Thank you, I saw the hint "H.264 encode only on Windows 7 OS or specifc hardware" - but took it seriously that only encoding is not possible under Vista. So I tried only to import an AVCHD clip, but even that failed. If this is the reason then I would expect that they state that import, playback and export of H.264 is only possible on ...
But beside that I used the trial version of PD 7 and PD 8 under the same Vista & hardware and had no problems importing, playing and exporting AVCHD clips. So I expected Cyberlink not to remove features/functions that worked well in previous versions.
Anyway, did someone try if PD 10 can work with PD 8 created projects and if PD 10 supports DTS audio format?

There's a trial of PD 10 without AVCHD support (when importing an AVCHD clip PD 10 tells me, that this version does not support AVCHD), altough the product specification page under chapter Video Camcorder Support states:
"If your camcorder or format is not on the list it may still be compatible with PowerDirector, so please feel free to download the free trial to test your camcorder and file formats."
I beg they laugh about customers like me who tried that aut.
But how can I test, if me last big project created under PD 8 Ultra (and using AVCHD of course) can be continued under PD 10?
How can I test, if audio format DTS is really working since PD 10?
How can I test, if adding longer clips is so time consuming as it was with PD 8?
Kind regards,
Herbert
PS: I use Vista SP2 32bit, 4GB RAM, AMD Athlon X64 Dual Core 2,6GHz, nVidia 8600GT

Alex,
after examining the files I think both Fujitsu updates are for OEM-Versions (maybe with reduced functionality) of PD7 exclusively sold to Fujitsu so that Fujitsu can bundle it with their hardware.
The updated files consist of some codecs, but neither the AVCHD decoder nor encoder.

Installed PD7 on Windows 7 Beta 64bit - no problem with installation and some simple tests (purpose was to test if I could use 64bit Windows in future)
But be aware, that PD7 (and PD8 as well ) are not fully ported to use the new features of Vista - even less the features of Windows 7. PD7/8 would consume much less CPU load, if Cyberlink would use the Enhanced Video Renderer instead of the old fashioned Video Mixing Renderer in PD7/8.

While PowerDVD has EVR support under Vista since Version 7.0, PowerDiretor 8 still lacks of EVR. Playback of HD in AVCHD consumes below 10% CPU usage in PowerDVD but between 70 and 90% CPU usage in PowerDirector (dual core AMD 2,6GHz, nVidia 8600GT).
Has anyone heard, if CyberLink plans to add EVR support to PowerDirector?

I wrote the support:
PowerDirector 7 uses the following libraries atl71.dll, mfc71.dll, mfc71u.dll, msvcm80.dll, msvcp80.dll, msvcr80.dll where Microsoft has issued security updates recently (Threat: remote code execution).
Microsoft has also issued a sucurity update for Visual Studio .Net 2003 until 2008, which you are also using, so that software vendors like Cyberlink can recompile and update their products with the new libraries.
When will Cyberlink issue a security or normal update, so that the libraries I listed above are replaced with the save ones?
The support answered:
In response to your issue we would like to inform you that we do not have the plan to do this.
Does this mean, that the end users have to patch PowerDirector themself?

Editing AVCHD in PD7 is fine compared to most of the other products, but be aware, that the available output formats/options is the weak point compared to the competitors. E.g.
* in avi you can select no interesting codecs
* in DivX mp3 is only support under XP and even then with limited bitrate

I learnt, that PD7 is simply restricted to this low-end resolution. It's a shame, that Cyberlink doesn't even support standard dvd-resolution (720x576) with DivX.
There is enough competition out there, which provide full-HD resolution with DivX (e.g. Pinnacle Studio 12, Adobe Premiere Elements 7).

I've PD7 trial version installed, downloaded the latest DivX 6.8.2 and installed the codec.
Then I started with a new project, set the aspect ratio to 16:9, took a sample AVCHD video from my digicam with resolution 1920x1080i and tried to create an output file with DivX (produce->Create a file->DivX). In the Video/Audio Settings the video size is gray and set to 640x360. I did also set the DivX properties under Codec Settings to Profile 1080HD and increased the bit rate to 16.000kbit/s. If I render the video, then the output is really the ridiculous 640x360 pixels. On the other hand, if I render the same project in MPEG2 or AVCHD or WMV (including creating an additional profile) then the output file has the expected 1920x1080 pixels.
What did I made wrong, that PD7 does not allow me/did not to set the video size in a DivX coded video to 1920x1080?
Thank you for your help,
Herbert
