Shimmering Scrolling Credits - SOLVED!
[Post New]
Hi Guys and Gals...

Hope someone can help me out. The credits at the end of my movie are 'shaking' or 'shimmering' as they scroll. I've tried different fonts...

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Are they shimmering in the preview, or the finished/rendered video? HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)
Nvidia GTX 960(4GB)/16GB DDR3/
Canon Vixia HV30/HF-M40/HF-M41/HF-G20/Olympus E-PL5.

They are shimmering in the finished rendered and burnt to disc video...when watched on both the computer and the TV.

Did you burn a folder first?
Maybe burning just the DVD folder, rather than an actual disc, may result in a different outcome because it stresses the the computer less, just guessing right now.
Also, you can try just rendering an MPEG2 file, not a disc, and see if the shimmer persists.
Can you also describe more what the shimmer is?

I didn't have it create a folder...I'll try that...

I've created a little vid out of just the credits so you can see what I'm talking about (turn your volume down..it loaded loud...). Best to look at it full screen on you tube..even with their bad resolution you can tell what I'm talking about on the shimmer/shake text...

Love the video quality, what was the camera?
I see the shimmer in the titles, really unacceptable.
Have you tried another font yet, just to check?
Maybe try with hardware acceleration off/on.
I hope someone else chimes in with another clue/idea. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

I can best outcome for scrolling text, 1 - leaving the movement slowly, 2 - use the best quality DVD HQ.

Whenever possible I create video with MPEG2 HD 1280x720 profile I have this great quality.
Create DVD from HD file, see if it got better, I use another sofware to create DVD and is good. AMD-FX 8350 / 8GB DDR3

Barry,

Just made a discovery which might give one of you a clue as to what's causing it to shimmer... It does not shimmer in the preview window of the job page. The shimmer happens during the production process.

I never have hardware acceleration on...when I do my program keeps crashing.

The Camera that took that shot is my little workhorse Panasonic HDC-SD90. Because I'm shooting wildlife, mostly on bright sunny days, I had to break down and buy the Panasonic HDC-TM900 because I needed a view finder. I was missing too many shots not being able to pinpoint the animal with the little LCD screen.

But my the little Panasonic is still my go to camera unless I'm needing the viewfinder. Dustie

Thanks Playsound. I do use the MPEG2 HD 1280x720 profile and my video is beautiful quality. It's that pesky scrolling text. The title text in the beginning is beautiful. It has to have something to do with producing the scolling text.

And Barry...I have tried different fonts. No success..

How about rendering to a completely different format than MPEG? Try matching the camera file.

I was about to try a quick experiment on my system to check your titles, opened up PD, opened up the Title room and someone has stolen all my titles

So I'm stuck with my own problem.

Cheers

Oh dear... Good luck Adrian!

It's been over a week that I thought I was, at the most, a day away from completion... but problems have plagued...if it's not one thing it's another. And the program is getting fed up with me too...I'm finding myself saving after nearly every change to be sure I'm prepared for the next crash.

Lot of this is user error but at least half is program error. But I have to admit...I'm close to having a nice little 35 minute nature flick with some wonderful video and I'd have never been able to do without PD...

So I'm still working on it... Any more help on this pesky scrolling text. I do really have to have it... Dustie

The way is to install the ContentPack, PD11 has an update that did it here too.

Nightowl,
have you ever posted your dxdiag for us to analyze?
There may a crash-clue in the dxdiag.
For now, we will stay with the titles, but a new thread to work on the crashes might be a good idea, with the possible outcome of greatly improving your editing experience.
Link to dxdiag...save for later.

The crashes have been few and far between until I got to this advanced stage of the game.

Everything is really going wacky now. I pulled up my latest saved version and there are big gaps on the timeline where there were none before...and when I play what's there they skip, hop and jump...

This is a first. I'm going to reboot the computer to see if it puts things back to normal. If not, I've a tone of work ahead of me when the only thing that really needed to be done was correct the shimmering text.

Guess that will teach me to speak ill of my programs...

I have dxdiaged in here early on...everyone said plenty enough power and everything looked good.. don't think anything would have changed. I've a ASUSG73J...was a top of the line gamer's laptop about three years back...

Rebooting now... Dustie

Something is up... I just pulled up my movie, the one I've been working for hours a day for the last 6 weeks, and half the files are now missing from the timeline. Just two hours ago I was nearly finished...95 clips of various lengths with smooth transitions one into the other...all set to 6 original musical compositions and now the timeline looks like swiss cheese with scores of files missing and the other's in the wrong place on the timeline and none of it in sync with the music.

And I've done nothing but save then close the file in order to render the credits so I could upload them to youtube to show the shimmer... When I reopened the file, it was corrupted like this.

Fortunately I have a version 3 from a few days ago, but that will mean I will have lost all my work from the last three or four days...that's like at least 24 hours of work~!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I should have stuck with the shimmering text...

Check your autosave location
C:\Users\Adrian\AppData\Roaming\CyberLink\PowerDirector\11.0\AutoSave\

by default unless you have altered it. It's in preferences>project

No good...file is good and corrupted and I didn't do a thing to cause it. I really should have stuck with version 9. I just don't think it would have corrupted a file like this... They don't have the bugs out of 11 yet, that's for sure.
