NewBlue Effects Mess

There are two related threads which both came to a similar point, even though they didn't start out that way...

http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/29987.page and http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/29992.page

Different members have reported various issues with the impact of PD12 installation on NewBlue Effects. Perhaps if issues are posted here, we may be able to see some kind of pattern in the mess.

Is there anyone who ISN'T experiencing issues with this?

Cheers - Tony

Hey Andy,

Just curious- what version of PD 12 are you using and is your NewBlue fX installed on your main C: drive ?
thanks.

I can't make it crash but the missing effects is a concern.
I've now uninstalled PD11 but didn't have the Motion Pack listed in PD11 before that even.
Since we paid for it with PD11, I think we should either have that effect package retained or updated or have comparable new effects. Zoom Blur I don't see anywhere. PD12 Ultimate Suite (upgrade from PD11 Ultimate). PhotoDirector 5. PowerDVD13. YouCam 5.

I think the NewBlue Motion pack came with PD Ultimate version not with the others (Deluxe etc.)

Hey peeps- Please let us know your versions of Power Director or put it in your sig. so we can see what you have
thanks.

At this point I am thinking it's version dependent whether you have some of the NewBlue effects or not.
PD 11 & PD 12 Version Comparison: http://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdirector-ultimate-suite/compare-upgrade_en_CA.html

For PD 11 Ultimate Suite the NewBlue Art, Motion & Paint effects should be included as extra features. (Not sure about the regular Ultimate version. I have a strong feeling they should be- but need verification on this.)
For the PD 11 Ultra & Deluxe these might not be included - again please verify.

For PD 12 version Comparison: http://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdirector-ultimate-suite/compare_en_CA.html
It gets a bit more complicated:
PD 12 Deluxe & Ultra get Essentials I
PD 12 Ultimate & Ultimate Suite get additional Essentials II & III

At this point the jury is out where the previous NewBlue: Art, Motion & Paint effects are that were included in the older PD 11 Ultimate Suite. See above picture.

Fyi- I found the installation reference to NewBlue (along with SmartSound) see attached pic.
I have PD 11 Ultimate Suite installed and there are 5 install files:

CL_PUS121004-05.part1.exe
CL_PUS121004-05.part2.rar
CL_PUS121004-05.part3.rar ***
CL_PUS121004-05.part4.rar
CL_PUS121004-05.part5.rar

Using 7zip or WinZip or Rar open up CL_PUS121004-05.part3.rar
Then open directory PDIR
Use Notepad to view Custom.ini

I found references to SmartSound and NewBlue at the end of the install string. See attached pic.

I am supposed to have Director Suite 2.
But, there was no NewBlue Art, Motion & Paint effects there, only Essentials 1.
Along with this suite came PDR 12 Ultra (not Ultimate), hence I had to “transfer” the
effects NewBlue Art, Motion & Paint effects from PDR11 Ultimate.

Rob -

Good job there trying to apply some logic. That's my problem. My logic is out of alignment with the installer's!

These tables:
http://www.cyberlink.com/support/product-faq-content.do?id=14953&prodId=4&prodVerId=977
http://www.cyberlink.com/support/product-faq-content.do?id=14952&prodId=4&prodVerId=977
show which NBFX were installed with each version of PD11.

All versions got the NB Art Effects. Ultimate & Ultimate Suite got the NB Motion & Paint Effects as well.

* My only real questions are, when I installed PD12:
1. Why were the NB Motion & Paint Effects ditched?
2. Why did my previously-correctly-functioning NB Art Effects become misnamed?
3. Why were my NB Essentials I duplicated rather than overwritten? wjr002 may have answered that one.

Nina -

What you've said partly makes sense. Director Suite 2 (PD12) does not include NB Art, Paint or Motion effects. According to the table Rob posted http://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdirector-ultimate-suite/compare_en_US.html?&r=1 it should include Video Essentials I, II & III

When I get around to doing my purge I will try your "transfer" method to trick the thing into giving back my missing effects.

To end this post on a positive note, I've found PD12 to function very solidly even under intense workload.

Cheers - Tony

Tony,

I have nothing called Video Essentials I,II,III - never was in there as such...

To be exact, after I transferred the NB from 11, I now have under fx (in Director Suite 2):
19 3D
NB Art Effects
NB Essentials
NB Motion
NB Paint
20 Particle
18 Special
39 Style
5 Text masking
26 Visual

I have PD12 Ultimate and the NewBlue effects I, II, and III. I kept crashing when I went into the Fx room, so I tried deleting--formally uninstalling those effects packages via the Windows 8 Uninstall module.

My issues went away, but now I want to put NewBlue effects back but do not know where the installation program is.

I reinstalled Content Pack Essentials and Content Pack Premium, but the NewBlue effect didn't show up. I guess I'm resigned to reinstall PD12 Ultimate totally from scratch (uninstall and reinstall everything). ---

My NB effects in PD12 are fine. PD12 has:
10 effects from NB Art effects from PD11 Ultimate
22 effects from NB Effect pack from PD11 Ultimate, (10 NB motion, 12 NB paint)
10 effects from NB Essential I from PD12 Director Suite 2
10 effects from NB Essential II from PD12 Director Suite 2
10 effects from NB Essential III from PD12 Director Suite 2

ref PD12 http://www.cyberlink.com/support/product-faq-content.do?id=16447&prodId=4&prodVerId=1052
ref PD11 http://www.cyberlink.com/support/product-faq-content.do?id=14953&prodId=4&prodVerId=977

No NB effects contain funny names. Checked about 60% of them and they produce no program crash issues. I did not do any directory moving.

Progress!
I reinstalled PD11 and Motion and Paint effects come up in PD12.
Now. since I really don't want PD11 installed as well (I don't need it). I'm going to:
1. copy out C:\Program Files\CyberLink\Shared files\PlugIn\NewBlue
2. Uninstall PD11
3. Copy Back missing files from old directory.
PD12 Ultimate Suite (upgrade from PD11 Ultimate). PhotoDirector 5. PowerDVD13. YouCam 5.

This worked!

I now have Motion, Paint and Art effects from PD11 in PD12 with PD11 uninstalled.

No clue why some go missing on an upgrade with PD11 still installed as some have experienced.

Can confirm, however, that despite NB Motion and Paint Effects and NB Art Effects being listed separately in Control Panel that uninstalling PD11 removes them from the directory. After the uninstall they still show up in Control panel but no files (except for some dll's) are there.

Might hang on to the old effects folder in a zip just in case.

I need to clarify that I have PD12 Ultimate Suite 2 and not DS2 as I mentioned in another post.

Are you referring to the "missing" effects from PD11?

If so, the "missing" NB effects from PD11 are in the main PD11 setup. You can do as I did and install and then uninstall PD11 with a backup of that directory that is later recovered or just leave PD11 installed.

Note I didn't overwrite and files when I copied the old directory with PD11 and PD12 installed to the same directory with PD11 uninstalled.

Excellent- those were the links and details I was missing- basically the method to the madness was to establish what previous versions had what. So going forward- users of PD 12 versions can reasonably expect the minimum included extra effects.

Jeff - has confirmed his install is fine- so there are gremlins running around elsewhere.

I would contact Cyberlink and ask about this. Something definitely not right with the installer.

So, I uninstalled all of PD12 and related items and reinstalled everything from scratch. My "Clicking-on-the-Fx-tab-after-adding-a-still-photo-to-the-timeline" error/crash appears to have gone away.

Having said that, prior to this reinstall, the error/crash did not happen every time--many times--but not every time.

Additionally, all my NewBlue effects (I, II, & III) are back!

So far, so good. ---
