Component Activation problem

I have PowerDirector 10 (10.0.0.1129b) installed from the CD, and it's requiring MPEG-2 "Component Activation."

When I click activate, it returns the message "Codec Activation Unsuccessful. The program's serial number is invalid."

I doubt Amazon is selling invalid serial numbers. Mine installed fine.

I submitted a support ticket. It was a joke. They said to make sure my internet connection was valid. I have no problems connecting to the internet, no firewalls, nothing.

Any ideas? I can't find any hacks, but I'm sure there must be something. I'd thought I'd try the legal route first.

thanks

Hi PortlandGuy,
Welcome to the forum.

Codec Activation should/must be carried out within 30 days of purchase/installation onto your computer. This is a security feature and is not directly related to key activation. Please provide support your full purchase details: name, date and supplier.

When did you purchase/install PD10? What is the support ticket number?

Dafydd,
Thanks much. I bought the program from Amazon in February, I'll have to check the exact day. I installed it February 7th (according to the control panel), but was on vacation while it expired apparently. Just opened it yesterday to do some editing, and it's not working.

Does this mean I can never activate it, because I missed the 30 day deadline?

The support ticket number is CS001130008

I'll have to look up which account I bought it on, either my wife's or mine.

Thanks

Hi PortlandGuy,
I'll ask CyberLink to look up your ticket and refer this thread to them. They should be in touch with you.

Thank you for your help! I'm sure you know it's quite frustrating to be in the middle of a video project and not be able to finish it (the deadline is Wednesday!)

Companies like this should be forced to inform consumers that they have to activate portions of the software, that purchasing the software does not mean they'll be able to use it!

Lesson learned.

Thanks again, Kevin

Hi Kevin,
Please make sure you provide support with your proof of purchase data - you got from Amazon. Online support should then help you (CL has advised).
Best of luck with your project.

They say I must provide proof of purchase that I purchased it from cyberlink.com I threw away the receipt that Amazon sent in the package, so I can't provide proof.

Very frustrating, two days without the program (they take a day to respond every time!), and the project is due tomorrow evening!

You should be able to go into your amazon account and pull up your digital transactions.... actually you can pull up all of your transactions..........
Hit the your orders button, it will have you sign in again, then on the right side of the page enter the time frame ie 30 days, 6 months or 100 years... hit go (or whatever it says to the right of your choice) and your purchases will come up for that time frame...

And we ALL agree that the 30 day activation is really stupid on Cyberlinks part, but I guess they do it to not have to pay licensing fees as I guess there may be one or two people that only do wmv... but I would rather pay a couple dollars more to start with and not have to worry about it...

Thank you Bubba for the additional guidance here, very helpful.

PortlandGuy,
Proof of purchase must be provided for support to act.

The timescale on the replies and the production date you have are not something we can do a lot about. We can only try and provide you with possible solutions.

I never by software off ebay any more for that very reason. I got stung on several copies of Windows 7. All came in legit boxes with all documents and key codes. Registered in the beginning no problem, then after about 3 days got a pirated software notice when I booted up.

Did get my money back from PayPal.

Ebay software.... keep away from.... far away..... Even Amazon is not fool proof. __________________________________________

Cesar, I am dealing with the same problem. I bought what was advertised as new software, which installed fine, but I'm having trouble activating components.

(I've previously purchased software from other companies via eBay retailers and not had issues with registering and activating those programs.)

If you ultimately can't get the software to work using Cyberlink customer support, you should be able to file a complaint with eBay that the product was not as advertised, which may allow you to get your money back. (In some cases, other options may be to file disputes with PayPal or your credit card company, if you used either of them to make the purchase.)

However, be aware that there are deadlines by which you must initiate the complaint process in order to comply with complaint restrictions, so do not delay. Credit card companies also may have restrictions in terms of the minimum price for the purchase and whether you already paid the full purchase price, so read the fine print. (In my case, I did not have the time to work on video editing until a number of weeks after the original purchase, so by the time I discovered a component activation issue, I was already past the dispute deadlines.)

It would be very helpful to Cyberlink customers if they would make it very clear on their website that they only provide support for purchases made through specific retailers, if that is the case.

It would save many customers a lot of headache.
And I suspect it might also improve customer support for customers who have used the preferred retailers, since customer support agents would not have to waste as much time with component activation problems from other users who bought from unauthorized sellers.

(It would also be helpful for Cyberlink to crack down on unauthorized eBay sellers. I had been watching the sells for weeks if not months before I eventually made a purchase, and I saw a number of users buying the same software from a handful of sellers and leaving good feedback ratings, so they looked legitimate.)

I bought it a while back i think around April so the deadlines for money back have expired. How ever i never got this error message until i installed a fresh copy of windows 7.

Either way i am very disappointed and it will be the last time i buy a cyberlink product.

Do you have another computer you can install it on? A friends? ( I will deny saying that in court)..

It may be your Win 7 install.... __________________________________________

Is this still true with PD12 ? I7-4770, 3.40Ghz, 16GB RAM, Asus Z87-Plus Z87chipset, Sapphire ATI Radeon HD7850 PCI Express-16 3.0 2GB, Samsung EVO 840 SSD 1TB

I did not have to do that activation when I installed PD 12 Ultra. To be sure, I checked all of the formats, no request for activation.

I did have to activate PD 11.

Thanks Carl. That limited "30 days or you loose it" (apparently) was nonsense and probably stressed a lot of people. Good thing we're clear of that with PD12 I7-4770, 3.40Ghz, 16GB RAM, Asus Z87-Plus Z87chipset, Sapphire ATI Radeon HD7850 PCI Express-16 3.0 2GB, Samsung EVO 840 SSD 1TB

I'd be a little cautious here, PD12 still requires activation of AVCHD, Blu-ray Disc, DVD, H.264, and MPEG-2. Activation need appears to depend on a few factors, I've had several new PD12 users that needed to activate. CL continues to document the need for PD12 as well. As a minimum, users should go through the above formats for their setup to avoid potential issues.
