I'd like some advice on creating menus
[Post New]
Here is the scenario: At a recent gig I set up my GoPro camera and let it run. I took the resulting .AVI files and split them up into separate .MP4 files for each song we played, with a title that names the song. Now I would like to create a playable DVD that starts with a "menu" that lists each of the songs by name and upon selection, plays the song, then returns to the menu.

Sorta kinda like this:

Title= "Deacon Blues Gig
Song1="Amie"
Song2="Friend of the Devil"
et al.

(Only without the "Songn" part).

As there are 25 songs, I guess the menu must go to multiple pages.

I have been puzzling through the Help manual and have got nowhere.

I have PowerDirector Ultra v 10.0.0.1703 and a new, super-duper computer with 8 processor thingies and lots of RAM and disk space and Windows 7.

Have you seen the Powerdirector Menu Design tips?

http://www.cyberlink.com/stat/product-tutorial/enu/powerdirector/7/menudesigntips.jsp

It was created for Powerdirector 7, but little has changed since this manual was written.

You can create you own background for the menu pages, but you are limited to a Main Page with "Play" and "Scenes" and Scenes pages.

The scenes pages are limited to a maximum of 6 Items or 4 Items depending on DVD or BluRay.

Design tips refers to TEXT links, the only Text links are associated with motion thumbnails.
If you are wanting a TEXT link only, not going to happen in a Powerdirector Menu System.

Carl. Thanks for the reply. I would be happy having a series of pages with buttons that link to each song. I can always hit the "Menu" button on the DVD player remote to get back to the menu at the end of a song.

I have been futzing with Menu Designer for quite some time and I am still nowhere. I think I can make button images that show the song title.

I pick a template and click modify. I make some changes, for example I change 'My Video' to 'Tims Video' and want to save it. Whether I click 'Save' or 'Save As' it takes me to "Save As Template", asks me for a name, offers that mysterious slider that appears to have no effect and then creates a new menu image on the left panel. I end up with a bunch all named the same. When I click any one of them, none of my changes is there. I am back to 'My Video'.

The Help files say I can double click on text to change it but that does not work.

I also have to turn off the background music every time.

I am missing some fundamental philosophy of how this thing works and what the various components mean and how they relate to one another. Such as Scenes page in Preview is the Titles page in Menu Designer; in a Chapters page I can navigate through my titles (From Help:Creating Discs:Selecting a disc menu)

I am beginning to feel like Danny Kave in "The Court Jester": The pellet with the poison's in the flagon with the dragon; the vessel with the pestle has the brew that is true.

I solved the background sound by the simple expedient of editing the default file, "Sport.mp3' , cutting the volume down to nothing and replacing it in the Cyberlink folder. It still plays, but is inaudible. Talk about a fudge! Custom computer: 8 processors, 16G Ram, ,C: drive 250G solid state. F: (Scratch drive) 2x 500Gb raid (0). G: (Data drive) 2Tb raid (1)

Some may call that a 'Fix'.

So what am I doing wrong here? Custom computer: 8 processors, 16G Ram, ,C: drive 250G solid state. F: (Scratch drive) 2x 500Gb raid (0). G: (Data drive) 2Tb raid (1)

You can not change the "My Video"
You can not change the place holders: Place Holders are 'Item n'

The only real changes you may make to the Template is the Background image and how many Place holders there are on the Scenes Pages. There are Detail changes that you can make to the Template, that are not worth the effort in my opinion.

You can making a Template.

In the Create menu module you can Edit the Title of your Movie.

You can change the "My Video" to the Title of your Movie.
Click in the Text box where "My Video" is and delete it, add your movie title.

You can change the "My Video" on each scenes page in the project.
You can edit the postiton of the Chapters/Titles. (Click on one, Drag with Mouse).
