No SVRT for DV-AVI

Hi all,

I've trying to get SVRT working with DV-AVI (both type 1 and 2) with no success. The clip satisifes all SVRT requirements listed in the user guide (several minutes long, no edits, etc.).

I even tried producing it to AVI first with PD, then import it back and try SVRT, again no luck. I've attached a screenshot and the media info output for this clip.

I'm using PowerDirector 15 Ultimate 15.0.2309.0

Thanks!

Quote AVI is not supported by svrt.

The appendix of the PD15 user guide says (section section Intelligent SVRT: When Is Used?):

"Intelligent SVRT can be applied to video clips in the MPEG-1, MPEG-2, H.264 and DVAVI(Type I) formats."

Well I layed an egg there for sure, DV is so outdated, I should have double-checked on that. As for WHY it is failing to function with your clips, I do not know. You can always upload a short clip or 2 and see if we can test and get the same results, or not.

I also tried in PD13, with both AVI type1 and Windows AVI and neither triggered SVRT.

I remember answering similar questions about dv-avi in the past and find that they do work well in older versions of svrt like the non intelligent one where both the video and the audio must be set correctly for svrt to work say in PD8 and earlier. It may also work in the later versions of PD if windows 10 is not the operating system used. See the attachments.

Unfortunately dv-avi may have to be a casualty today like mov, mpeg-1 encoding, and vcd. These formats are available in the older versions of PD. Make room for progress like 4k, hevc, mkv, 60p BD, etc. 4 days later and there is no response from other users. If I use them then it is to create mpeg-2 and dvd’s. I don’t need svrt because I will not write back to dv tape for archiving that was done say 15 years ago. I deleted them after editing and creating a dvd. It cost $100 then for a 100GB hard drive to archive six 13 GB 1 hour dv tapes. With the same 28 Mbps bit rate as dv-avi we can have avchd 1920 x 1080/60p. That is progress.

None of the previous users who contacted technical support has said that they fixed it for them in these forums to my knowledge. You need to start a ticket with Cyberlink support explaining the problem and let us know what they do about it. You will get the best help.

I believe the best answer is to buy full versions of software like many users do and not upgrades so that the older software can be used even if you have to keep it on an extra non windows 10 computer.

Cyberlink support has been pathetic. First they asked me for various diagnostics, which I provided, and then they came back with a boilerplate reply about the known restrictions, none of which apply in my case...

I was hoping to capture all my tapes, do a first pass with heavy trimming and export to DV-AVI again lossesly so that I can edit whenever I have time. But I'm giving up. I'll capture everything on my old laptop and edit/produce one by one using the new laptop.

BTW, I did a lot of testing converting DV-AVI, and the MKV H.264 AVC profile "AVC 720 x 480 / 60i (8 Mbps)" yielded by far the best quality, I guess because it matches closely my DV-AVI format. It's visibly way better than MP4 for only 10-20% extra space, and it played smoothly on TV, PC, Android and iPhone (using VLC).

Thanks everyone who replied!
