After a bit more research, I'm convinced these cables will not work with Windows 10. You need a 1394 card. Some forums indicate that an express card also works but I don't have one to test.
Cyberlink support has been pathetic. First they asked me for various diagnostics, which I provided, and then they came back with a boilerplate reply about the known restrictions, none of which apply in my case...

I was hoping to capture all my tapes, do a first pass with heavy trimming and export to DV-AVI again lossesly so that I can edit whenever I have time. But I'm giving up. I'll capture everything on my old laptop and edit/produce one by one using the new laptop.

BTW, I did a lot of testing converting DV-AVI, and the MKV H.264 AVC profile "AVC 720 x 480 / 60i (8 Mbps)" yielded by far the best quality, I guess because it matches closely my DV-AVI format. It's visibly way better than MP4 for only 10-20% extra space, and it played smoothly on TV, PC, Android and iPhone (using VLC).

Thanks everyone who replied!
Quote AVI is not supported by svrt.

The appendix of the PD15 user guide says (section section Intelligent SVRT: When Is Used?):

"Intelligent SVRT can be applied to video clips in the MPEG-1, MPEG-2, H.264 and DVAVI(Type I) formats."
Hi all,

1) I installed a trial version of PD15 on my old laptop, which has a 1394 port. PD15 captures the DV video as MPEG2 and offers no option to choose a profile. Is this true for the licensed version too? I want to capture it as DV-AVI. I have no way to verify because my licensed copy is installed on a brand new laptop that does not have 1394.

Note that this is no an issue with the 1394 card. I installed a trial version of Vegas and it captures AVI no problem.

2) Regarding the lack of 1394 card on the new laptop, do anyone have experience using a 1394-to-USB cable like these below?

Thanks!
Hi all,

I've trying to get SVRT working with DV-AVI (both type 1 and 2) with no success. The clip satisifes all SVRT requirements listed in the user guide (several minutes long, no edits, etc.).

I even tried producing it to AVI first with PD, then import it back and try SVRT, again no luck. I've attached a screenshot and the media info output for this clip.

I'm using PowerDirector 15 Ultimate 15.0.2309.0

Thanks!
Quote I had submit this issue to support also.

They responded today "Regarding your concern, I would like to inform you that the we are able to reproduce the issue and engineers are assigned to check it.".

As soon as they post a fix/resolution, I will share it with you all.

Did the fix the issue? I'm having similar problem with NTSC DV using PowerDirector 15. Thx.
I'm trying to use Intelligent SVRT with PowerDirector 15 (licensed) for an iFLY video. When I click the
Intelligent SVRT button, it shows me a custom profile but the Apply button is disabled. The video is 30 minutes long and I've made no changes (basically I'm trying to get it working with producing the video as is first).

Note that I've used SVRT successfully for a different video generated by a GoPro (custom profile suggested and applied).

These are the iFLY video attributes as reported by PowerDirector:

File type: MP4

Video:

  • Type: H.264 AVC

  • Bitrate: 3.14 Mbps

  • Resolution: 1280x720

  • Frame rate: 14.99 fps

  • Aspect ratio: 16:9

  • Profile: High Profile

  • Frame type: Progressive

Audio:

  • Type: ACC

  • Sampling rate: 44kHz

  • Bitrate: 151Kbps

  • Channel: Stereo

Any ideas?

Thanks.
For long videos, most of my trims are done between clips without transitions using CUT-ONLY edits. When I decide how much to trim from the beginning or the end of a clip, I'd like to be able to review a few seconds of the two adjacent clips in order to ensure a seamless transition WITHOUT LEAVING THE TRIM WINDOW.
