Hello, kevinbuckley70
There's another way to do this, simply call up a black colour board from the colour boards and drop it onto a PiP track to cover the right half of your screen, then pick an animation effect that moves the superimposed black colour board to the right. Depending on the wanted duration of the effect, click on the colour board(highlight it) a "Duration" tab will appear, click on it and set the wanted duration of your effect and the black colour will move to the right as fast or as slow as you wish.
Hope this works for you.
Cheers!

I just saw something curious. The marker against this thread on the forum threads list was (sort of)pulsating. I thought it might indicate an incoming post, but when I opened the thread, nothing new came up.
Hmmmm.....! What does it all mean?
Cheers!

I apologise for typographic errors which have appeared on my posts. It seems my keyboard sometimes exhibits a will of its own and if I hit a key for one letter, another semingly jumps in, in place of the wanted letter. I generally refer to this phenomenon as "Keyboard Gremlins". This can be very frustrating and can make one look like an uneducated "goose"! You only pick up on typo errors long after posting and it's quite embarrassing.

I've been hearing comments about Windows 10 lately that make me wary about putting it on my computer. Already a friend of mine who lives in the same Housing Commission block as me had installed Eindows 10 on his computer and now his DVD rewrite drives(he has two on his computer) won't work because Win10 doesn't have the necessary software to recognise them. He's had other problems as well with Win10 and that's enough to put me off WIN10 for the forseeable future. I'll stay with Windows 7 with this computer, thanks!

Hi, TonyL
I ordered and paid for a boxed version of PD14 Ultra last Monday(12th October), paying(in Australian money)$119.96. I'd seen it from another supplier quoted at $139.00 thereabouts, so I've saved roughly 20 bucks on the purchase. I ordered the programme software through a store near where I live, a "Harvey Norman" store, the one here in Salamander Bay(part of Port Stephens area) is a consumer electrical store while the wider chain of Harvey Norman stores also deal in furniture and other goods. The joke in Australia these days is that people have started calling the chain "Hardly Normal" and they've picked up on it and used it in one of their recent TV ads, so they were in on the joke, as it were. I expect to be able to pick up my PD14 Ultra either next Monday(19th October), or, at latest, the Monday after(26th October). I'll be notified by phone of its arrival.
Cheers!

Hi, Zabo!
I haven't downloaded your images as I'm trying to avoid doing video downloads as it chews up my data reserve. I get 4 gigabytes every 45 days(pre-paid) from Virgin Broadband, yes, it does roll over, so before I download anything, I make sure I have a sizeable data reserve first, so I may download your clips later. But from what your saying, I hope I don't run into the same problem. It's the reason that, even with PD14, I'll stick to the same routine that has served me well through PD7 and PD8.
Cheers!

Thanks, Dafydd!
Likely I'll sort that out when I get hold of the package containing my PD14 Ultra installation disc(and any other material it may contain).

Hi everyone!
One thing I've learned is DON'T RENDER in AVCHD using PD8! Tried it once, took nearly forever to render a 1-hour video. So, even though the new digital video camera I bought a few weeks back shoots in AVCHD or MP4, I've opted for MP4 in the camera, and for PD14(when I get it), I'll be sticking with tried-and-true MPEG2 which, in most cases renders so fast, you barely have time to sneeze before your video is rendered! That's the case with PD8. As for titling applications in PD14, is there an option? NewBlue or regular titling? As it is, I create my own animated titles, using letters I designed myself using Microsoft Paint. Having the vastly-expanded number of PiP tracks in PD14 with lift my game considerably there.

My one question(I'm due to receive my PD14 Ultra), as well as the video action on the screen, does it also capture the audio? A third-party video editing suite I have also on my computer features "screen capture" but does not capture the audio. I tried it once and was greatly disappointed when I got the image but no sound! (Bugger!).

Jagerbomb, Hi there!
Even a bought-and-paid-for editing software will behave like a trial version until the CD-Key number is typed in. Upon installation, when the programme is opened for the first time, you'll get the usua palabre, fill in name, address(and zip or post code), email address and other info, then there is the space for you to enter the CD key which is that somewhat over-long set of letters and numbers which, when entered, activates the programme and renders it as a full version. If you've had earlier versions of Power Director, you'll already be familiar with that routine. But if you're still getting that "Produced With Power Director 14" after all that, then a complete uninstall/reinstall might solve the problem.
Cheers!

My computer was lagging so I hit "Refresh" this extra comment box came up without a provision to cancel it. That's why I typed this, to use this post box up. Please disregard.

Hi, Mike!
I tend to use a lot of keyboard shortcuts myself when editing, saves me a bit of time and wear & tear on the mouse(as long as I don't feed him the wrong type of cheese - ha-ha). There are some actions, though, that do require a few mouse movements but mostly I get by with the keyboard shortcuts. Still looking forward to getting my PD14 Ultra!

Hi, Tomasc!
You've just given me a good heads-up on what to avoid when editing. I don't see that "crossfade" feature vailable in PD8(probably just as well, too). I think, even though it shortens my videos' overall length, I'll stick to my usual practice with transitions. I'm curious to see if there are any more transition styles in PD14 than there are(or were) in PD7 and PD8. I'm currently using PD8(Ultra) and had previously used PD7(Delux).
Cheers!

Hi, TonyL
You're downloading from the net? Geez! If I did it that way, I'd blow my current allotment of 4Gb every 45 days(pre-paid) plus any spare gigabytes that had "rolled over" from my last few top-ups with Virgin Broadband. Nah, I bought the boxed installation kit. No gigabytes need to be sacrificed there!
Your "Brand" Video? Is this the first-play you drop into your DVDs?(or Blu-Rays if you' have that facility).
Chyeers!

Hi, TonyL
After you've done an edit or two on PD14, PM me and let me know what you think of it. I only ordered(and paid for) my PD14 Ultra this past Monday(12/10/2015) and I expect it to be in store, waiting for me to collect it, either next Monday(19/10/2015) or the following Monday(26/10/2015). I'll know when the store notifies me by phone. In the meantime, I'm still using PD8 Ultra.
Yeah, going from PD8 to PD14 will be a quantum leap forward! I've been following a thread on the "Power Director(Previous Versions)" forum asking if two different Power Director versions can be run on one computer, I await my chance to put that idea to the test.
Cheers!

G'day, TonyL,
I'm not yet in posession of PD14 but I have ordered and paid for it through a Harvey Norman store near me, and I hope to take posession of, and install it on my computer either next Monday(19th October) but it could be as late as Monday(26th October) before I get it. The store will notify me when it has arrived. I eagerly await its arrival! Even with the comments I made about installing PD14 on two separate computers, it's a scenario I'll likely never play out personally, as I only have my desktop computer. But at some future date, I should acquire a laptop, I'd like to have the full version of PD14 installed on it, from the same installation disc used to install on the computer I'm using now to write this post.
Cheers!
Neil.
P.S. - What's a "Drongo"? - The word "Drongo" is Australian slang for "Idiot" but it's a word that has fallen out of use here.

Hi, TonyL and Wallace88!
It was a sentence from Optodata, as follows: "As far as I know, the single installation rule isn't actively enforced for PD like it is for Office or even for NewBlue FX. In those cases, you have to deactivate the product while you're online for the key to be released, and then you can install (move) it to a new device" which gave me the suggestion about Cyberlink being a bit more "democratic" about installing Power Director on more than one computer. Away from Cyberlink, for the moment, If other software companies want to strictly enforce that one licence per PC rule, they'll only hurt themselves in the long run, through their corporate greed.
Cheers!

Hi, Tomasc,
I'd like to know that trick! It might come in handy.

I've been using my own templates for DVD "slicks" and CD cards using Microsoft's Publisher, for label printing I use the software that came with my Cannon IP4850 printer, which prints to white inkjet-printable discs.

Hi, Zabo!
In answer to your question: "Is there a way to keep the timeline integrity while adding transitions?", sorry, no, there isn't. This is common to many, or even all makes of video editing software. Each time you add a transition, you shorten the length of your video by the amount of time of the transition, e.g.: Transition time = 2 seconds; 5 transitions inserted, duration shortened by 10 seconds.
Best method might be to place all the clips(images) on the master video track, then add your transitions, then add your images onto the overlay(PiP) tracks, then add your audio. If the images are stills, compensate for loss of time by setting the stills times longer on the master video track, so that when you add your transitions, the amount of time lost comes back to the running time you initially invisaged.
Hope that's useful to you.
Cheers!
Neil
