Just sharing....When I had the GE there where no real PD14 crashes....I removed it in attempt to get PD14 to use my graphics card but no such luck....no crashes with out either....
I have the almost exact same laptop along with the same video card and I also thought I had the "right" video card.....The problem with tweaking the registry is some have had PD14 crashing issues and for me the only thing worst then slower rendering is an unstable program...
I removed the "GeForce Experience" and still the same issues....
I'm still frustrated and no real answer in sight....

I don't game either, so is there a driver for my GTX 960M that does work with PD14?.......I'd roll back if it would speed up my rendering!
I had intermittant issues like this with PD13, but assumed the a new version would widen it's range of cards that can be used.

Here is my DX.....maybe there is something there that can help others as well....

I have the exact same issue with my GTX 960M.....

Let me explain my process and how I understand it....and totally open to good advise and info.....
I shoot my motorsport action at 60 fps. I drop those clips down into the timeline at 60 fps, then run the portions of those clips at 1/2 speed (which I believe would be 30 fps) for my slo mo moments. I then produce at 30 fps. So now all my movie is at 30 fps but the slo mo is smooth because it's source was already 30 fps.
So now I have smooth 1/2 speed slo motion....but what if i want to slow things down to 1/4 speed, my 60 fps clips drop down to 15 fps and start to lose their "smoothness"......even producing at 30 fps my 1/4 speed sections are not going to be as smooth as my 1/2 speed because those source clips were 15 fps.
My assumptions are based on how film would be shot, shooting at 48 fps and played back at 24 gives you smooth playback, if you need slower then you "overcrank" even more like 96 fps for 1/4 speed. I still don't see why you would produce at say 120 fps, then played back at 120 fps if the clips are no higher then say 60 fps.
I maybe all wet about how I understand how this works

Yes GoPro clips. A little dissipointed because one of the reasons I upgraded is because PD 14 was advertized as now being able to support those higher frame rates....
Does anybody know why you would produce to a higher frame rate then the original source clips were?
Ok....but that's producing a movie. I want to be able to drop a high frame rate clip onto the timeline to get smooth slow motion. What is the advantage of producing a movie at 60 - 120 fps if most players are going to drop all thos extra frames to play back at 30 fps.
PD14 claims to support action camera frame rates up to 120, but when i go to set my frame rate in Preferences the max available is 60 fps.
What am I missing?
Thanks

i wouldn't say they're terrible at landscapes and such, just not ideal...HOWEVER for POV they are pretty cool...i like Med width because it gets rid of most of the fish eye.....because they are so light using a selfie stick or the headband mount works nice if you have to carry for a long time.
Have a great trip!

TonyL had a lot of good advice...What do you plan on filming?....GoPro's aren't the best for most non-action filming. i have 4 GoPro cameras and most of the time I shoot at 1080 60 fps. I like shooting at 60 fps because it gives me the option of smooth slow mo if i need it, but it does eat at your memory card..which i run 32/64 gig cards depending on which cam i'm using.
If you are going to be carrying it around for a full day at a time, I would recomend a a good portable battery to keep the cam's battery charged up, one short coming I find with many of the GP cams are not so great battery life...
i don't have PD14....yet...but have had no issues slicing and dicing GP footage in PD11, 12 and now 13

No matter what you spend, you will get more bang for your buck by going with a desktop unit...but you can't take it with you. i went with a laptop several years ago for the portability, but made sure it had more then bargin basement horsepower. I just upgraded to a 17" ACER Aspire Black Edition with an I7 4720, Nvida GTX960M, 256 gig SSD, 1T hard drive and 16g of ram.....
I think the above has plenty of HP and looking foreward to PD14 when I get time....

Ok...we have a winner!
Looks like when I updated the graphic driver it re-set the default card to the HD4600 for PD13. It was set to the Nvidia prior.
So I've been rendering mp4 after mp4 with all sorts of effects applied to the same clip and no issues.
First off thanks to everybody for their help, second is there some sort of post after fixing an issue?
Actually the first thing I did was to update Q/Time....and I'm on 3130.....Here's another diag...
Update:
Downloaded latest driver for 960M - 355 I think...
Windows site says I have a custom Acer driver for my HD4600 and need to get driver from them
Acer says my HD4600 driver is the newest even though it's over 1 yr old..
Ran SFC - no issues found.......Here's the kicker
No I have NO fast video/HA available at all for any profile!.....I have no gone backwards...
Open to ideas?....thx
Alright....got me some homework......
Ok....lets try this
Do I run the diag static, that is with no programs running or do I start PD13 first then run diag?
Just so you know, I tried 2 different clips, one a GoPro MP4 1080/30 fps and the other a 3640x 2160 shot with my Galaxy 5S. In both cases the Fast Video Render and Hardware encoding were avalible and checked.....but again one time only to use FVR and HA.
The reason I'm asking for help is that I made sure I had a half decent video card in my new laptop (I know the 960M is a middle of the ground model) because I wanted faster rendering.....and if it's not able to be used, I kind of wasted money on hardware....
Thanks for everbody's feedback
