Project file won't open, others will
[Post New]
Hi, I'm having trouble opening a particular .pds file. It's a basic music video of a video track, two audio tracks and a music track, and a dozen PiPs. Plus a medium chroma effect.

On opening it stops at 79%, indicating a .WAV file is the sticking point. Then crashes. I turned off shadow files, accelerated hardware, no luck. Yet other files open fine, even one with a heavier load.

Just wondering if it's a system issue or a PD hiccup. I'm using PD10 Ultra bld.2231. Thanks for any suggestions.

I assume you already did the basics, restart the PC, check the project ...
It already happened to me a few times.
The solution I gave, open the project autosave PD.
Normally the last *.PDS returns without problems, but if ever had to go back but carries.
Aquivo autosave project is save every 10 minutes (default)
You find here the date, time and name facilitates:
Menu Edit / Preferences ... / Progect / browse (box)

Playsound, I've rebooted numerous times and checked for the autosave folder but it wasn't there, seems I've never had it, despite having checked autosave in preferences. Maybe it never installed, or is hidden. Unfortunately I can't go back to check if the current file is corrupted.

AutoSave is located in a hidden folder.
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\CyberLink\PowerDirector\10.0\AutoSave

Change your folder options to show Hidden files and Folders.

You can also change the Autosave location in Preferences. You can put it in a easy to find location.

Edit: fix spelling

Mate, you're a star (and I'm an idiot) - the 'ol hidden folders trick.

Have now recovered previous file versions which open okay so after work will attempt to isolate the problem. Will update when solved. Many thanks.

Hi Ade57,
The likelihood is the pds became corrupted during the save process and you overwrote the previous pds.

Use Ctrl+Shift+S and save your project file to a new name each time. 001.pds, 002.pds etc
Or select File/Save Project file as.

I have recommended editors adopt a safety first approach when editing for a long time. Create your own fall back position.

Dafydd
