the 3d 'Smoke'. Is there a difference in how it can be customized?

i found the information in the full downloaded user guide. The online version doesn't appear to go into details, but the downloaded one does.
Thanks

is there someplace that describes each of the properties that can be modified for particles? the tutorial goes into some of the properties, but I can't find any real descriptions of what each thing does.
My main issue right now, is that I want a smoke effect, that lasts for a certain amount of time, but the way the smoke particle object is now, the smoke dissapates and restarts.
How do I make it last longer. I would love to be able to put the particle into the time line and simply trim it to the length that I really want. I tried mofifying the 'life' property, but I don't think that that's working.

i was not clear...
I don't want to video mute the entire track (that is the check box on the left), I only want to video mute a clip that is on the track. If there is a menu item for that, I would love to know about it.
I'll look at the last suggestion as well.

I use the clip audio mute feature all the time. I just figured out how to use the opacity of the clip to switch between multi camera angles, while maintaining both clips, but it would be nice if there was an option to toggle opacity in the menu, rather than having to open the PIP dialogue box.
Just saying

I had the same problem in that all of a sudden i was getting the unsuccessfull message.
Windows 8 claimed that I had the latest nVidia driver, but when I went to the nvidia site, I downloaded a newer (for 64bit) version, which made the rendering work.
Hope this helps

Sorry...i did not make this clear. I should have said that I have video clips with audio dialogue, that I need to edit and transition back together. That is where the audio is going out of sync.

Sorry if this has been addressed before, but I haven't found my exact issue
I have some clips that have audio. I want to split them to cut out 'dead' space, but it seems that when I try to put the edited parts together with fade transitions, the audio gets out of sync.
I have seen (and used) the idea of putting stills on a separate track and PIP to insert them into the timeline, but this is different.
Am I using the transitions incorrectly? Should I also put an audio transition at each cut?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. It was not any of those things. I am not exactly sure what happened, but the audio got out of sync on a previous clip. When I shifted the audio track back to be in sync...the audio from the next clip magically worked again.

i am having a similar problem. I am only using vid/audio track 1, and the audio plays fine in the library, but in the timeline, the audio doesn't play. All my other clips are fine (and this one was too..I don't know what I did to make it not work)
