PowerDirector 7 build 2726 Update

Hi,

I was running the PowerDirector 7 build 2726 update.

On my Vista laptop, where PD is installed on Drive C:, the installation went fine.

When I ran the update on my XP desktop, where PD is installed on drive G:, the install program wanted me to uninstall PD first.

I don't think I should have to uninstall PD for this update. Could this be an XP glitch, or possibly because PD is installed on drive G: ?

Thanks for your help.

Installing software on a drive other then "C" is generally a bad idea. Drive "C" is generally assumed in the software industry to be the default drive for all programs. This all goes way back in PC history. Is this the first time you've run an update on this computer? Also be sure to see the sticky at the top of this forum about the magic motion fix.

Thanks James,

Can I install PowerDirector on C: and still have all the video files stored on G: ?

I thought there was a problem this this, but maybe it has been resolved.

Install PD on drive C. That will ensure you do not have any problems on that end. As for video, you may use any drive you want. My suggestion is for you to use one drive for the source video and another drive as the destination video. This will lesson the possibility of a data bottleneck (imagine a garden hose with water entering both ends) and may improve rendering speed. In my case I use drive C for programs and source video and drive E for backup videos and the production folder. Q9300 2.5 GHz

Well, I uninstalled PowerDirector off the G: drive and re-installed on the C: drive.

I went to run the update again and the program asked me if I want to uninstall PowerDirector again.

I deleted the update file and went to download a fresh copy and discovered that build 3017 was available. I downloaded it. I tried to run the updated and it also asks if I want to Uninstall PowerDirector.

I am cornfused

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated,

Brady

Hi Brady,
You'll need to clean up your registry. Take a look at the following "stuff".

I have just written all the instructions up for another member, I'll refer you to the post.

Hey Dafydd,

Is there a similar uninstall procedure for PowerProducer?

Thanks,
Brady
