Hello Again,
UPDATE: It now works. The problem was the "Fast Video Rendering Technology" box. It had been checked each of the previous (many) attempts. The sub box of "Hardware Video Encoder" had also been checked. When I unchecked this, just now, the video produces just fine.
So, I guess this feature is not compatible with my computer. (I used Dell Latitude E6420 and am running Windows 7 Professional with an NVidea NVS 4200M Graphics card--I had another issue, brought to this forum, a while back due to the NVidea card).
Thank you for the time and attention, Dafydd.
If there is any info I can supply to aid someone else with a similar issue as mine, please let me know.
Sincerely
Gary

Hi Dafydd,
I did the updates as you suggested (none needed for my graphics card) and no change. Is there a step I am missing?
Do I have to link the individual video clips together in some way if I don't use the various Transition effects?
and
Do I have to do something to link the audio clips to the video clips?
As mentioned above, I have everything laid out in the Timeline--all vid clips on the top line, sitting next to each other, and the two audio clips on the line that is directly under Line 2, the line that begins with the little microphone symbol.
I have not, and can't see anything to do so, linked any of the files to each other. I assume PD does this automatically when in Production mode.
Thanks again!
Gary

Thanks Dafydd,
I'll do the updates as you suggest and try again a bit later this morning, and then report back. Hopefully this works.
Thanks!

Hello,
A little help would really be greatly appreciated!
I am using PD9 Ultra 64 build 9.0.0.2316. I have made a number of movies with this system before, but am having some strange difficulty now. I have 8 video clips (of nature scenes) on my Timeline in Edit mode, and have created two audio clips to go with it. However, I am missing some step when trying to produce a movie from these items. When I go into the Produce Section, I choose to do an MPEG2 file format and specify where to put the output file on my computer. However, when the production file is done, only a small audio file is actually created, no video is in the finished product (I get a green screen when I run the finished "movie" file). The out put file should be big, such as 300 MG or something, but only comes out to about 7 or 8 MG.
I assume I am missing a simple step to tie the audio and video to together and to get the video to actually process. I can't figure it out after wasting an entire day, reading and re-reading the user guide and trying everything.
Specifically:
I have 8 short clips on Timeline line 1. I have not added any transitions as I just want the clips to go from one to the next without a transition effect.
Under line 2, on the row that has a microphone symbol at the end on the left, I have two audio clips that were made of me doing an explanation of what is going on in the video.
When I play the items using the "movie" button on the preview screen, everything works perfectly. My voice is superimposed over the original sounds of the audio, and everything looks perfectly.
To then create the finished product, a movie, I then:
1. Click the "Produce" Button
2. Choose MPEG2 file format
3. Specify where to save the output file (finished movie)
4. Click Start.
The thing then runs 18 minutes or so and only outputs a small audio file.
Note: I did not do any type of link between any of the clips on line 1 in the Timeline as I assume this is done by the Production function and I don't see anything that "ties-in" the audio to the video clips (I assume this is supposed to be done also in the Production Function).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks and Sincerely

Ah, I should have no problem now finding
Thanks and again, I appreciate the attention to my hopefully past problem with PD9.
Gary
PS: I had tried the basic part of what is shown in the PDF before I talked with the Dell tech support. It did not help. When I told the Dell tech guy about doing this, he said it was ineffective and that it was better to just disable the Optimus technology altogether via the Bios.

Hi Dafydd
In the case of Dell's support information, there is nothing to attach and pass on. I was given the advice verbally and it is related as in my prior post. I purchased the extended and premium support and so my consult on this by telephone. The Dell support guy instantly knew the problem when I described it. Apparently the Optimus Nvidia cards cause a lot of support calls for various problems.
Just refer the CL tech to my post. Also, even though the guys you are communicating with are good, they should hear the poor service given the normal customer of theirs.
Also, I appreciate the pdf info, though I still don't see it. I am going to stay as I am with the optimus disabled. I don't care to have this technology. Also, I have sent in an email to the tech guy at Dell asking him to recommend a new video graphics card for my computer. I might chuck the Nvidia later this year and get a decent one. The Nvidia is a poor performer and has lousy ratings.

Hi Dafydd,
Sorry I was AOL--I did not have internet access for a few days. Just got it back. First, while I am glad to send a file, it is irrelevant. The issue is not the file type, it is the import routine bringing files into the PD9 program in the first place. All files were unable to be imported, regardless of type or size. This included even a simple jpg photo file. At first, I thought the problem had something to do with my AVCHD type video files. But then I tried mpg and mpeg2 files and the same freezing issue occurred on the import routine.
Also, I tried the link you gave above, and I don't know what you want me to look at. It is another user having problems with his Dell XPS computer. I don't see anywhere for settings as you described. I read the entire discussion.
Anyhow, I have been successfully editing files since I disabled the Optimus technology from the BIOS screen. A Dell tech support representative directed me to do this. He said the slight hit to battery performance will be very minimal, and the headaches caused by this ineffectual Optimus Technology eliminated.
I certainly appreciate the attention, interest and pursuit of the answers. Personally I have zero faith in the CL tech support. They were non-responsive until I complained for each round of message exchanges. When each time they finally responded, their "support" was absolutely useless and irrelevant to the problem. I am not even sure if they read the problem I described--one time I was asked for a "Pack Project". This is idiotic since I could not start a project without being able to import files, so nothing to pack and send! After 2 weeks of this nonsense, I tried this board (my first time ever using a board actually).
In 4 hours on this board, I got the lead for the solution.
Sincerely
Gary
PS: I still have dodgy internet access (I am traveling in a developing country for a while). So if I don't immediately respond, I'll definitely do so when I can.

Hi Dafydd, I'll be glad to. However, I'll try to do it in the next couple of days. I am not in a place where I can do it from where I am at the moment.
Gary
PS: Disabling the optimus worked. It would be nice though if I could use the Cyberlink software without having to disable the Optimus, of course.

Thanks Neil for the feedback. Re the word that some have had difficulty installing this patch: Hmm, I may consider just waiting for the next patch then. It took so long to get this thing to sort of work that I am afraid to touch it for now!
The patches seem to come out quarterly or so from what I see.

Hello Again: Perhaps someone can help me with another question related to this problem. Tony above recommended I install the latest update for the PD9 version I am running. Would anyone know if I first need to run the prior updates before running the most current one? Or does the current update "cover" all the materials from the prior updates too?
Thanks!!!
PS: Update on status of my problem: I was able to do a full set of edits and enhancements yesterday to a test video. My PD9 seems to work fairly well now. It still hesitates at some points, but does not "hang" or need to be closed down.
The solution was the direction from the Dell technical support (maker of my Latitude laptop PC) to disable the Optimus technology for my NVidia card from the BIOs screen.
|
|
Hey Tony,
Perhaps I can ask you another question: Re the update, I am downloading the latest build update for build 2930. Should I be also doing the prior updates? Or will the latest one cover all the prior ones too?
Thanks again in advance!

Thanks yet again, Tony. I went ahead and re-installed the Contents Pack.
Gary
PS: Still haven't had a chance to put my PD through the paces fully yet since disabling the Optimus technology on my NVidia card. Hopefully will have some time to do some editing tomorrow. Will report then and hopefully be able to "close" this issue.

Ok. Thanks again Tony. I'll re-install the Contents Pack too.

FredB: I see. I'll be updating my PD9 today with their latest release.
Question: When I received my original download links from the Cyberlink Tech Support, there were 2 files, the PD9 program and the ContentsPack. When I uninstalled and re-installed the PD9 yesterday, I only re-installed the PD9 program file. There was no "Uninstall" procedure for the Contents Pack (or is this uninstalled when one does the normal uninstall for PD9?). Anyhow, do you know if I should be re-installing the Contents Pack again?
(PS: I am actually hesitant to do anything, because the program actually seems to be working. I did have one freeze up earlier today though. Later I will try to do my first edits. Fingers crossed).

Thanks for the comments FredB: I have already checked the NVidia site, and used their online PC scanner to check for driver updates. It says that no update is needed for my driver at this time. The driver I have is dated Feb 2011. A more current one is dated June. But, apparently it is not for my particularly version of the NVidia card because their scannner keeps returning a negative (no update available) finding.
I'll install the latest PD version later today. Strange though that I don't already have it. I got my current download version directly from the Cyberlink Tech Support. You would think that they'd give me the most up to date one.
Thanks again

Latest update: I called Dell Support. They had me go into the Bios of my laptop and disable the Optimus technology. This worked better than my doing it in the NVidia Control Panel as I mentioned doing earlier.
I don't want to declare victory yet, as I was proven false earlier when I thought the problem was resolved. But, for now, it does appear to be working correctly. I imported a number of files into my the PD, was able to do various cursory functions with them. I even imported multiple files at once.
Tomorrow, I'll try some real editing after I learn how to use this thing. If it works properly with no more freezing, I'll post an update to this thread hopefully confirming the problem is indeed solved.

Now it is freezing again. I guess I spoke too soon. I tried importing my whole folder full of video files and it froze and had to be shut down. It now only randomly works. Sometimes I can import a few individual files ok, but then after a few imports, it freezes. File size does not matter.
I think the problem is definitely related to my video card. But, I have what may sound like a stupid question. But, is there something that might be "clogging" up the program? Does the PD program reach a certain point where there is too much data in it? My PD9 program is newly installed, for the 3rd time earlier today, so I can't see how it can be "storing" data in some hidden way except through Projects that I have saved. Which for now, is none.
Thanks again. I am about ready to give up and request a refund unless somebody has some ideas. Or I guess I can get a new video card.

Update comment: There does still seem to be a limitation though to my fixed PD9 situation. The import function works properly when I import 1 file at a time (it seems of any size, small or large). But when I try to import a folder, or even just several files, the program still locks up.
Oh well. Probably not that big of a deal. I can just import files one at a time, I guess. At least it works overall now.
Thanks again for the aid.

It works now!
Adrian: Your last link on the Optimus Technology provided the clue to the answer .
I went into my NVidia Control Panel and set as default to use the NVidia Processor with the PD9. The Global Setting was for the choice to be made automatically, which doesn't work very well, as the info in the links you provided amply attested.
The videos import immediately now and play without stuttering. The final adjustment involved the color scheme. The videos played back in a darkish purple hue. So, adjusting the color settings brings the color to "normal". I can tell what normal is by looking at photos I took of the same events as the video.
Thanks again Adrian for posting this. And I appreciate the time and attention that you gave Tony and Floridagator.
Amazing, after two weeks of goofing around with that useless Cybertech online support, I got an answer here in 4 hours.
Cheers
Gary

I appreciate the initial feedback from each of you above. Some comments:
Tony: It appears my video card is a POS compared to other top models. I re-checked my driver, too. According to the NVidia site diagnostic too (checks your PC to see if a driver update is needed), no driver update for mine is needed at this time.
Thanks for the information.
Floridagator: The link to the bulletin board re the problems with the files from my camcorder might be helpful. At the least, I can use the AVCHD mts/m2ts converter mentioned to make my files mpg4, which are easier to work with. However, my PD9 program freezes even when importing a mpg video file (converted to mpg by the Panasonic supplied edit software that came with the Camcorder. This software though does not work with Win 7 64 bit system though--which is why I got the PD9) It is worth trying this converter though and then seeing if the PD9 will work importing the converted file.
Thanks for the feedback.
Adrian: I am stuck with the Optimus technology. Can't disable it in the event that this is the problem. I might give Dell Support a call to see if they know anything about this type of issue.
Thanks again each of you for your thoughts.
