Hi community,

It's a good thing to keep in mind that every problem has a solution. I'm discovering that every solution also has a problem! LOL!

I got PD365 (subscription) and it began to fail because my laptop did not have enough space. I got an external drive and linked it to dropbox (as my last external drived crashed and took lots with it).

I moved all existing videos to the external drive so that they would be backed up by dropbox.

But I was in a hurry and did not know how to change the default file storage that PD365 creates when we are making the videos. So I left it where it was.

Now I have two challenges:

  1. The videos I moved to the external drive show up as "empty" --meaning PPD can't find the media in them. What can I do in the easiest, most simple way to relink videos and images?

2. I need to change the default location of PD365 and/or where it stores its default media during editing. Otherwise, I'll be out of space in the laptop pretty soon again. BUT it makes me nervous to place the software itself in the external drive. I don't want it to go the way my files went when my last external drive crashed.

So how can I have the software and keep the files together both during editing and afterwards? What should and shouldn't I moved to the external drive?

So, again, I need to keep files together both for the ones I already moved and the ones I'm editing now.

Also, I'm in the middle of a launch and I have no extra time, so it's got to be easily and quickly done.

Miracles, anyone?):

Thanks a lot!
Maria Mar

WOW! That is super-handy. THANKS!

I fixed my glitch the use of the D key is for when to copy, if you just want to change places, just drag.
I don't understand, (padlock) block track 3, that only locks the track, it can't do anything.
The (eye) turns off the track and what's on it disappears.

Yes, that's what I'm saying. Once I move or copy a clip from Track 3 to Track 1, even if it is visible at the beginning, when I padlock track 3, it goes blank on track 1!! It's as if it is still part of the source video and cannot stand on its own in the final video on track 1. I hope this helps to detect what could be wrong.

At this point, I had to cancel the free video I offered. I hate to not deliver, but it was to create New Year gifts and by the look of it it won't be solved this week.

This is what is happening to me with PD365. It is great and can do beautiful things. But at each step I find technical problems that delay my videos; sometimes for so long that I have to cancel. This is creating a bottleneck on my videos timeline and generating undo stress for me.

If you know of a simpler way to put clips together from my MP4 video clips into a final video, please let me know, as this problem seems to not present a solution right now.

Thanks,
MM

Seems to me you're doing the right thing.
But there are other ways to do the same.
1 - Select and drag the part of the video to the new location, release the mouse first and then the
D key
Note that in PD the tracks below overlap the ones above, but it can be set to the opposite if you are used to it.

OK. Thanks.
I did try dragging the clip instead of copy/paste. The clip was visible on Track 1 as long as Track 3 was visible. But when I locked Track 3 it again went blank. I assumed that when I completely delete track 3 it would remain blank, so that was not a solution.

I'm curious. When dragging you say "release mous first and then the D Key" -why would I have the D Key pressed? What I do is just select and drag. If I have to press the D key before, please let me know. Thanks.

My launch teacher Jeff Walker says that for every problem there is a solution and for every solution there is a problem. I subscribed because I needed to do better/longer videos. That was a solution. But I've been encountering several problems to that solution, and they are taking the same time and trouble as the old problems!! LOL!!

Thanks again,
MM

Hi,

Not quite sure I can get what's happening? I can't simulate anything like that on my system as a quick investigation.

As a start, can you provide a screenshot of your timelines, but ideally a screencapture of your editing to highlight the issue would be very useful.

For completeness can you also check your exact version of PDR [https://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/97579.page#post_box_392512]

At the moment I can't take screenshots and I'm not sure they will tell the story. Let me see if I can be more clear, but I thought I was doing something totally basic in editing. Now I'm wondering.

  1. I am recording a visual arts course. I do each step and record it in my labtop using my Camera Roll app. So I end up with lots of small video clips, one for each step.

  2. Now I am editing a video to put these clips together into a course.

  3. I bring the MP4 formatted clips into the content library.

  4. Some clips need editing or I want just one part of the clip. I have not find a way of editing those clips in the content preview. Therefore, I place the clip in Track #3. That way I can see the places in the timeline that I want. I clip that part and copy/paste it into the final video that is running in Track #1.

  5. And that is when I'm running with problems, as some of those clips come up blank when I copy/paste from Track 3 to Track 1.

It seems to me that teachers with how-to courses that need demonstration would do this often, so it should not be that obscure... unless there is an easier way to do this that I haven't seen!!

So basically I'm cutting video clips I made in my computer and adding them together to create a final video. How would you do this in an easier way? That may help me, (if there is an easier way.)

Thanks,
MM
Hi,

I've been using PowerDirector for several years for free and purchased PowerDirector 365 last year.

I am editing a video from video clips I recorded with my webcam using my camera roll app, MP4 format. I've done this before.

Since I cannot edit directly in the preview window ~that I know, I bring the video from the media content onto track #3 and then clip and copy/paste the parts I want to Track #1 for the final video. I've done this before also.

But in this particular video when I do this, the video clip in Track #1 is blank. Not all of it. The last part is visible. Not always. Some clips are fine. But as I keep editing it's happening too often, so I'm stuck.

I tried to not copy/paste, but to take the clipped part from the source video and move it directly to where I want it in track #1. It looked fine... until I locked track 3. Then the clip in track #1 went blank.

I'm at a loss on how to edit this video. Is there another way to do it?

I am super behind with this video, that was for a New Year event I had planned!

I appreciate your help as soon as possible!

Thanks,
MM
Quote Hi Maria,
The DXDiag.txt files shows that your computer is within the specs for PD, but it does not leave too much capacity for the more advanced video edit changes. So as soon as you start changing the things you wrote about, PD and your PC struggle to get things right. I see that the screen resolution although within the PD specs, is a bit low, same is true for the CPU. The 1Tb harddisk has only 37.2 Gb space left. Depending on how you have configured the PC, it may struggle to find space to work within. And because it is a good old (real) harddisk, files may be fragmented which may contribute to the slowness.

My suggestions:
1) try with a small portion of your video (to save time), to do the hing you need to do, and then produce this clip and see whether the video and sound are correct. It may very be (as the moderator already noticed) that your PC is too slow to keep up with all the changes and display them correctly in the preview screen. But still makes a good production.
2) you can set the preview screen quality to as low as possible. that will help a bit to see what your editing has done.
3) you can defragment your harddisk and also run the windows cleaner to make some space and speed. Also look at what files can be dropped or deleted (or copied to another disk)
The changes will give you a bit more space, but will still waste your time.

but all in all, if you indeed need to make several videos this week (?), it would be better to look for a newer PC, that has a faster CPU, a faster disk (SSD, not HD) with a bit more space to work in, and maybe also a screen with higher resolution.

Thanks!

I'll ask my IT to do as much cleaning as possible. Sorting through files may need to wait, but I have some time later on assigned for Dropbox maintenance and maybe we can do it there.

The bummer is that I purchased a $59 yearly video editor tool but can't use it to full capacity unless I purchase a labtop that costs thousands of dollars! That does not seem cost effective at this time, but let me keep an open mind because sometimes growth requires new investments when we had not planned for them.

I think the information you gave me will help my IT and he may come up with other ideas or understand how to help me free some more space.

Thanks for your time and your prompt response!

Quote Hello,

It really sounds like your computer is struggling and may not meet the requirements for the latest version of PowerDirector. See this forum FAQ for suggestions: https://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/97580.page#post_box_392520

Please also provide the requested information so users can get an idea of your setup, especially by providing your DXDiag file:

Is there any incompatibility or insufficiency that I need to address?

Thanks so much!!
Hi!

I'm new here. Just got the PD 365 today. I need some troubleshooting help.

For some reason, my studio light today is dark and the videos are not coming out well.

Until now, I have been using a free old version of PowerDirector (I think it's #12, just imagine!!) and I had not used fix/enhance before, so I tried it for the video I had just recorded to see if I could fix the lighting problem.

I also used the audio denoiser.

When I ran the video again, it stuttered here and there and as a result, the audio was lagging. They were not in sync anymore.

It was the first time I've had this issue and I had this trial PD for years now.

I tried the video in the Camera App where I had recorded it and the video ran well. (WIndows 10). That disabused my suspiricion that something had happened to the app or the labtop.

I recorded again in Zoom and then opened the video on the old trial PD, and it was running well until I used fix/enhanced. That disabused my notion that the Camera App (which I install some weeks ago) and the old PD were incompatible.

Since I had tried to purchase the current version of PD last week and the purchase had some problems and did not go through, I decided to purchase again, hoping that the problem was due to it being a trial and an old version of PD.

After I downloaded the manager and installed all the programs, I opened PD 365.

I imported the video and ran it. It was fine.

I used Fix/Enhance, the video and the audio.

I ran the video again, and it was stuttering and the audio out of sync.

I undid the audio changes, but the video stayed out of sync.

The stuttering is not everywhere, but in certain spots. It seems that the video stutters because in some place the action accelerates a couple of seconds. However, this is enough to unsync the entire audio from that point on.

I have to do several videos this week, so I can not afford to waste time, and I do need to fix the lighting in the videos. Please advise what could have caused the hitch in the video and how to fix it or how to avoid it.

I am a content creator and have used the basic features of PD 12 for years. I just downloaded PD365. I am not a video editor. So please keep it simple!

Thanks,
Maria
