Even Netflix stopped sending out discs.
They did? I just got one in the mail yesterday! Maybe this is outside the US? (I'm in the US).

I have to admit that I was a little disappointed myself in the new features of PD. Version 15 had the 360 degree video features (which I had no use for), so I thought they would add some other things that we've been asking for. The major addition is the 360 stabilization and I have no use for that.
If they run a REALLY good special in the coming months I may consider upgrading, but I will probably wait until version 17 (Hoping that they add some of the many other things we've been asking for like the ability to draw simple shapes within the program: lines, squares, circles, etc; The ability to draw masks within the program; The ability to rotate PiP objects around ANY point - by moving the rotation origin; and so on).
Anyway, here's to hoping that number 17 will be "the big one".

That is what screenshot is for. You can advance one frame each time and take as many screenshots as you want.
And with hundreds of frames I'm sure that would be a lot of fun... NOT! I already knew about snapshot. But there are free external programs that can extract frames, etc, which would be MUCH preferable to: Advance - snapshot - advacnce - snapshot - advance - snapshot (for hundreds of frames).
Thanks, though.
Russell1967
There are programs that can extract all of the frames from video.
Google search:
https://www.google.com/search?q=extract+individual+frames+from+video&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8
.
Thanks. I'm already aware of this (both of my messages mention this), but wanted to avoid an extra step if possible. I thought maybe there was some hidden method/workaround that might have been discovered. I know that PD can import multi-image formats like .GIF and .TIFF, but don't know how deep that functionality goes.
Really it's not a big deal. Just thought there might have been something I overlooked (Wouldn't be the first time!)

Is it possible to do this in PD? I know there is no GIF export (would be nice), but is there some hidden way to export the individual frames of a video from within PD? (I know there are free tools to extract frames from a video).
If not, I submit this as a request for a future version of PD.

- When a video file is loaded that has embedded subtitle information (like some mp4 and mkv files), it would be nice if PD recognized this and created a subtitle track based on that information. Chapter information is also sometimes included in these files and could be used as well.
- Also relating to subtitles, it seems that the srt subtitle compatibility is incomplete: It doesn't seem to correctly convert italic tags. They get put into the video verbatim: < i >Hello < /i > SHOULD be converted to Hello, not "< i >Hello < /i >". [note: I had to put spaces in there so this forum text editor showed it right. Remove the spaces.]
- The ability to rotate PiP objects from any part of the shape, not just the center.
- The ability to draw simple shapes over the video: square/rectangle and ellipse (filled and unfilled, with selectable transparencies), line, etc. And as an added bonus, if the parameters of those shapes could be key-framed, that would be even cooler!

Has this been fixed yet? I want to buy the parner plug-in New Blue Video Essentials VI, but not if there is no color selector.
Still no color selector, and I doubt there will be one, as NewBlue has basically abandoned their legacy plugins (at least for PD it seems). Honestly I can't blame them much, since we probably represent (just guessing) less than 10% of their market.
Oh well... Hopefully PowerDirector 15 will support OpenFX, which will REALLY open up the program to hundreds of additional plugins.

And to add to that, if the points on the polygonal shape were keyframable...then your masking capabilities would be greatly increased.

On this note, perhaps a future version of PD could include some rudimentary drawing features, such as simple shapes (square, circle, polygon, arrows, etc). This feature could be used very effectively in conjunction with the masking tools, too! (Imagine using the aforementioned polygon tool to draw a shape around your actor and make it solid green so you can chromakey it out). The possibilities are endless!

Thanks! This caught my eye, though:
"If you want to keep using the NewBlue Essentials effects that came with PowerDirector 11, you must reinstall PowerDirector 11. They will then be available in PowerDirector 14."
So if you reinstall PD 11 AFTER installing PD 14 (or whatever version), then according to them they should be available. I will try this.

Ok, cool. I can't really copy folders over because I don't have those earlier versions installed on my PC. Maybe some day when I have a few hours to kill, I'll just start with PD11 and re-install everything up to PD14 from there.
It would be cool if I could just log into my Cyberlink account and just re-download those FX packages, though.

Well, a few months ago I had to reinstall Windows 7 Professional. Since, at the time, the most current version of PD that I had was PD 13, that was the version that I re-installed, before upgrading to PD 14.
I started using PD at version 11, I believe, and have updated to every new version through 14. In order to have all of the various plugins and FX from those previous versions (which I assume are still compatible with PD 14), do I need to uninstall PD 14, then re-install 11, then 12, then 13 and then 14? I went to the software update page and they are not listed there.
It's not a huge big deal, but it would kind of be nice to have "everything".

Did some digging:
PD 11 Ultimate came with:
- NewBlueFX "Paint Effects"
- NewBlueFX "Motion Effects"
- Travel Pack 2
- Holiday Magic Style
- Romance Pack 3
PD 12 Ultimate came with:
- NewBlueFX "Video Essentials II"
- NewBlueFX "Video Essentials III"
- And three Creative Design Packs for Vacation, Romance and Holiday (Not sure if these are the same ones as above)
PD 13 Ultimate came with:
- NewBlueFX "Video Essentials I"
- NewBlueFX "Video Essentials V"
- NewBlueFX Titler Pro 1.0
- Cyberlink Creative Design Pack "Wedding Pack"
- Cyberlink Creative Design pack "Holiday Pack 5"
And of course PD 14 Ultimate came with:
- Content Pack Essential
- Content Pack Premium
- NewBlue Video Essentials 1
- NewBlue Video Essentials 7
- NewBlue Titler Pro v1
- CyberLink Wedding Pack
- CyberLink Holiday Pack 6
- proDAD Adorage 1
- proDAD Adorage 13 Lite
- proDAD VitaScene LE
And PD 15 Ultimate comes with:
- Content Pack Essential
- Content Pack Premium
- Content Pack Premium 2
- Cyberlink Wedding Pack
- Cyberlink Holiday Pack 7
- NewBlue Video Essentials 1
- NewBlue Video Essentials 6
- NewBlue Video Essentials 7
- NewBlue Titler Pro v1.5
- proDAD Adorage 2
- proDAD Adorage 13 Lite
- proDAD VitaScene 2 LE
So it looks like some have been seen before, but some have not. What would really be cool is if Cyberlink would let us choose which NewBlueFX packages we want (Say "Choose any 3 effects packages" or something like that), because some of us that have been around for several versions may already have at least some of the ones included.

Yeah, I've seen this in other forums: Some people are saying that it can be done, while others are saying that PD wants you to uninstall your current version.
Any ideas why this would be?

Has anyone else ever run into this problem before? Sometimes, no method of deleting keyframes will work on certain keyframes. Clicking the diamond when the play head is on the diamond doesn't work, nor does right-clicking on the keyframe and selecting "Remove Keyframe". Other keyframes on the same PiP timeline delete with no problem. Usually I have to delete the entire clip and start the PiP Designer again.

Part of the confusion is that if you try to do the fade in/out keyframing in the Title Designer under "Border" and/or "Font Face", it will do as the original poster said. A good rule of thumb is that if the property doesn't have the keyframe symbols next to it in the left pane (the stopwatch icon, the "jump to previous/next keyframe" and the "create or delete" keyframe), it won't work. It will SEEM to work while you're doing it, though, until you move the play head and see...
Speaking of this, it would be a nice addition if PD would allow you to change the opacity of a clip at whatever points you want right on the timeline without going into one of the Designer modules first. Strangely, you CAN do this once you set up the opacity keyframes in one of the Designer modules, but not on title clips for some reason.

Hello!
I already have PD14, but wanted to try PD15 (specifically the Mask Designer). Question: Can I install the trial version without interferring with my current PD14? Can they both exist on the same computer? (I do NOT want PD15 trial to overwrite my current version - That would be bad.)
Anyone done this?

Yeah, they're cool and all, but, I don't know. I just don't see the general appeal or need for them. Maybe if virtual reality were more of a thing (It's getting there, but still has a ways to go and a number of technical problems to solve to make appealing to everyone, not to mention affordable).
Personally, I would have liked Cyberlink to concentrate on making the features they already have in PD14 more powerful and flexible, like in the case of mask-creation. Masks can be used to do all kinds of useful (and cool!) things.
A REALLY big thing that Cl could do that would REALLY open up PD to the world would be to make their editor OpenFX compatible. There are HUNDREDS of OFX plugins out there, such as Titler Pro 4 and many of the Boris plugins, etc. This would be a win for everyone: plugin developers (Because they would not have to tailor their plugins for specific NLEs), Cyberlink (Because it would make their editor more useful and thus more desirable to the consumer) and of course end-users (Because we then have a much larger selection of plugins to choose from).

Yeah, I've seen those, too. I mean, it's kind of cool, but I don't see what the big deal is for most videos. The cameras that do 360 are pretty impressive, though (most of them anyway). Some use two cameras, each with a 180 degree field of view; Some use four cameras, each with a 90 degree field of view (The "stitching together" of the separate videos is done in post-production somewhat automatically). But the ones I find interesting are the ones that use ONE camera, POINTED UP, that has an extreme fish eye lens that sees everything around the perimeter. The one-lens system has the advantage of not having any visible boundaries in the video (and no "stitching together" required), but the disadvantage of having a lower over-all resolution in a given field of view for obvious reasons (only one camera instead of multiple), and more warping. The one-lens cameras tend to be less expensive as well.
Anyway, personally, I'd have no use for it.

Well, I had never even heard of 360 video until I saw that two other consumer-level NLEs were boasting that they had that capability. Except for virtual reality or video games scenarios, I can't really think of a reason for 360 video.
I was REALLY hoping that the "Mask Designer" would be a powerful new masking tool that would allow you to essentially draw your mask directly on the screen. But, from what I've heard, they basically just took the masking capability already in the PiP Designer and made it a separate thing. I hope this is not true, because that would be really LAME!
In the Ultimate package, I'm not sure if those extra FX plugins are ones we've already seen or not. Maybe including something like Boris Graffiti or another cool plugin would have been better. (Boris Graffiti is fantastic!)
Anyway, Cyberlink is pretty good about patches, so I would think that there should be patches for PD14, at least for a while. What sorts of bugs are you finding with PD14?
Russell1967

Well, it looks like the 'Mask Designer' didn't add much, if anything. They basically just took the masking capabilities of the PiP Designer and made it a thing on its own. This YouTube video talks about the new features of PD15: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fccm4hLAvs0
