Do you plan your videos in advance? I.e. create a storyboard before you ever go and pick up the camera?

I confess that as a newbie, I shoot everything that moves and then try to turn it into something on the computer. Not a good idea.
In Menu Designer:
Quote:
I pick a template and click modify. I make some changes, for example I change 'My Video' to 'Tims Video' and want to save it. Whether I click 'Save' or 'Save As' it takes me to "Save As Template", asks me for a name, offers that mysterious slider that appears to have no effect and then creates a new menu image on the left panel. I end up with a bunch all named the same. When I click any one of them, none of my changes is there. I am back to 'My Video'.

So what am I doing wrong here?
I solved the background sound by the simple expedient of editing the default file, "Sport.mp3' , cutting the volume down to nothing and replacing it in the Cyberlink folder. It still plays, but is inaudible. Talk about a fudge!
Carl. Thanks for the reply. I would be happy having a series of pages with buttons that link to each song. I can always hit the "Menu" button on the DVD player remote to get back to the menu at the end of a song.

I have been futzing with Menu Designer for quite some time and I am still nowhere. I think I can make button images that show the song title.

The Help files say I can double click on text to change it but that does not work.

I also have to turn off the background music every time.

I am missing some fundamental philosophy of how this thing works and what the various components mean and how they relate to one another. Such as Scenes page in Preview is the Titles page in Menu Designer; in a Chapters page I can navigate through my titles (From Help:Creating Discs:Selecting a disc menu)

I am beginning to feel like Danny Kave in "The Court Jester": The pellet with the poison's in the flagon with the dragon; the vessel with the pestle has the brew that is true.

Here is the scenario: At a recent gig I set up my GoPro camera and let it run. I took the resulting .AVI files and split them up into separate .MP4 files for each song we played, with a title that names the song. Now I would like to create a playable DVD that starts with a "menu" that lists each of the songs by name and upon selection, plays the song, then returns to the menu.

Sorta kinda like this:

Title= "Deacon Blues Gig
Song1="Amie"
Song2="Friend of the Devil"
et al.

(Only without the "Songn" part).

As there are 25 songs, I guess the menu must go to multiple pages.

I have been puzzling through the Help manual and have got nowhere.

I have PowerDirector Ultra v 10.0.0.1703 and a new, super-duper computer with 8 processor thingies and lots of RAM and disk space and Windows 7.

Hello everyone! I have just purchased a new high-falutin' computer and I am waiting for the install of PD 10 ultra.

Meanwhile, I have a question: Is there a way in PowerDirector 10 to remove the fisheye effect that one gets with the GoPro Hero 2 camera?

Um, if so, what is it?
I made one clip with Windows Movie Maker but after that I had problems with jerky sound and jerky action.

No, I did not update the video drivers.

I have Nero 8 installed and successfully made a second video using that 'old' program. I guess it is a generation thing - old computers need old software so that we old users can use 'em. I will try messing with this for a while.

Again, thanks, everyone, for your sage advice.

Tim
Wow. I shared all the specs with my tame computer guru and he suggested a new computer! I really do not want to spend $700 + for this. All I need to do is import a few clips, select out the shots I want and string 'em together with the odd title and a music track. After all, I do not want to be a video editor. I just want to make a video of my band and of rides on my scooter.

Can anyone suggest a Video Editor Lite program? I came across Machete Video Editor Lite. Looks close.

Thank you for your patience with me.

Tim

Probably not an issue that requires, or will be helped by, a re-install.

1. Your motherboard has a 4GB limit, consider adding MAX Memory.
2. Go to the Intel site and find an update for your video drivers, they are 7 years old.
3. Consider adding a dedicated Video card (but this may require a Power Supply Upgrade).
4. The machine is FAR below the necessary requirements for PD10. It will operate (maybe) but you will see "issues".
5. You might try turning OFF (in PD Preferences) "Use Hardware Acceleration", and see if that helps.

Fred, thank you for taking the time to analyze my complaint. I guess as 'my baby is ugly' I had better look to an upgrade.

Edit: At least it was not an "ID ten T" error...
I spent some time editing before I tried to 'produce'. Aside from the one shot that gave me the interrupted, i.e. jerky, sound and picture, it hung at 99 or 100% from the start.

Do y'all think that a re-install will help?

The computer has a Intel Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHx, but 'only' 1Gig of RAM. Per the Task Manager it has the usual heap of processes, 65 at last count. Lots of hard drive.
To paraphrase Pooh, I am a bass player of Very Little Brain and Big Words bother me.
I purchased the GoPro Hero 2 hoping to A. Record my band, and B. Record some rides on my Vespa.
The input files are from the GoPro CineForm Studio conversion. I did make one clip using Windows Movie Maker

Subsequent efforts gave me trouble so I thought I'd get the software most recommended for video editing.
I upgraded it to 1703.
I have run Eusing and Registry Booster 2 several times to clean stuff up.
I have attached a screen shoot. To get it under 100k I used Adobe Photosho Elements 10 which saved it as a .GIF

Thank y'all for your kind responses.
My first thought is to uninstall and re-install pd10.

1. Which operating system do you use, W7, Vista, XP?
XP Professional

2. Which version of PD, See Part A below
10.0.0.1703

3. Which SR number (available in the "About" box of PD and is NOT the CD-Key!)
VDE 120314-03

4. What kind of video source material used (codec / container), extension? We often ask for a 5 to 10 second sample , please provide one as an attachment.
Huh? GoPro ->Cineform Studio

5. A detailed step by step description of the problem. See Part D below.
I click on produce. It goes to 100% and hangs

6. What anti-virus solution is installed on your PC?
Avast!

7. What codec packs installed? See PD's Readme html file
8. What other video editing programs are installed - just in case there is a software conflict.
9. What burning software is installed on your PC?
Nero

10. What type of blank disk was used, if you have a burning create issue?
11. What background processes / programs running (especially important for problems with the burning)?
12. Provide the dxdiag log file as an attachment, see Part B below

Attached (I hope)
Having taken 12 minutes to 'produce' a 4 minute film pd10 hangs at 99% or 100%. It does this on both .AVI and .WMV files.

The one time it ended, the video and the audio were jerky (.AVI).

Plus, the black square from the prevue pane (top right of screen) stays black when I switch to other programs or the desktop.

I searched and noticed that hanging seems to be quite a habit of this program.

Any advice?
