I did Jake and nothing was recording until I selected the RECORD button, and by then, I had lost the first few frames.
On the back of the 300, I had sync set to OFF position, I don't know if that makes a difference, I don't see why it should, but srtanger things have happened...LOL

Dafydd & Heinz, SUCCESS !!!! After changing the 1394 driver from "TI 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller" to "1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy)", I no longer received an error message when PD10 screen started and I hit playback on the Video camera. The Canopus 300 performed it's function fine converting the Analog tape to Digital format.
I didn't realize one other thing ( being new at using video software), PD10 already had Capture highlighted, as well as Video camera, so I thought when I hit Playback on the VTR of the Movie Camera, the recording in PD10 would occur automatically. No way ! I had to hit the RECORD button, then I observed the Recorded indicator actually showing a count. I set the tape size to 4.7 GB in order to match the size of my DVD blank disk. 25 GB of tape, 5 more DVD worth to record, time for a blueray!!
Thank you again guys, much appreciated for your great help

Dafydd: I checked out the Canopus forum, it seems that the 1394 host controller can indeed give problems to Win7-64. Heinz had suggested to use the Legacy controller, which I have just installed, and will give that a try right after lunch and bringing in more firewood (winter has finally arrived here in the Northeast). I will let you guys know how this works.

heinnzb58: Thank you for your reply, I checked my 1394 driver, it was : Texas Instruments 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller. I installed the listed 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy), rebooted, and will see if PD10 will load my converted video from the Canopus 300. I will reply again after I give this a try. Thank you for your response Heinz,

I cannot seem to get PD10 to Capture my video from an A/D converter. I am using the Canopus model 300 ADVC and a fire wire cable to my PC ( WIN 7/64). I can load the converted Analog 8MM Movie cassette tape into Adobe 9 OK, as well as Microsoft Windows Live Movie Maker, but not into PD10 which is what I prefer. I just purchased PD10, and the specs say this can be done, but I cannot seem to get it to work. I have loaded from Adobe Elements version 9 into PD10, but not directly from the Canopus 300. The video has been converted from Analog to Digital, so WHY won't this work for PD10??
PD10 keeps saying that I cannot use the CAPTURE function because the iLink mode on the HDV device ( I assume they mean the Canopus 300 ADVC ) is not identical to the recorded format on the tape. Make sure the content on the tape is an HDV format. Come on, this is a converted Analog video to Digital video, why does it have to be High Definition video in order for PD10 to Capture the video?
Anyone have any ideas for getting PD10 to work to convert standard old 1995 version movie cassette tapes? I paid good money for PD10, I want it to work!! If it cannot function in this case, then the 217 pages worth of Users Manual should so state.

I will try that right after I shovel the new snow here, thank you.

I cannot seem to get PD10 to download my old Analog camera cassette tapes using the Canopus Analog to Digital converter. I am using a IEEE 1394 Firewire connection from the output of the ADVC to the PC. This output is a Digital video signal. My PC has plenty of HD space free 850 GB worth and the RAM is 6 GB, Up is Intel I7 and an NVIDIA 8250 video card. All drivers are updated. I have two postions on the ADVC I can use via a dip switch, PC control or ADVC control. If I use the PC control, I get a message from the PD10 program stating: "You cannot use the Capture functions because the iLink mode on the HDV device is not identical to the recorded format on the tape. Check the tape status or make sure the content on the tape is an HDV format and then reconnect the iLink again." Well of course the content is not HD it is an old Analog recording. So I decided to throw the dip switch to ADVC control, and I can see the first frame on the screen but nothing will download as the Camera plays the tape in VCR position. OK, I need some help here guys, anyone have experience with an ADVC, or in particular, the Canopus model 300 ADVC ?
Thank you in advance,
Dick

Hi Michael, I did check that post and went to the URL, but it brings up a site that wants to sell a service for dll's, I thought what you were giving me was the location to download the missing dll's for Power DVD Ultra version 9. I fixed the problem however by downloading the FREE TRIAL version of Power DVD version 10. Apparently, this has all the drivers and DLL's that your website did not provide with the re-install version of version 9. So after downloading the free trail version, I then proceeded to install the re-install version of Power DVD 9 which loaded with no more error messages, and this version was 113mb, NOT 122 MB.
Thank you Michael for your help,

Hi Michael, thank you for answering me, the frustration grows by the day, this is one month and not solved. I went to the forum link above that you mentioned, and then went to the links that supposedly had the two missing .dll's. That link brought up the web site DLL-files.com and the download was a Registry checker. I already use a Registry checker and the Registry is clean, I need the missing files. Aryan has been working my case and he keeps telling me to download a 122 mb file that tells me it is only 113 mb before I even begin the download!! I have run CL Cleaner many times, it says it was successful, no surprise because all Power DVD files are gone and registry is also clean. Every time I try to load DVD9 it gets to the page after I enter my name and the error code appears: Unhandled Exception, Error 0x80040702 Failed to load dlly Path Checker. So what is the answer? Downloading over and over a file that is 113mb that is supposed to be 122 mb is not the answer. Running CLCleaner 15 times is not the answer. Disabling anti virus and firewall is not doing it either. It is obvious to me that I need the missing .dll's for Path Checker
HELP!!

I have been working with Tech service for a month now, and they have still not found the cause of error : Unhandled Exception: Error 0x80040702, Failed to load dlly Path Checker!!!!!!
I have tried everything they told me, to uninstall, reinstall, check the registry and delete any references to Power DVD. ( there were none, nor any files and folder, INCLUDING any HIDDEN folders )
Has anyone else experienced this problem,? I had Power DVD 9 installed and running on my PC for months with no issues until my HD died an early death, now that I need to reinstall using Cyberlink's download path they gave me, I get to the moment of install where I type in my name & company ( none ), and when I hit NEXT, the error message appears every time !!
My system is running Win7-64
I am getting frustrated with Tech services because I now have to chase them for answers, it takes days for them to get back to me with another fix and only have reminding them that I am still down for the count with this problem. And $29 for telephone service?? Are you freeking crazy? None of my other vendors charge for telephone service AND, they have CHAT service also. What gives with el cheapo Cyperlink?
