Quote: I agree, this is a needed feature. I just bought PD9 and found the same problem. Need to have a picture for graphic purposes kept at same size so it doesn't scale (so it looks best).

UPDATE

Just had a thought....

Make the image the same size as your video...don't stretch it, just put a border around it to make it fit.
Then, once in PD, mask out the area that shouldn't be seen. That way the image is not resampled and made fuzzy.

Compared to inserting image in Text layer (PNG-24) versus making image match full video size, the latter is much crisper...still not as sharp as original, but good enough.

Hey, thanks for the suggestion!
Quote: I do photography and I don't quite understand what you are trying to accomplish with maintaining the size of a Photoshopped file.
If you are making a video with a specific resolution to view on a video screen, whats the difference in resizing the photo in Cyberlink with the same resolution as the original.
What am I missing?

The difference is that in Power Director, it doesn't seem I can type in the dimensions to make it a specific size; I have to manually drag the corners to resize, and even then, it's not precise because the new dimensions don't show when I'm resizing. It's a "guesstimate". That's no so bad if I've only got one image I want to do that way, but when I have multiple images in a row that I want that exact same size, it's a lot of work to get them all exactly the same size.

I frankly don't understand why "import at original size" isn't the default, that can be changed if needed. Seems to me that there would be more demand for original size rather than scaled to fit. The "import at original size" option isn't the default in Premier Elements, but at least it has the option.

I really like PD for its effects, its transitions, its auto-slideshow feature, but the more i get into it, I see that it's missing some of the more "precise" controls, such as import at original size, feather edge blending, ability to type in starting points for a clip, etc. If any of those 3 are in there, please let me know; I don't mind looking like a fool if it helps me out. I seriously doubt they are - I've searched high and low.

Thanks,
Mike
Can we really not import videos and images at their native size dimensions? Seems like that would be a basic feature in all editing software.
Quote: It's the way PD is designed. When working with a larger number of images, small is better. You can still see the image in a larger format on the preview window which can be re-sized.

Hi, thanks for replying, but I'm talking about the image being upscaled. For instance, when I import an image, it always upscales the pic to fit the 720x480 screen. For instance, if I created a 480x360 image, import it into PD, the image is upscaled to best fit the screen, instead of remaining at original size. I know you can resize it though the Modify feature, but you can't enter a specific size, you have to resize it manually.
Thanks,
Mike
Quote: jumpback67,

You just give the best idea I've heard in recent times. No one else has occurred and it is as simple as that. I very much agree with you. Basically the operation of Power Director does not change in structure. Just some extra features or improvements. But in essence, from PD5 on, everything is basically the same. Many answers are scattered between PD5, 5,6,7,8 and 9. For example, they often ask questions at PD9, which is already answered in PD7.I am clear that in search, you can ask a question in "All available” and that give you a general search answer, but your idea would be great.

Cheers

Thanks a lot for the nice words. And your reasoning is spot on.
Quote: I think you can search "All Available".

Yes, but that gives answers for all products. What if your search term can be found in discussions about all products. Your desired answer might not be until page 10. That's a lot of time spent looking for answers, and if you get to the end and there is no answer, you've just wasted a lot of time.
This can't be done?

Does anyone know why this is not a feature? It is in Premiere Elements.

The Search engine would be much better if there were a way to search "all power director" instead of just each version # or all forums.
Hello,
When I drag an imported image into the timeline, I want it to be at the image's original size/resolution. For instance, I want a 540x400 image that I created in Photoshop to be 540x400 when I drag it into the timeline. But PD resizes it. Is there an "original size" setting I'm missing?
Thanks,
Mike
Quote: Instead of a rectangular feathered edge, there is an oval feathered edge. See the effects: Focus, Color Focus, Spotlight. There's another one but I can't remember which one.

In addition, you can create any feathered edge effect with a photo or graphic program and save the flattened document as a .png file with transparency. Inside the photo or graphic app, the document would have a base layer that is transparent, and another layer on top with a grandiant effect going from black to transparency using a retangular or oval shape.

In PD, the .png file would go on a track below the main track.

You can also add the .png file to the Masks folder, where the PD program is installed, and use it in the PIP designer. There are two files for each mask effect, one is the actual mask and the other is a thumbnail image that represents the effect. The thumbnail image will be selectable in the PIP designer. See the naming convention they use in the Masks folder.

There may be some mask images in the Director Zone you can download.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Focus is great, but the clip I'm applying the effect to is a smaller clip overlaying a larger clip, so it doesn't work. I guess what I need is a mask with feathered edge. I'll try your custom mask suggestion. Thanks a lot!
Hello, I'd like to create a faded edge effect on a video clip. In Premiere Elements, this is called a feather edge. I looked high and low but can't figure out how to do it in PD. Can anyone help?
Thanks
Resolved. Discovered I had blank space at beginning of video.
Hello, using Power Director 9, I tried to produce a video to my YouTube Account. I got this error message:

An unhandled win32 exception occurred in pdr9.exe (56

The video is a simple slideshow set to music, built using the slideshow wizard. Nothing else is involved.

I've rebooted and still get the error.

I've produced many movies to YouTube, and never have had this issue.

Thanks,
Mike
Evidently there's no way to save your produce settings. To me, that seems like a basic, so I hereby officially request it.
Hello,
How do I save Produce settings? I use the YouTube produce and upload feature and at the same time, use the output to folder option. Is there a way to save the settings so that I don't have to keep retyping the same thing over and over again every time I produce? I can't find the option anywhere.
Thanks,
Mike

To all those who helped, thanks very much!

I think this needs to be considered a bug, since Premiere Elements was able to do it. If anyone from the Cyberlink team reads this and wants the files so you can look into this, let me know. It's too late to help me, but maybe others can be helped.
I just thought of something. Can you folks think of any way I can save the edits I've done and export these to work in PE?
Thanks,
Mike
Quote: Merry Christmas to you!

You could attach the wmv video that you are trying to edit as an attachment here in the forum. It's not that big....we could then download it and see if we could convert it for you into something you could work with in PD or even figure out where it is having a problem. If a solution is found...we attach it and you download the corrected useable version.

Just trying to think of a way to help you out in some way.

Regards,

Kevin

Hi,
I appreciate the offer, but I did a test exporting of the raw footage in Adobe Premiere Elements, and it does work in that, so I'll just have to redo the edits in PE.
Thanks and Merry Christmas!
Well, I appreciate all your work. I think that this is just poor video. I edited out that part, and it now hangs at another part. I'm just going to tell the client that the video can't be edited.

I appreciate everyone's help.

Merry Christmas to all!

Have a good sleep, and thanks a lot for all your help!
