Wow... you nailed it, Fenman. Thanks for the instruction, and thanks for the introduction to the keyframe mode.
Mostly, thanks for taking the time to answer my query.

Hi, everyone!
I haven't checked in for a while, but I'm refreshing my website, using PD11 again, and here I am with questions!
I want to create a slide show and one of the features I want to use is dynamically changing chromacity from gray-tones to color. I thought I had figured out how to change the chromacity of an image from color to gray-tones, but I'm not so sure, now. I know I an import a gray-tone version of the original image, but is there a way to do this 'in-house'?
It's occurred to me that I can start with a gray-tone image, and fade in (using opacity) an overlaid color image, but I can't really figure out how to overlay one image over another in a dynamic video context. I know this is possible, since this is how green-screen overlaying works.
Can anyone offer me some tips here? or point out which features I'm overlooking?
Thanks.

Just to round out this discussion, any "cropping" done on a video segment retains the chosen aspect ratio so that if a narrower image is desired, the image will also become shorter. A simple change in aspect ration will distort the image.
Does anyone know of a trick to, perhaps, black out the ends of a video before final formatting (thereby eliminating unwanted details on the periphery without losing detail in the other dimension)?

Hi, Borgus1.
Thanks for your recommendations. I found the second video to be quite helpful in explaining the process, but....
It suggests that if the video is still jumpy, the empty portions between frames can be eliminated to produce a smooth video clip.
With this in mind, I took my 8 second video clip - made from about 100 frames animating a drawing - elongated it to make the spaces visible to remove, and spent about three hours removing all the blank spots. Once done, I can't get the "slideshow" option to reappear, and the video I now have seems to be over 7 minutes in duration!
How can I compress this new video segment, and how do I get the "slideshow" tab to reappear?
Any ideas? Anyone?
Thanks.

Thanks, Borgus1.
I was comparing it to PhotoShop's method of saving any modified file as a .psd extension (which can be further worked) unless one chooses to "save as" a final form in another format.
Parallel paths to similar ends.

Hi, everyone.
I've been making "videos" from my .jpg images by adding movement, rotation, and zoom to emphasize elements in the image. When I save my work, it gets saved in a .pds extension format. When I import this .pds file, however, it is imported as the .jpg file, even though it retains all the changes I made in producing the .pds file. I'm thinking this might get confusing and wondering why the project isn't imported under the new .pds designation, permitting any additional changes to made on the new .pds file.
There must be a reason, though I can't think of one offhand. Can anyone explain this disparity to me?
Thanks,
Paul

Hi, Stan.
To my experience, later model non-widescreen TVs use a letterbox effect to display a 16:9 image. You probably know that a letterbox is a black band at the top and bottom of the screen leaving a 16:9 aspect ratio space between the bands within which a wide-screen image is played without the distortion caused by changing a video's aspect ratio.
I'm new to PowerDirector, so I'm trying to learn all the curves and wrinkles of the program, too. I would think the only other way of converting a 16:9 aspect ration to a 4:3 aspect ration (without distortion) would be to somehow lop off the ends of the widescreen image. If you figure that one out, please give me a holler and clue me in. too.
Good luck.

Solved! I enhanced my image with 3rd party software before importing into PowerDirector.
But, yeah, Jamie-esque... it does act like a bug.

Hey... thanks, everyone for your interest and your assistance and encouragement. I worked at it and finally figured it out - made it do what I wanted!
BUT... when I "fix/enhance" the image, the progression stops at my intermediate keyframe and does not pause, but terminates and returns to the first keyframe.
When I run the segment without any motion programming, the progression proceeds to the end of the segment without incident. When I "modify" the segment without enhancement, the segment proceeds (zoom, pause) just as I programmed it to do. Same thing happens if I program the motion via the Magic Motion feature.
However, when I enhance the image after programming motion, the progression stops at the first keyframe and returns to start. When I enhance without any motion programming, the progression stops its sweep at some arbitrary point along the timeline and returns to start. This happens repeatedly, even if I exit the program and start from scratch. This occurs whether I use the Magic Motion feature, or if I use the "modify" tab.
Help! What's going on here? Any ideas?

Thanks so much, gentlemen, for taking the time to instruct me how to zoom in on a photo over time, but my understanding seems to be missing at least one step.
Jamie-esque, my understanding is that I place the two images on a timeline, enlarge the second one, and link the two images. I guess I don't understand what method I should use to enlarge the second image (do I insert two seperate images, one a closeup of the other?). Nor do I understand when/how these placements are saved before playback.
Borgus, I don't understand from the video how or at which point I should save my insertions.
I'm sorry to be so slow at grasping this concept. Would it make any more sense, or be simpler, to create a video which is an extended showing of the image, then use the Power Tools to zoom in?

I'd like to zoom in on a photo and include that simulated motion into a video montage. How would I go about creating a video from a photo?

Hi, James1
Thanks for taking the time to address my query.
I'm new to this video business and a total neophyte with PD. Maybe I have my terms confused, but I would guess that you're describing an edit. I want to reduce the visible area on the whole video sequence, which I'm referring to as a crop.
I found the wherewithal to view, yet again, a PD Toots tutorial on video cropping (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Lsn369hlk and noticed - for the first time - the step that allows one to advance the video to the end of the segment one wants to crop, and select the "repeat previous frame" option. This retains the crop as set without the zoom effect.
Hey!... I just answered my own question!

I want to be able to crop my videos to remove as much unsightly stuff in the periphery as possible. When I set the size of the crop and play back on the viewer, the image slowly zooms in for the duration of the video.
Can anyone tell me how to prevent this?

Hey, Tony.
The toot you directed me to was a little too tidy, but I found http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Lsn369hlk8 in the toot link you included which may prove to be really useful.
Is there a way of trimming the two ends of a video - thereby creating a custom aspect ration - and keeping the rest of the image in proportion?
I think I have hours of entertainment, enlightenment, and perplexity awaiting me in the PD Toots link

Hi, Kevin. I think I do have them. For whatever it's worth, I seem to have version VDE130529-01.
|
|
@borgus1: Where do I find Power Tools?
|
|
@Cap'n Kevin: I want to crop out unwanted objects from the periphery of my video.
I right-click on the video as it's loaded on the timeline and the "crop image" option is gray and unresponsive.
|
|
Why will the crop function not work on my Power Director 11 software?
|
|
Well, I think I stumbled on an answer.
When the transitions are inserted, and both/all video segments are highlighted, the video will play, with transitions, as planned.
|
|
I know, this is very fundamental, but... I can't seem to figure out how to splice two clips together. There's a tab for trimming, but none for splicing, and since "splicing", "joining", or any other term I can think of is not in the user manual index, and I can't find any solutions via google...
How can I splice video clips?
