hokieinidaho,
I meant no insult on the "popping-off", we've all done it, will probably again, and a search of the Forum will find THE CRAB to be quite vocal about problems encountered in the past!
Stick around long enough to see if one of the smarties here can quickly get you up-and-running. This software works wonders, and can be an absolute blast to use.
NOTE: Have you seen, and/or filled out any crash report dialogues that sometimes appear when things go awry? Is that what you mean by "debug mode"?
Some folks have found their own issues' cause by booting up in safe mode and going through a series of steps, I'm not qualified to expand on that.
BTC
Thanks BTC.
No, I've been offered nothing, other than the requests for information, and the usual run-through on defrag, other programs, etc. I'd be happy with a simple clean install and reinstall, just to humor, but I seem to be the one dancing here with no suggestions other than the beta install (and I'm a beta installer/testing for many products both at home and in the enterprise). So, no, I'm pretty much in a holding pattern circling the runway. On problem #2 I get the dialog asking me for my email address to send the dump and I've filled that out. But with no one syncing up on the other end to find out what is going on, I'm just circling the runway. Prey tell, my friend.

hokieinidaho,
did you try us here on the Forum, yet? Also, when things go stale, give 'em a nudge on their Facebook Page. It's not support, but you'll get a public response.
BTO,
I looked at your 2 topics, and I think many will agree the new functions of the slideshow editor could use some tweaking, but over that single issue (which might be solved with a viewing of a tutorial), you want to throw the baby out with the bathwater? Buggy? Having a bug (as yet undetermined), and certainly a quirk (what NLE doesn't?) does not constitute a "buggy" software. I use PD every day, and rarely, if ever, have an issue that is not my fault. As for your comment about support, you're not the first person to pop-off about their answers/non-answers, often better off coming here, to the volunteers.
Barry, I certainly could relate to BTO's frustration. We aren't trying to pop-off, we're just trying to get what looks like a great attempt of a piece of software working. For me, I've two wedding videos I have clients waiting on me to finish, after having put about 80 hours in on editing combined. I'm glad that rarely have you had issues that were not your fault. But that can really come off as frustrating to someone who's having issues.

Dafydd,
Yes, I've tried the forums on problem #1.
http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/31083.page#170635
You asked me to try the latest beta, I did, and I ended up with the same results. I was a bit excited that maybe we were going to get to the bottom of it, but that thread, much like the support thread, dried up stale. The comparable support ticket to the same solicitation for support you were helping me with, is CS001318984. This is the one where the program just hangs.
The 2nd one, is when I try to open a 2nd project, the program crashes with a dialog box saying PDR12.exe has stopped working.
CS001321522. No, I haven't put that one here on the forum, as the first one I posted is still left unaddressed.
I wish this program had debug mode like the product I support for an enterprise backup application. I would just like to get to the bottom of whether it's a corrupt installation, where the program is losing its marbles, or what.
|
|
Curious on the forums how you guys deal with support. I have 2 tickets for 2 different problems, and here's the gist of how they've gone.
first ticket
- submitted 12/12/13, and included the specs of hardware and software.
- TS response 12/13/13, canned response of requiring the latest software, closing of other programs, emptying the recycle bin, running defrag, and a few references to unrelated things (firmware on DVD drives, not applicable to problem-at-hand), and starting windows in selective mode
- customer response 12/14/13, having acknowledged and obliged by requested actions.
- TS response 12/14/13, that I'm not running latest 2230 version, and to provide event log (dxdiag)
- customer response 12/15/13, that actually, I'm running the latest beta, but would be happy to downgrade back to 2230, if instructed to do so. Also provided event log (dxdiag) as requested
- TS response 12/15/13, asking for windows event log
- customer response 12/16/13, windows event log provided
TICKET goes stale - no response from agent since 12/15. I contact customer service, they inform me that they've escalated but they refer to the wrong ticket (a new one I put in for different problem), despite my having referenced this original ticket.
Ticket number 2 (unrelated symptoms to ticket 1 - but potentially same root issue)
- submitted ticket on 12/20/13 with described symptoms, specs, and heading off all the guidance of all other programs being closed, %temp% being flushed, recycle bin cleared, defrag completed, and windows in selective mode. Even included the dxdiag log
- TS agent response 12/20/13, asking for event log (turns out he's wanting windows event log)
Seems like I'm the one giving here, but I'm not getting a whole lot back in return. I know I'm probably singing an old song that most have dealt with in the past, but this is pretty frustrating. There's got to be some good video editing software out there with some resemblance of support.

Well, this isn't good. I took the AVCHD stream that was output as a work-around, and brought in back in to PD to make the chapters and attempt the creation of DVD.
On both computers, when I hit <Create Disc> the program hangs.
- on the desktop, I got to 57% on the "Checking Menu Settings / Updating title profile settings
- on the laptop, I got to 23% on the same dialog.
I'm in dismay, and really heart-broken on this. I'm not sure what to do at this point, other than try to salvage the video by bringing it into Roxio to finish the project.
Minor breakthrough - I went back and did <produce>, imported that file, and did the menus & DVD burn.

If it was me on your desktop I'd try your DVD to a folder without the "Smart Fit" that you currently have selected in your previous attached pic, if PD thinks your project is larger than 4.7GB, change that DVD drop down to 8.5GB and the do the "Create a folder" option for the burn and see what luck you have. Use no hardware acceleration as well.
Jeff
Thanks Jeff. I gave that a try, and I got the same thing. Program locks up.
Over on the laptop, I tried a very basic menu (default one for PD) and it bombed out the MotionMenuGeneratior Application. So at this point, it looks like the only thing I can do, is resort to what I've always had to do in Roxio (Ack!) and produce a video file, and reimport in to do the menus.
|
|
You highlighted it, "project", as I said the menu is not part of the "project". Your custom menus are easily moved and are at
\Users\USERNAME\Documents\CyberLink\Custom Menus , yes you manually move them to the other computer, they are not part of any export or any packing process. The are numerically incremented for every custom menu you saved.
Thanks Jeff, I really appreciate it!

Hi Dafydd,
Here is some more information that may be useful. I was able to successfully get the video over to the other computer (laptop), after having removed the excluded menu sound file ("Good life.wav") prior to the pack process at the source. I also was able to get the menu theme over to the laptop using the directorzone export/import. I ran into similar motion generator crashes on the laptop, so now I am trying something different. I'm scrapping the menu design and trying a burn without any menus.
Stay tuned, and thanks again!
Hi Dafydd,
Here's what I was able to determine. I went with clearing the menus (no menu) and here are the results
- on the desktop (running beta) burning a regular DVD to file resulted in program hang
- on the desktop burning an AVCHD to file actually worked
note that both options above were without hardware acceleration - I'm attempting again with it turned on just for kicks
- on the laptop (12.0.2230.0) I was able to burn to file DVD, as well as AVCHD (without acceleration) and I'm currently burning AVCHD again with acceleration
Thanks again for your assistance.

Bug, debatable. The menu is not part of the project and has not been for any release of PD. Limitation, yes, bug, questionable. There are many other things it does not pack either. Basically, it assembles all the video/audio/pics used in the timeline, that's it. Exact menu or custom pic used in a menu, not packed either.
Jeff
Jeff, thank you again for your chiming in. As a new user of this product, I have to say I absolutely love it over another product I've been using for a while. I certainly mean no offense, but I'm not certain there's really a debate here. The product documentation clearly states the ability to export a project, the packing of all the materials to enable importing into another computer. Nowhere are there exclusions that say it only applies to the edit pane of the product. If you, or any others, have become apathetic to accepting the product as is, then I certainly do respect your decision. However, this being a great product, and with my being in somewhat of a bind to finish up 2 wedding videos within the next week that I have more than 80 hours of time into, I'm just trying to use the documented features to continue to the project on another computer. We might be able to isolate the issue here and potentially solve the problem. If you want to call it a feature enhancement, then sure, we can do that. I'm just trying to work around some issues using the documented features, while avoiding the distractions.
thank you sir - hokieinidaho

Menu items are not retained in a "Pack Project Materials.." export process as well as many other things. You used the Good life.WAV in your DVD menu. You would need to move that file, C:\Users\Lowell\Videos\2013-09-15 - 2013-09-15 Sami & Dustyn Wedding\Good life.WAV , to the other computer manually.
Jeff
While we wait for the analysis of the root problem (that I can no longer get my client's wedding video to DVD), I'm attempting to migrate over to another computer to see if I have any better luck. Hence, the finding of the other issue where the program hangs on the missing file. Jeff, you mention that the export process doesn't retain menu items - as well as "other things" - do you have any documentation on what "other things" so I don't miss them?
Also, does anyone know how to get a custom-designed menu template from 1 computer to the other, other than through the directorzone upload/download process?

Hi Jeff, and thank you for your response. Yes, we're finding that we may have a bug here, given the defined feature doesn't include all media files as it should.
Product feature documentation:
Exporting Projects
You can export your CyberLink PowerDirector projects by writing them to a DV
tape, or by packing all the materials in a folder on your computer's hard drive.
Exported projects can then be imported into another computer running CyberLink
PowerDirector.
To export your project to a DV tape select File > Export > Write to DV Tape. To
export it to a folder, select File > Pack Project Materials.

Okay, I've installed 12.0.2405.0 Beta on the desktop computer.
Screenshot attached.
As for the other issue (missing disc music in pack file), I repacked on the source computer (having the 2405 beta) copied over to laptop, and experienced the same problem. Note that I did NOT update the laptop to the 2405 beta.

First attachment is the disc menu on the source computer (desktop)
Second attachment is the attempt to go to the disc menu on the target computer (laptop).

Hi hokieinidaho,
I'd like you to install the latest beta patch and read up on the previous beta updates, link: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/31029.page#170251
Please retest your issue with the latest beta patch.
The missed off audio file is a concern, please give more information on your project and the audio file.
1. Screenshot of the Edit Workspace
2. MediaInfo on the audio file, included in the info should be the local address of the audio, please retain this data.
3. Diagnostic data on both computers.
Look up the guide information, Part B,E&F, J link: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/29701.page
I will be passing the data to CyberLink as you may have located a bug issue for them to investigate, the audio file should be included in an packed project. More information may be required.
Dafydd
Hi Dafydd,
Thanks so much for your assistance here - I really appreciate it. I will give the beta a try, and get back to you.
Regarding the missing of the audio file, I think I know what it is. I think there's a bug with PD including the media file used in the menu of the create disc, when doing the pack project. If I remove the audio file from the project prior to packing it on the desktop, and then open it on the laptop, it works fine.
Information on the file in question ("Good life.WAV") - this file was an extraction from a video file, using PD. MediaArea.net says
General
Complete name : C:\Users\Lowell\Videos\2013-09-15 - 2013-09-15 Sami & Dustyn Wedding\Good life.WAV
Format : Wave
File size : 2.81 MiB
Duration : 15s 362ms
Overall bit rate mode : Constant
Overall bit rate : 1 536 Kbps
Audio
Format : PCM
Format settings, Endianness : Little
Format settings, Sign : Signed

Bit rate : 1 536 Kbps
Channel(s) : 2 channels
Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz

You will find the dxdiags from both computers attached. You'll also find a screenshot of the edit on the source computer. I will also provide 2 more screen shots in an ensuing follow-up.

Hi there,
I have a wedding project (call "Sami") I've about 40 hours of editing work done on. I have been doing editing, DVD creation (both standard and AVCHD) without any issues. I went back and corrected a few things in the video, and now I am having issues. Although I am able to use "Produce" to render a video, the "Create Disc" option has quit working ("PowerDirector 12 is not responding"). I get this even when trying to "Create a folder" option under create disc. The issue occurs whether I've enabled hardware acceleration or not. When I go back to an older version of the project from 3 days ago, I experience the same lockup when trying to create a disc folder set.
When I pack the "Sami" project up and copy it over to my laptop, and then try to open it. I get a "CyberLink PowerDirector" dialog referencing a sound file that was part of my project. Options are Ignore, Browse, and Ignore All. For whatever reason, this file wasn't included in the packed project. When I click Ignore, the program locks up. This occurred during the "Checking Menu Settings (10%). Updating title profile settings..."
Here are the specs on the problematic computer (desktop):
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Intel i7-2600 @ 3.4Ghz, 10GB of RAM, GeForce GT 530 (331.58 driver), 320GB of free disk space on system volume. PowerDirector Ultimate 12.0.2230.0
Thanks in advance for any help!

Wow, thanks PIX. That's a bit embarrassing. Why didn't I just try that!
|
|
Please pardon the newbie question, still trying to learn the ropes here.
I have an audio file that I've imported, and I've cropped. I now want to go to the mix pane. How do I get my cropped audio segment into the mix pane?
|
|
Cloud9 - part of the problem is PIX isn't listening to what you're saying. He keeps changing the problem by saying you're importing a MONO file. You clearly stated you had 2 channel (stereo) with sound only on one. I have the same issue. Roxio has a feature in Sound Editor where you right click on the sound clip, and then in channel control you can select "Left on both", "right on both", "left on right", "right on left", etc. Basically a means for easily handling this. I've recently been trying to convert over to Cyberlink, and looking for the same feature in AudioDirector, but unable to find it.
