Does PD15 capture from miniDV camcorder to DV-AVI?

Hi all,

1) I installed a trial version of PD15 on my old laptop, which has a 1394 port. PD15 captures the DV video as MPEG2 and offers no option to choose a profile. Is this true for the licensed version too? I want to capture it as DV-AVI. I have no way to verify because my licensed copy is installed on a brand new laptop that does not have 1394.

Note that this is no an issue with the 1394 card. I installed a trial version of Vegas and it captures AVI no problem.

2) Regarding the lack of 1394 card on the new laptop, do anyone have experience using a 1394-to-USB cable like these below?

Thanks!

I beleive that those cables can work with an old firewire drive but won't work for video transfer from a dv camcorder. See this YT video for a possible solution: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BthebohwsDk .

Let us know if this helps.

After a bit more research, I'm convinced these cables will not work with Windows 10. You need a 1394 card. Some forums indicate that an express card also works but I don't have one to test.
