It would be very helpful to Cyberlink customers if they would make it very clear on their website that they only provide support for purchases made through specific retailers, if that is the case.

It would save many customers a lot of headache.
And I suspect it might also improve customer support for customers who have used the preferred retailers, since customer support agents would not have to waste as much time with component activation problems from other users who bought from unauthorized sellers.

(It would also be helpful for Cyberlink to crack down on unauthorized eBay sellers. I had been watching the sells for weeks if not months before I eventually made a purchase, and I saw a number of users buying the same software from a handful of sellers and leaving good feedback ratings, so they looked legitimate.)
Cesar, I am dealing with the same problem. I bought what was advertised as new software, which installed fine, but I'm having trouble activating components.

(I've previously purchased software from other companies via eBay retailers and not had issues with registering and activating those programs.)

If you ultimately can't get the software to work using Cyberlink customer support, you should be able to file a complaint with eBay that the product was not as advertised, which may allow you to get your money back. (In some cases, other options may be to file disputes with PayPal or your credit card company, if you used either of them to make the purchase.)

However, be aware that there are deadlines by which you must initiate the complaint process in order to comply with complaint restrictions, so do not delay. Credit card companies also may have restrictions in terms of the minimum price for the purchase and whether you already paid the full purchase price, so read the fine print. (In my case, I did not have the time to work on video editing until a number of weeks after the original purchase, so by the time I discovered a component activation issue, I was already past the dispute deadlines.)
Just to let anyone who might be reading know, I have received a response, so response time was just under 24 hours. Not too bad.

Still not able to activate yet, but with any luck a simple solution can be found before long.
Thanks for the info, dafydd.

I do hope Cyberlink will honor what seemed to be a legitimate purchase (I received what appeared to be a new disk with a security or activation code that has otherwise allowed the software to function). If Cyberlink insists on honoring purchases made exclusively through the venues listed in that link, they really should make that very clear in a prominent place on their website.

At any rate, do you have any idea how long I should expect to wait before receiving a customer support reply?

I've even considered buying yet another copy, but I am afraid that I would then have issues with trying to install a new copy over traces left from a previously installed copy -- and I'd still have to wait for customer support to help deal with that.
Any idea as to how long customer support typically takes these days to respond to requests for help with activation errors?

From searching the threads, I've seen some complaints of 5+ days to receive responses -- but does this apply even to simple questions about correcting codec activations?

(I have some travel coming up later this week, so I would like to plan accordingly. If I shouldn't expect any response for about a week, there's no point in expecting to be able to work further on my projects before my trip.)

For what it's worth, I submitted a support ticket request yesterday
ticket number CS001156137
along with attached screenshots of the activation error message (I can't use the MPEG-2 component) and my purchase confirmation email from eBay
And a related question, to hijack my own thread, is what's the best location for storing projects saved by Auto Save?

The default has it set to my main drive, but I'm afraid that there may not be enough space there.
(Plus, I'm worried that SSDs don't hold up as well over the long term as disk drives to repetitive save/erase activity.)
Thanks for the replies. Based on what I'm hearing, I think I may just stick with my current RAM for the time being.
I'm confused about where the page file should be located.
I'm coming to PD from Adobe Premiere. In the past I've read users on the Adobe forums advocating moving the page file to a different disk drive from the drive that holds the operating system.

From a brief search of PD discussions, it seems that some here have thought that, yes, the page file is best placed on a different disk drive when several drives are available.

But in some cases, eg main drive is an SSD with a decent amount of free space, it is best to leave the page file on the main drive.

So what is the current thinking?
My :C drive is an SSD with about 175GB of free space. I only keep the OS and applications there. I generally store data on different disks.
Will keeping the page file on the SSD be more likely to improve or impede performance with editing/rendering (or would the impact either way likely be negligible)?

Window 7 64-bit Home Premium
~175GB free SSD for :C drive
1TB free internal hard drive

~235GB free external hard drive (USB-2)

3TB USB-3 external hard drive just for backup

(Btw, I obviously realize I could just test this kind of thing out for myself, but there are so many different variables to consider in setting up the system, learning how to use the software, figuring out which settings are optimal for specific projects, etc, it could take me months and months to test everything out. I'm hoping to be able to better direct which tests I ultimately run and cut down on the testing time by benefiting from the experiences of others who have already dealt with some of these questions.)
I was watching a Cyberlink tutorial yesterday discussing the advantages of 64-bit processing vs 32-bit processing for what had been the latest release of PowerDirector at the time the tutorial was produced (might have been for PD9, don't recall).

The video made the point that if you had 8GB RAM but were running a 32-bit processor (or a program limited to operating within a 32-bit environment), only 2GB of your RAM could be utilized at once, as opposed to 8GB being utilized if you were running a program capable of full 64-bit processing.

Does this also mean that RAM sizes greater than 8GB won't offer any particular efficiency advantage for PD10 processing?

Has anyone tested PD9 or PD10 rendering speeds with 8GB vs 12GB vs 16GB RAM?
Did 12GB or higher make a difference?

(I'm asking this question out of simple curiosity.
But, incidentally, I'm running W7 Home Premium with 8GB RAM, and would consider upgrading RAM if it would really bump processing speeds. Problem is that my current motherboard can't hold more RAM, so an upgrade would entail a motherboard upgrade as well, and I'm just not too enthusiastic about dealing with all that that would entail at the moment.)
I was just able to update to the latest patch (1703 I think was the number) by accessing it on the support webpage.

The trouble is that prior to doing that, when I went into PD10 itself and clicked in the upper right area of the screen on ? --> About Cyberlink PD --> Upgrade, the boxes that displayed for Upgrade, Update, and Installed Packs were empty. Even after I had downloaded and installed the latest patch, the boxes were still empty.

This has left me confused as to what the purpose is of those boxes.

Since they were blank when I accessed them prior to the update, if the boxes are supposed to show when new content is available, and if I had been relying on that source of info alone, I would not have known that any updates were available.
On the other hand, if the purpose of the boxes is to show what updates I've already made since the original installation, the fact that the boxes are still empty after the installation of this new patch would seem to indicate that there is a glitch of some sort.

So what exactly is the intended function of those boxes?
It would be very helpful if that was explained with a prominent message on the downloads page.
