The dreaded 'green screen' obscuring preview.

I cannot seem to rid myself of it. Frustrating. I read last night of trying unchecking the shadow files option, and hardware acceleration option, these actions have not solved the problem. I've read of others uninstalling and reinstalling to solve this, that certainly seems extreme (especially if the result is temporary!). I'm very new to this and just bought the computer that PD11 is on. I haven't got a clue about codecs and patches...

HP Pavilion G6-2235TX Notebook
• CPU: 3Rd Generation Intel Core I7-3632Qm Processor (2.2Ghz, 6Mb L3 Cache)
• Display Panel: 15.6-Inch Diagonal Hd Brightview Led-Backlit Display (1366X768 )
• Standard Memory: 4096Mb 1600Mhz Ddr3 System Memory (1 Dimm) 1X 4Gb
• Hard drive: 500Gb (5400Rpm) Hard Drive
• Optical Drive: Supermulti 8X Dvd±R/Rw With Double Layer Support
• Networking/Wireless: Integrated 10/100Base-T Ethernet Lan (Rj-45 Connector) 802.11B/G/N Wlan + Bluetooth

Hi Cazz,
1. Please provide a full diagnostic, see Part B in the guide located here: https://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/24771.page
2. RE: • Standard Memory: 4096Mb 1600Mhz Ddr3 System Memory (1 Dimm) 1X 4Gb , For editing you need to increase the Ram to at least 8, and I would prefer you to have 12GB.
3. Your HDD RPM of 5400 will mean you'll have a slower* response times when actioning changes in the program - adding video etc. It is manageable but you should look to replace with a 7200 SATA HDD or a large SDD which would be super fast compared to the 5400rpm. Just my opinion.
*Speed is relative,. If you find delays in the program bringing in data this will likely be the cause.
4. Overall the set up looks good.
5. Update your Graphic card drivers, a diagnostic will tell us how old they are and often new computers have older drivers.
6. The fix. This is a Registry Hack from Adrian. https://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/27040.page#147333

I hope some of that helps.

you can try to disable HW decode first. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Full diagnostic attached - CazzDxDiag.txt
2. I know you regard CyberLink's recommended requirements for PD11 as inadequate, but surely something must be possible with that amount of memory, otherwise it would be false advertising. The projects I plan are small, and each of my experiments thus far has been small (i.e. not one project being continually added to, and thus growing), until the green screen arrived.
3. I'm patient, if something is slower to render or update as I work because of the speed of the the HDD, that is OK as long as it *functions*. Surely the different preview quality options are designed for this reason. As you say, it's all relative.
5. I'm keen for guidance about what is gleaned from my diagnostic report re: Graphics Card drivers and where/how to update them. I'm new to Windows 8, and I don't know anything about how to update drivers generally.
6. The fix. I'm yet to try this, makes me slightly nervous. Registry Hack, as pictured. So, I change 7 to 9, eh?

[to the King] How does one 'disable HW decode', sorry for not knowing more about all this!

- In Windows 8 press the Windows button + R
- Type regedit and ok it
- navigate (by double-clicking) to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cyberlink\PowerDirector11
- Scroll down list to find 'Videorenderer' and click on 'vmr7' to change value
- change 7 to 9 and OK
- close window and you're done!

Well, I've changed 7 to 9 and it does appear to have done the trick and the green screen is gone. I've only got three still photographs and one little clip in the timeline at the moment! Whew, this is all a bit nerve-wracking (registry edit!!)

Hi Cazz,
Good to know you did the Hack and it worked.

Windows 8 64bit set up.
Minimum requirements.
RE: http://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdirector-ultra/specs_en_GB.html?&r=1
6GB DDR2 or above recommended for 64 bit OS & 3D editing
You should be able to add additional Ram without too much hassle.

Graphic Card Driver updates. Please visit the AMD website and look for the latest driver. Do NOT rely on Windows8.
