Just to stir the pot a bit more. And not that this going to help much. But, I’ve always thought that scrolling titles in PD had one issue or another since version 4(?). However, I copied your credits above and applied them to some stock 1280x720 footage, by pasting (Ctrl+V) them into Title Designer and chosing the standard Arial font. Here’s my results.

When viewing on Youtube using the 720p viewing setting on the bigger player, it’s a bit “jittery” and not completely smooth. But maybe not as “flickery” as the results shown in your Youtube link.
I did notice in my testing that fonts with narrow portions do tend to want to flicker more than fonts of a consistent size/thickness. But I’ll do a little more testing, and report back if I find a solid solution.

As to your earlier mention of losing some of your assets when you re-opened your project, I offer this Project Management tip for what it’s worth.

Since using this method, in combination with using “Save As” often, I haven’t had anything go missing in years, and have not had to rely on the Auto Save feature.

You did just what I did, CtrlV into Title Designer but yours looks much better...very little shimmer. Maybe it's something as simple as using Ariel font?

I'm going to change the font and set my movie to producing here pretty soon...then I'll watch the dvd and see what happens...

My movie is about 35 minutes long with approx 95 different clips...it takes about an hour and a half to produce. Is that an average time?

Also, whenever I try to edit my scrolling text, I keep getting an Encountered An Improper Argument Error message. Most the time I can close it and make the changes. But sometimes the error freezes the program.

Ah, Dustie,

If PD has taught me anything it is to be patient, and realise, once again, that PD is actually a cunning tool to force humans into either insanity or into a similar state of cunning.

If one is not careful, one can anthropomorphise PD and lose all sense of perspective. I had an Irish uncle of mine who had great difficulty getting a pair of large seawater pumps to work (it was actually quite convoluted anyway) but he took to saying the only way to do it was "to take the buggers by surprise" and he would stroll nonchalantly up and down before jumping sideways and banging the switchgear down before running to the steps to the pump room, looking down and shouting "got you, pump you bastards!"

So, as to my titles, I don't know - I haven't looked and I'm not going to. I have determined not to use titles anymore and, much more creatively, I'm going to change my technique and when my voice over finishes at the end of my video, I shall sing the rolling credits instead.

Adrian...I already anthropomorphized PD and called him a Bastard... right before the movie file I'd been working on for the last couple days totally corrupted itself...duplicating clips on the time line and eating others. Scary... so now I talk nice to it and tell it how great it is... working so far...

So tell me, could fixing the shimmering text have been something as simple as clicking on the Motion Tab in the modify screen, which I'd not noticed before, and choosing No Motion Effect???? Maybe the shimmering really was a shimmer (albeit a bad one). I also changed the font to Ariel, the size to 14 and turned off shadow effect and anything else that might effect the scrolling text... now it's hurry up and wait.

And if that doesn't work I'll just have to sneak up on it and yell PUMP YOU BASTARD!

Believe me, with my voice, singing the credits is not an option.

At the risk of not being quite kosher on this forum
I tried out AE for you. I asure you, it is not difficult.
It's only a matter of 2 tracks (layers) and a little keyframing.
I did not have a suitable video background, so I just used an image+
a little pan/zoom on it. Then, copied your text in.
To be absoultely sure, I rendered to avi (!)- then converted to
1280x720, fps 30, bitrate 5000, avc. (to get it up to YT)

Afile like this, with your video as background, will be happily
imported in to PD.

Yesterday I did test here and it worked normal, so I downloaded your clip and credits ran over him in PD10 did the same thing in PD11 I could not save video, video drivers gave error stopped and recovered. (downloaded in MKV only option for 480 lines resolution)
Today I tried again and hung up fast video rendering, I started the DVD and gave the same defect, Rescued in HD looks good, then saved in HQ Progressive, solved the problem.
Your video is progressive background ai ta think the question should also save on progressive.
Here comes the 2nd problem if you make DVD for PD so he does interlaced and again will have the defect in the text.
In this case I find an option that works for me, save the video in HD 1280v720, create DVD from HD file AMD-FX 8350 / 8GB DDR3

Playsound...YOU DID IT! You, along with a gentleman named David who works where I purchased my wonderful "photography" boat, both suggested the same fix which SOLVED MY SHIMMERING TEXT PROBLEM!!! Rendering the the movie in MPEG4 format at HD 1280v720 was just what the doctor ordered! Seems the fault was mine. I was trying to save it in MPEG 2 which didn't work for the scrolling text.

Tie it up with a ribbon and give it to me as a precious gift, I can't thank you enough!

And that goes for all of you who tried so hard to help. I'd thank you all by name, but I'm afraid I might miss someone. Especially thanks to those that took my credits into their own programs to try to come up with a solution. Some ingenious methods were tried and I do thank you...

This has encouraged me to keep on trucking...keep on learning and never give up. Hopefully it will also help someone else in the future with a similar problem to mine.

I don't quite understand the steps to reduce the shimmering effect. I have a movie that is 2 hours and 5 minutes long. My credits are very long. It takes 1 hour 20 to render and an hour and 15 minutes to burn a DVD. The file is 7 gigabytes. The file is in MPEG 2 format. Would you be so kind to provide a step by step process to replicate what you did. Thank you in advance. I am concerned my file may be corrupted. My film is finished but the credits shimmer. I have burned in on to a dual layer DVD. The business where I live told me to burn on a single layer DVD as dual layer DVD will lock up on certain players. They said there would be little quality loss and provided me a copy. I could not tell the difference plus he said it is much cheaper to burn to single layer. I am at a loss what to do. I have spent four years putting the video together. I will check out your site. BTW...is there such a thing as a dual layer read write DVD? Guido 5052
