I would like to continue to keep using PD but I am afraid I may have to switch to something else. Any advice on this? Any help coming? Thanks.
Quote: Random black frame is a very good description !

This has happen to me on seveal occasions where there are NO gaps inbetween clips. On one project, the dreaded black frames even appeared in the clips. I have even placed the clips on seperate tracks and made sure that they overlapped by more than 1 frame, still the black frames appeared! After several attempts of trying to rid the edit of this blight, I got fed up and just published it. You can see what I mean in this short video https://youtu.be/CY4p7QX1exM

Even since then, I've had very little bother and I haven't changed anything, might have been a full moon when I did the edit, I don't know.

Cheers

Yep, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Everyone replying just assumes there is a gap, but I'm pretty adept at editing and there is clearly no gap in between the clips on my timeline. It has to be some sort of glitch. Absolutely infuriating.
Fyi, I just rendered the project again and a random black frame crept in between two entirely different clips that I hadn't even touched. It must be a rendering glitch of some sort.
Thanks for the reply. I already tried examining the timeline to make sure there were no gap in between the clips. It was showing that the clips were directly next to each other, even at the highest level of magnification. I was eventually able to sort it out by expanding one of the clips over that frame, but it was a hotfix. It just happened to work out better that way so I lucked out. However, I have seen other people talk about this issue and said they encountered it when they had removed an old clip and replaced it with a different one on the same spot of the timeline. Maybe a glitch of some sort?
Hey everyone,

I've been editing a pretty big project with multiple clips, and after I produced the project, I noticed something that has been infuriating. In only one instance of my video, there is a random black frame that flashes for just a millesecond in between two of the clips. I have done everything I can to try and fix this, including deleting and replacing the clips on the timeline. I have also zoomed in fully to ensure that both clips are placed directly next to each other. I have also checked the clips themselves and there is no black frames in them which could cause this problem; it only seems to show up after I render or produce the video as well. This is incredibly frustrating and any help anyone could give would be much appreciated. Thanks.

(fyi I have powerdirector 14)
