hey,

that's brilliant!

I actually thought of that but I wanted to make sure I did not miss something. thanks so much.

You are completely right. These 'basic' type of tasks should be included but it's a mystery why they are not.

thanks again!!
Hi,
To get around another powerdirector issue with menus, I recently wondered if you could get away with no menu at all.

can I set it up somewhere to just play and forget any menu? I have
V5. I *thought* I had seen a note about this in the forum but all my searching turned up nothing.

thank you,
CC
hi, no I must not have been clear. sorry.

i dont use a remote control on my PC. I mean pointing and clicking on the "menu" button on the top left of windows media player.

that's all.

You could easily do a test with a dvd you made. media player comes on all PCs.

FYI I installed on my husbands computer. Its got a HP DVD Writer 300C. It also created a disk with the same issues. AUGH. I'm quite done with this.

Hi all,
I would like to update everyone on the status of this problem. I have had maybe 10 back-and-forth interactions with the support group and they gave me access to the newest download to try. I think it's 2505a? or something. Then they wanted me to try it on another computer, try it on another vcr etc.

I think they are just trying to keep me busy.

The ONE question they never answer is "why doesnt the menu button work on Windows Media Player, RealPlayer etc"

Can ANYONE out there tell me that their menu button works on these ? Does anybody ever put their newly made DVDs on their computers?

please help as I am quite frustrated.

CC
thanks again Dafydd,

I can relate to the issue of testing every device being impossible.

One of the criteria I researched before I got the Samsung was making sure it played DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW, on down the line. I have used every kind of dvd in it. I can ALWAYS get to the menu of any movie I watch. This is a basic player. I have never been unable to load and/or watch anything until now.

So, that means its NOT the player. Its the software. The function "disc menu" works on all my other videos. period.

What about the question I asked today about the Windows Media player and 'menu' not working on that? Did you try that Dafydd?

tanks!
Hi again,

So, you are saying it's my Samsung dvd/vhs combo player that is at fault?

You know, I wouldnt even care if I had to toss it and get a different one. As long as this software would work, and i could play the dvd's that I have made. I would go out right now and get a different player (first making sure it played before I bought it).

However, that leaves out the issue with playing the dvd's on the computer using Windows Media player, RealPlayer, et al . what about that?

Hasnt anyone out there put their DVD into their computer and played it? Am I the only one who does this?

people? Let me know what players on the PC you are using.

thanks again!

Hi everyone,
I got a reply from Support and they gave me a new download of the program to try. I was pleasantly pleased to try some tests.

The bottom line is.. Unfortunately, it didnt fix it. It still works the way it did before. I have sent my report back to them.

Didnt anyone else ever notice this before? that's what I want to know.

regards,
CC
Hi again and thanks for all the input on this issue. I also have some contact with the support group to help figure this out.

My Samsung vhs/dvd combo is basic. It just doesnt add up that the button doesnt work. I tried a number of different combinations too.

Also, my computer players wont give the menu. I tested "Windows Media player", Intervideo WinDVD player, and RealPlayer. NONE of the 'menu' functions on the players will give the menu. Didnt anyone ever notice this before?

I will follow up when I get done doing the test with the support group. They want me to give them another test.
thanks so much,
CC
Brynn, this is the same issue I just posted as #2 topic - cant use 'disc menu' button on remote. We must have crossed paths while typing!

I also tried adding a 'first play' video and it wont work.

I submitted the issue to support but so far they just give the same ideas; reinstall the product etc.

This sounds like a bonified BUG! we all need help.

anyone else have suggestions?
CC
Hi all. To date I have NOT created successfully a dvd.

I always use 'create disc', it works fine etc. But, I cant use 'disc menu' on my dvd player. And, (side issue) I have random hisses and frame jerks. I tried it with a motion menu AND a non-motion menu. same thing.

Has anyone actually used 'create disc' successfully? Does your dvd player buttons remote work in all cases? I am dead in the water with this product. If only this one thing would work I would be happy.

by the way, using the dvd player on my computer, it does the same thing. I can use the 'search' , fast forward etc. everything except MENU.
I sent a support request to headquarters however they dont have any suggestions except the usual answers of re-installing etc.

help!

hi there,
I stumbled across 'color boards' under the media pull down while answering another post.

what are these used for ?

thanks!
CC
Here's the how-to.

on the left side, there are all the buttons, and the top one is "media room". click that. note that 'media' is defined as movies and audio. Use your folders to find the mp3 or other music you wanted. click on it to open. now, you should see an icon in your library with a big music note symbol.

another way to find file is to click on the pull down menu right at the top of the library. It usually displays 'media'. but if you pull it down, you will see more selections like 'audio'.

to add to the movie, drag it onto the track at the bottom with the notes on it. note there will be a red dotted line indicating length of the track. drag it precisely where you want it to land.

have fun!
Hi there, I am directing this to barry. Barry, you talked about using your own images for the backgrounds of Menus. I did see the how-to here in the forum and tried to follow it. however, when I 'opened' a jpg on my computer, I got the error 'unsupported format'. On the drop-down box, I made sure jpg was in the file list to be opened, too.

what did I do wrong ? thanks so much,
CC
I have found that the # of menu buttons available depends on which template you chose.

Pick other templates, then open the 'menu button' pull down.. you will see. I consistently use 6 from a couple of them.

Hi I have more on this issue. I installed the full version and it STILL happens. I cant use 'disc menu' on my dvd player. And, (side issue) I have random hisses and frame jerks.

Has anyone actually used 'create disc' successfully? Does your dvd player buttons remote work in all cases? I am dead in the water with this product.

Ahh the ol' Can-OH-vision ! I had one of those. Loved it. Used it for many years.

have a great day everyone,

CC
Hi wayne,
I've known lots of folks who actually rent a Phillips (i think) device which reads in your VHS tape and writes it to a DVD. From there, you could rip off the DVD and edit it to suit. The idea of renting a device is nice because you wont need that device forever. IF you cant find one to rent, buy one and then resell it !

I also have used Pinnacle studio with the optional input device for connecting a VCR and reading in your tapes. If you feel like doing that, it's a few hundred $ I am pretty sure unless the prices have come down. check that out.

That's all my experience so far. good luck!

Hi there,
I was poking around on the "patch download" page (under Download tab) and found reference to what might be your problem. here is the text description:

Updated Patch: This patch only applies to end-users who use Create Disc function of the program and can not hear the music added with MagicMusic on the DVD that created. (For the PowerDirector 5 build number 1816)

If this is your build #, would this be something that applies to you? FYI !
CC
Jeffree,
thanks for that. Here's what I thought I would do;

Uninstall the trial version.

Install the new product.

in that order. Can the build # be found under the 'Help About" menu? If I do not have the current build, I would assume I can download a patch set from the main site?

thanks,
CC
hi again birdlover,

THANKS so much for posting that info. makes me feel hopeful. see, I bought the product and expect shipment this week. I was thinking that the product simply wouldnt be such a highly rated product if the simple menu function didnt work! that's basic!

(for those who have not read all the posts; i have been using the free trial and my menu page could not be accessed. that's all)

keep on posting tips and hints. thanks again,

CC
