Does anyone know the current demo version? Does it contain the patch?

Thanks.
This was really a curiosity question. I don't have a Blu-Ray writer.
You can still make a AVCHD HD disc, with your standard burner and a regular DVD-R disc. That will play on any home Bluray player, and looks almost as good as actual Bluray. But you are limited to about 35 minutes per disc, so you will need to keep your projects less then that. Great for HD photo slide shows
I did that for a year, until i got a Bluray burner. BTW: Bluray burners are down to $75 now on newegg.

Been using IMGBURN for years with Bluray and SD-DVD files. It's the best out there and its FREE. Easy to use and I have never had a coaster from it. When you select the Bluray folder, it "knows" that you want to product a Bluray disc, and auto adjust everything for you. Same for SD-DVD and AVCHD.

Kevin,
Can you give me the procedure for "activating" of the various parts and codecs of PD? I understand it to be a tedious process. Or point me to another post, that explians that.
Pinnacle does it all in one shot.

Randy,
I used Pinnacle Studio for many years and was always frustrated by its bugs, but I didn't want to pay for a high-priced editor like Vegas or Premiere. They finally solved most of the stability problems in Pinnacle v14. I started using PD at v7 and liked its stability and speed, but it was behind Pinnacle in features. I used both products for several years, and PD advanced much more rapidly than Pinnacle, with features such as 64bit, hardware acceleration, multiple timelines, and so on. Eventually PD9 became my main editor. Now that Pinnacle is owned by Avid, I notice that they are pushing Avid Studio, and so I expect Pinnacle Studio to eventually become dormant. I might pick up a copy of Avid just to see how it compares to PD, but on paper I think PD looks better. It's too bad that PD seems to have taken a step backward in the PD9 to PD10 transition. I hope they can resolve the performance problems quickly. Also, it would be neat if PD included a feature to convert Pinnacle projects to PD.
I havebeen using Ps for years. I have PS14. I got Avid Studio, earlier this year. Way too many bugs, and the 1.1 patch (only patch release all year) introduces many more, without resolving any. I can't even complete a wedding video project with it, so i have been using PS14 all year. Many unhappy people there. But that has lead me (for the fisrt time) on a search for a replacment.
PD seems to have a much better track record in at least trying to patch. I see that PD 9 had several.

I disabled the multiple thumbnail feature, since that was (and still is) a notorious time-waster in Pinnacle Studio, which I used before PD. Pinnacle refers to it as "scene detection." Disabling it in PD10 improved timeline performance a little, but it's still slower than PD9. Pop-ups are slow in PD10 whether the thumbnail feature is on or off.
Dave,
I am also thinking of switching from Pinnacle Studio. What are your comments (positive and negative) on the switch from AS to PD? Feature and ourput quality comparrison?

Thanks again, Kevin and Jeff.
BTW Kevin, I am an avid fisherman. But living in Kentucky, of course it's freshwater. But I have been deep sea fishing in Florida many times.

Another question please.
Does PD9 (and 10) allow me to create a BD (bluray) export file, to save and burn at a later date? I use IMGBURN to burn all my Bluray disc.
|
|
Does PD 9 and 10 both support BD (bluray) output files, for burning bluray disc at a later time? I want to just create an BD output file, and burn with IMGBURN at a later date.

So.......... is PD10 ultra designed toward Pinnacle Studio (consumer) type of customers or more toward Avid Studio (prosumer) ?
I am just starting to investigate PD, and trying to find the market comparison for PD.

Hi Randy -
I guess you're asking about PowerDirector 10, since it's advertised with Romance Pack Vol 3. I don't have PD10, but would assume Vol 1 & 2 would be totally compatible with it. They're just DVD menus.
BTW, this is the PhotoDirector forum. The PD10 forum is here... http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/forums/show/99.page You already know that!
Cheers - Tony
Tony, yes I discovered I posted in incorrect forum. Thanks for answering.

I don't have TM90 footage. I don't have any HDV tape footage.
tm90 is exact same format as TM900, so it should work. But I was actually refering to the 1080P (vs 1080i) footage. Many programs have trouble with that. Surely it still imports and allows HD tape?

Hi Members,
PowerDirector has been launched today, wow that was a surprise to me, ha ha.
I have been using PowerDirector 10 for the last couple of months and I'm really pleased with the new features. One of which is Intelligent SVRT and it now handles my mp4's. I used it with a good number of formats, not everyone's. JL's canon footage was super, the Panasonic HD footage I have was no problem.
Anyway, I'm sure you'll all fire some questions onto the forum.
PowerDirector 9 and 10 can reside on the same computer.
Have fun.
Dafydd
How about footage from Canon HV 30 (HD tape) and Panasonic TM90 (1080P)?

Will Romance packs 1 & 2 work correctly on PD10? I know it comes with RP3.

Hi Randy,
I do have one more questions concernig using the USB drive as storage. In my current workflow, I keep (organized) ALL my imported files (video and photo, and additional audio, as well as rendered and project files) on my usb 2.0 drive, under the job name (example:Joe and Joans wedding).
If you aren't having a problem, then it isn't an issue for you. But others have commented on having stuttering problems when viewing the preview window during editing when their High Definition video files are streaming through a USB 2.0 connection. I think on some systems it serves as a bottleneck and the large amounts of information don't flow quick enough, causing stuttering of the video during playback. There are other reasons for stuttering, but this has been shown to be a potential problem.
Your current work flow sounds good to me, just don't move where you "original" video clips reside. PD will prompt you to search (browse) for them when you open a project. PD stores the location of the video files within the pds file and if they aren't there be sure to browse for them and then save the project again. This will place the new location within the file and you won't have any further problem.
You might want to also investigate using the PACK PROJECT feature found in PD. Once you have completed a project just click on FILE....EXPORT....PACK PROJECT MATERIALS. Then select or create a destination folder and PD will place copies of all the video, pictures and audio files within this folder for reopening at a later date. It does chew up disc space if your files are large and lengthy, but it can save you the aggravation of misplacing something. This is a work flow that some editors employ to put everything in a single folder. Easily backed up to a disc or other removable media and then reopened on another PC if needed. One note: It does NOT save the UNUSED video, pictures and audio files found in the media Room. So it is not the best method to use MID project. When you reopen the project the UNUSED media will not be found in the Media Room. Make Sense?
Kevin

Kevin,
I really appreciate your time to answer my questions. I do understand. I look forward to trying PD10 sometime soon. I need to finish up some current projects first, so I can dedicate some time to try to learn PD10 basic features.
I am monitoring this forum now, and reading a lot of post.
Again, thanks.

I do have one more questions concernig using the USB drive as storage. In my current workflow, I keep (organized) ALL my imported files (video and photo, and additional audio, as well as rendered and project files) on my usb 2.0 drive, under the job name (example:Joe and Joans wedding). This makes a very organized workflow. And when the drive is full, I simply replace with another. This way all my files are kept in one place, should I need that project again. Currently this works perfectly for importing, assembling on timeline, editing and project file export. I currently use IMGBURN for buring all projects.
The usb 2.0 drive does not currently cause any issues. Can you please further explain the issues that this would cause with PD 9 or 10?

Do Romance packs 1 & 2 work corretly with PD10?

Thanks captain.
I noticed that PD 10 just came our. What timing!! I will try that demo.
BTW: Pinnacle/Avid says more ram does NOT help with their softwarem, its still 32 bit based.
Money is not an issue, I need need prosumer software that works, and has the features that I need, for my wedding videos. I plan to settle on something by end of year.
Again, thanks.

Hello guys. Thinking about purchasing (actually downloading the trial first) PD 9 ultra 64 bit. A long time user of Pinnacle, (currently PS14, and Avid Studio V1.1). I film and produce (3 camera, multi audio, photos) wedding videos, as well as other work. My finished products are mostly SD-DVD and Bluray.
Current (home built)system specs:
AMD3 x4 - 3.2
4 gig memory
ATI 67xx 1 gig GPU
bluray burner
multi 1gig HD, and external usb drives for storage.
W7 pro x64
HD Video cameras: Cannon HV30( 1080i HD tape), Sony HC7(1080i HD tape), Panasonic TM-90 (1080P and 1080i)
I curently use S14, as the new Avid Studio. But AS1.1 is a total mess, with many many serious flaws. There has onyl been 1 patch, and it actually made the software worst. PD seems to patch fairly often, which seems like a good thing. The feeling over at Pinnacle forums, is that Avid should have build ( a more upscale version) on the S14 or S15 success, instead of recreating from scratch (Avid Studio 1). I purchased AS1 for the extra video tracks, as well as other upgraded features and effects.
Just looking for usage comments from the pros here.
Anyway, I have a few questions.
1. Does PD9 have "ticks" for previously used video clip, as well as photos? Can you tell what you have already used in the project?
2. How is the Bluray output quality?
3. Anyone here moved from P-Studio or Avid-Studio? How simular are the software?
4. Learning curve?
5. See any issues with my system? ( I have hardware and software IT experience)
6. What is version life cycle of PD, or when would next version be due?
7. Can PD handle video from all the above camcorders?
Thank you for your responces, comments and advice.

1. Make sure your HV is set to 30i or 60i, and NOT 24p or cinemode.
2. Set your PD project to 1440x1080, 30i or 60i. This elliminates conversions within PD, and makes your editing/rendering faster.
3. You can output to either SD ro HD.
If your current project is not set to 1440x1080i, you would have to start a new project to change these settings.

Hello to everyone. First post here. I am actually a long time Pinnacle S14UC user, and post regulary on the pinnacle forum. I don't have PD (yet).
I am just surfing forums, to check out other software. Its unclear if Pinnacle will have a future version or update to S14.
I am a part time videographer. I mainly do weddings, parties and some promo videos for companies. My output is 75% SD and 25% AVCHD (on DVD-R or DVD+R DL) For personal use its 100% AVCHD. I use a lot of photos in my projects also.
I am posting here, because I have a Canon HV30 and am vary familar with many of the issues you mention here. maybe I can shed some light.
* The Canon HV (20-30-40) tape series are great HD camcorders, but are a last of the bread. Many believe their quality to be the best of all consumer camcorders.
* There is a known problem with Firewire and Windows 7. Its not related to any specific camcorder, or software. Its a firewire driver issue with W7. Once you get that resolved, you are fine. I have Windows XP, with no problems.
* The resolution of all canon HV tape units are 1440x1080. Always record in the HDV, interlaced, settings.
* In PD, it would be best to use the same project setting, as your HV, which is 1440x1080i.
* When recordong with your HV40, set it to 30i or 60i, and you will get better overall quality. Not many people actually use the 24P setting, or cinemode.
* When you output your project in PD, you can output to either SD or HD (AVCHD or bluray).
Hope this helps.
