Quote Thanks for the DxDiag results. Your laptop is fine for working with HD clips, but it will struggle if you're editing 4K videos. Using shadow files will help.

The video driver for your Intel GPU is more than a year and a half out of date, although that seems to be the most recent driver available from HP's support page.

If you plan to have PD use the nVidia GTX 1050 instead, you should be able to update to the latest studio driver directly from nVidia.

Note that you may have to enable the nVidia card in the BIOS, and you also my need to tweak the graphics settings in Windows to prevent PD from using the Intel GPU (Quick Sync) instead. This post has more info.

Hi Optodate, thanx for this reply.

Encouraging to learn I can lproduce on this machine. Have updated nVidia driver and BIOS, plus enabled nVidia card.

Now I'll talk to sales re the best deal for a one-off project. Hoping to be able to buy for a month but suspect I'll need to sub for a year.

Many thanks again,
Sorry, post showed old PC stats in signature...please disregard.

Hi all, not sure if this is the forum for general advice. Was once active on Cyberlink around v10 era and then stopped.

Now I need to produce a video for personal use plus YouTube and wondering if v19 or 360 is suitable for my current lappie. Heres the dxDiag:
Mate, you're a star (and I'm an idiot) - the 'ol hidden folders trick.

Have now recovered previous file versions which open okay so after work will attempt to isolate the problem. Will update when solved. Many thanks.
Playsound, I've rebooted numerous times and checked for the autosave folder but it wasn't there, seems I've never had it, despite having checked autosave in preferences. Maybe it never installed, or is hidden. Unfortunately I can't go back to check if the current file is corrupted.
Hi, I'm having trouble opening a particular .pds file. It's a basic music video of a video track, two audio tracks and a music track, and a dozen PiPs. Plus a medium chroma effect.

On opening it stops at 79%, indicating a .WAV file is the sticking point. Then crashes. I turned off shadow files, accelerated hardware, no luck. Yet other files open fine, even one with a heavier load.

Just wondering if it's a system issue or a PD hiccup. I'm using PD10 Ultra bld.2231. Thanks for any suggestions.

Then I got an error message saying some of the buttons were overlapping. PD10 cannot tell you which buttons are overlapping...

Had the same hurdle until realising that overlapping refers to the button's working border which pops up when moving buttons around. It's simply a matter of positioning these work boxs so they don't make contact.

But boy, adjusting the number of buttons per page sure is a dark art. I eventually got it to work but I'm unsure how. It may require the number of chapters first being loaded into the 'create disc/content' panel. Then saving. You might get lucky.
Someone might find this useful as I've seen no mention of it before.

When my WaveEditor first installed the display was incomplete and froze the screen, graying everthing out. So I used another editor to finish a project after CL tech advised I should uninstall/reinstall PD10 Ultra.

It's a compatability issue with Win 7, easily fixed by right clicking on WE and choosing 'troubleshoot compatability'. This reveals WE only runs on WinXP (SP2). Who knew? The wizard then reconfigures the system to suit whenever WE opens.
jmone, when producing I didn't receive the HW encoder option with MPEG-2 DVD HQ using PAL. So I've attached MediaInfo on the normal render without SVRT.

As you indicated this clip looks much better than the custom render at 1080i. So it looks like I'll have to settle for the DVD HQ setting.

Unfortunately I don't have ready access to a decent sized TV for testing (a real problem when producing interlacced vids). Just wondering how this resolution would present on a big screen - should I expect to see significant degradation or not?

My GPU is a GeForce GTX 570 1280mb. Thanks for the input.

EDIT: after enabling HW encoding and OpenCL in preferences, SVRT wasn't available. Is this normal for MPEG-2 format ?
jmone, I maintained the frame rate of 25fps, though I could have sworn it was listed at 50 somewhere. I'm attaching a captured/produced comparison by MediaInfo. Maybe someone can spot something out of wack...

HDedit, jaggedness is minor, intermittent compared to strong artifacts in certain light. These are not uniform throughout, other sections have adequate definition given the exercise. 'Also, which thread are you suggesting I read..?

I did call a JVC techie at the start of this project who said basically the only way to retain full definition with AVCHD was to produce in Blu-ray. Still, I'm confident that an acceptable SD version of my HD footage can also be produced.

Not giving up!
Dafydd, thanks for your reply. Yes, your listed disc creation process is correct, plus I select Dobly.

Have PD build 1012 with auto updates, and attached a dxdiag. However I've only just disabled hardware accel, for no noticable benefit. Also I always produce to a folder then import it for burning.

Thanks for the profile tip. I was able to burn MPEG-2 using a 1920x1080 setting, but with little improvement. I will experiment with different profiles tomorrow. Would a lower format or higher bitrate been more suitable?

Another forum user commented about losing quality at the authoring and burn stage, suggesting that Nero or Power to Go were better options for this step. What do you think?

Ultimately I may need to utilise your closing options of USB or SD cards if the discs don't work out. Ideally t would be better if guests can view it on TV and enjoy the labelling. But packaging is irrelevant if the quality is distracting.

Fortunately I've got some time off so I'm keen to work this out. Thanks again.
Hi, my first post so here goes. Firstly, this forum has been a great source of help and got me this far without a request.

I'm using PD10 Ultra and have edited 16GB of AVCHD wedding footage into a 40 min movie comprising some 240 clips with titles and effect. Phew. Now for the production. Blu-ray tests look sweet but DVD tests are underwhelming with artifacting and jaggedness.

The JVC source .mts files are interlaced 1920x1080. However when producing for DVD (for those guests without Blu-ray) using MPEG-2 I'm only offered (HDV) MPEG-2, 720p.

Question: must I create a custom profile in order to retain interlacing or can I produce in 1080i via some other method?
I entered the Qualtiy Profile Setup panel and created a 1920x1080 setting with 'top line first' checked, but was rejected with: There are no customized profiles available. Select one from another profile group.

What am I missing, or is there an easier way to improve output quality?

Thanks in advance,
Ade
