Thanks Dafydd,

Very helpful.

Hi All,

My Sony camera records 1440 x 1080 AVCHD with Dolby 5.1 Surround sound.

In the past, I would edit the video in PD8, and then Produce an MPEG-2 file with the BD 1440 x 1080 format. I would then burn the file to a Blu-ray disk with PowerProducer. Everything sounded fine under this scenario.

I received a new Blu-ray player for Christmas that plays AVCHD disks. Now, I am using the Create Disk function in PD8 and choose the AVCHD format 1440 x 1080 w/ Dolby Digital, and write to a DVD-R disk.

A weird thing happens during the transitions in these videos. The sound level becomes LOUDER during the transitions than the normal video. It is almost as if the volume of during the transition equals the volume of the first clip plus the volume of the second clip.

I have produced 3 ACVHD disks so far and have noticed it each time. I am only using 1 second transitions so this passes pretty quick, but after 60-70 times it gets pretty irritating.

Anyone else experience this? Anyone have a recommendation?

Thanks for your help.

Brady

Hi KitR

I have PD8 loaded on a desktop that all my kids use. It is not very stable. I have to remove/reload all the time.

I also have PD8 loaded on my laptop that only I use. It is very stable.

I am guessing that any instability might have something to do with my kids and not the PD8 program... Just a hunch.

Hi Nick,

That is a pretty nice video for a guy that just picked up the trial version.

I had a couple questions:

Did you answer YES to create the Shadow Edit Files question? This creates a low-res copy of the file for editing. Be sure to give the program a few minutes to create these files before you start editing.

After you started Producing the video, did you try to do anything else on your computer? This process is pretty CPU intensive. I usually get things started and walk away until it is finished.

What bitrate did you use to record the video? My camera has 3 or 4 different settings for HD. You will want to chose the highest bitrate setting when filming sports.

Those are my best guesstimates. Hope this is helpful.

Hi Max,

I use Sony's Picture Motion Browser (PMB) to upload the files from the camera to the computer's HD. This program will rename the files with a date/time stamp, and change the file extension from .mts to .m2ts. I then import the .m2ts files into PD.

Having a time/date stamp on the filename is pretty handy when you start accumulating thousands of video files over the years.

When importing AVCHD clips, be sure to answer YES to create the Shadow Edit Files. This creates a low-res copy of the file to make editing smoother.

Hope this is helpful.

Hi Max,

PD8 will handle your Sony files very well.

I have been using the Sony HDR-SR1 for a couple years. (I am assuming the E doesn't change the file type).

Good Luck!

Hi Bob,

Grouping the passing, running and defensive plays sounds like a really cool idea, but a whole lot of work for an entire season. Your target audience is probably most interested in seeing themselves. While watching your video, they will probably be thinking "Where am I?", rather than "Hey, isn't it neat that all the pass plays are grouped together".

However you decide to group them (by play or by game) you may think about putting a 1 second Fade transition between each video segment within the group, then a more elaborate 2 second transition between groups. A couple of my favorites are Fire, Grand Opening and Broken Glass.

After a great tackle, you might use the Power Tools to play the tackle clip again in reverse. You can also use Power Tools to speed up a segment and produce kind of a funny Charlie Chaplin look.

If you have some video from practice sessions early in the season, you might lead off your video with a few seconds of practice and apply the Old Movie effect from the Effects room. This will help produce a "remember where it all started" nostalgic feeling.

If you have a segment on bloopers, you could use some of the Dialog Balloons in the Title Room to say "Oops!" of something.

Good luck. You can't hardly go wrong; you are giving people a video of their favorite subject, themselves.

Hope this is helpful.

Hi CLD,

I tried to use the Power Tools in the final production (both slow-mo and reverse).

I ended up deleting the reverse clip, and then the video rendered fine; there may be a possible bug in the reverse feature.

The source video is ACVHD (.mt2s).

The output file is MPEG2.

Thanks for your help.

Hi All,

I have been successfully producing video's with PD for quite some time now.

On the most recent video, the program fails during production (to file) at about 66% complete (twice).

I looked in Control Panel's Application Log and found two entries:
----- faulting module ReversePlaySrcFilter.ax, version 1.0.0.1903
----- faulting module vmnc.dll, version 6.0.1613.0

This is the first time I have tried the Power Tools. In the video, I play a video clip normal, then I play it again using PowerTools "Video Speed" to slow it down. I then play the clip again using PowerTools "Video in Reverse".

Knowing that I used "Video in Reverse" and seeing "ReversePlay..." in the error description above got me thinking this might be related.

Anyone else encounter this problem?

Thanks,

Brady
Hi Ray,

I think you have plenty of horsepower to run PD8.

I am running PD8 on a Dell laptop w/ Core Duo running 2.2 GHz w/ 2 gigs of ram (Vista). Works great!

Thanks!

I see. Two video clips overlap.

Always wondered about this.

Hi All,

I was working on a video project that contained 87 video clips on the Timeline (football game-American).

Initially, the total length of the video was 18:22:29.

At this point, I went into Transitions and selected the "Add Fading Transition to All" from the dropdown. (I have the Transitions duration set to 1 second).

After applying the Fading, the length of the video was 16:56:13.

I would have thought that the video would get 86 seconds longer, but it appears to have been shrunk by 86 seconds.

Where did the video go?

Thanks,
Brady
Hi OTW,

Ipconfig /release and /renew is a great idea; I was very hopeful on this one. Unfortunately, it did not work.

I opened a support ticket w/ CL, but would love to hear anyone else's ideas while I am awaiting a response.

Thanks for all your help.

In spite of this one weird issue, PD8 appears to be an awesome product. I've been using the product since PD5. In PD8, they added a few more features, and really cleaned up the user interface in a couple areas.

Well, I tried doing the clean uninstall, but after uninstalling PD, I experienced the following:

1. PD is missing from Windows Installer Cleanup list (Interestingly, after installation of PD8, "PowerDirector [7.00.0000]" shows up on the list.

2. The C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{CB099890-1D5F-11D5-9EA9-0050BAE317E1} folder does not exist

3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CyberLink\PowerDirector is empty.

It appears that the uninstall (on vista anyway) appears to be doing good housekeeping.

I still cannot connect to YouTube without first connecting the VPN.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Hi All,

I think I finally figured this out.

When I initially installed PD, I had a VPN connection established to my workplace.

Now, if I connect the VPN, PD will register fine and communicates to YouTube fine. When I disconnect the VPN, this communication stops working. PD must remember the path through which it was originally communicating.

This is not ideal. I need to connect to YouTube without the VPN. I tried normal uninstall and reinstall, but this did not work.

I will try the uninstall/cleanup the registry next.

Thanks for all your help.

Brady
Hi OTW,

I rebooted the router, but still have the same problem.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks for your help.

Brady
Tony,

Yes, I can sign into Director Zone fine.

Cranston,

The "Automatically check for software updates" is checked.

What is next?

Thanks for your help.

Brady
Hi Tony,

1. Yes.
2. Yes.
3. Yes, works fine.

I don't mind answering the obvious. Sometimes we have to eliminate the obvious to get the real problem (does the printer have paper?).

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I a running Vista, PowerDirector 8.

Brady

Hi All,

I just upgraded to PD8 and am experiencing the following issues:

I created a new video and am trying to upload to YouTube. I immediately get a message "Cyberlink PowerDirector could not get a response from the server."

Also, when I try to register the software, I get the message "You are not currently connected to the Internet"

I don't know if these two are related, but PD cannot seem to find my internet connection.

Thanks for all your help,

Brady
Hey Dafydd,

Is there a similar uninstall procedure for PowerProducer?

Thanks,
Brady
Thanks Dafydd.

That did the trick!
