Hi everyone,

I updated PD and now the application is useless. It crashes even during saves. I have a GTX980 and for some reason, it is now not supported. I am currently updating the drivers for it but am wondering if anyone else is having issues. I can't render h265s without it locking up and now just saving files is crashing it.

This is the Error message I am getting.

The program PDR.exe version 18.1.2405.0 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel.

So I updated the drivers to the GPU. There has to be something wrong with the update. HW acceleration is acting strange as some profiles it is enabled and others it is disabled. Nothing makes sense as far as how it is acting. Before the GPU update, h264 was able to use HW and h265 was not, now it is h265 on some settings and off on h264.

Just tried to render again to h265 and it crashed. I guess I should never update something that is working.

I guess I'll go back to some other program to do my video rendering until this is all figured out.

If someone does have some tips I would love to hear them.

Hello,

Please contact CyberLink technical support about this ASAP if you haven't. Be sure to include your DXDiag file, which you should also attach in this thread as requested.

I have sent a support ticket. I disabled hardware acceleration altogether in preferences and have now rendered the two projects I had to finish tonight, slower but at least done.

I attached the DxDaig in the support and I have included it in this thread now. I will use another program until it is fixed for the time being.

I'm getting BSODs with any of the Nvidia graphcis card I have tested. It points out the driver, but it is up to date and I have tried different versions as well. I even tried a new install of Windows to no avail. It's a random BSOD while editing, nothing specific, just complex projects with several video tracks. On small projects with little complexity I found no issues.

Setup is Ryzen R5 3600 + RTX 2070. Tried also GTX 1070 and 1080Ti, same issue. No issues when using RX 580, so it's nvidia specific. I even tried another motherboard, the X370 Killer SLI, I'm now using Biostar X570 GT8...

I wonder if I can go back to version 17 with the subscription plan, I dont recall having issues back then.

With all of the PD crashes shown in your DxDiag results, I'm pretty sure that the program will have permanently disabled several producing profiles. Please see this thread for steps to recover them, and for now, it seems like not using hardware acceleration is the best workaround with your situation.

I know it is related to coding on the CUDA C/C++. My guess is someone failed at coding, maybe too excited about the Christmas season and not their job, lol.

I am waiting for an update that will fix the program. Support is less than helpful at this point. They want a full-screen screen capture of what it is doing, it locks up just like a still picture would show. Only Window's system manager reports there is an issue and I have given them the error message already.

I think at this point only a native English speaker can help with their support contact and I haven't found one yet.

We are thinking of leaving their 360 program, the last 5 updates have been something else. We want to create projects not troubleshoot the program we need to create the projects with.

Ross

On another note, going back a version even within PD18 makes your projects useless as they say it was created with a newer version and can't be opened forcing you to go back to the latest issue filled version. I have never had that with AVID, Pinnacle, Premiere, this is the main reason we are in talks about killing our subscription services. The program is great when it works for the most part but It stops production altogether until issues are fixed on Cyberlink's side in the form of an update. This and this alone is basically the stupidest thing ever, fix at least this issue and we'll be able to deal with updates that fail by resorting to the earlier one that worked.

I am really hoping someone from Cyberlink reads this footnote, end of rant.

I renewed my 365 subscription in late November and and the program started crashing about the second week.(never had that problem before) I have contacted tech support and followed their instructions, updated graphics driver, deleted and re-installed 365 and now it shuts down in less than a second after I install and launch the program.
Jenny, don't stop ranting! I have a program that will not even open, but my 365 day subscription keeps ticking away!

Dears,

in the same boat here !! yellfrown
Same release of PD18, and same crash issues...suddently... When I save, when I replace a transition... seems to be random...
I still can produce at the right speed the movie production in H264 or H265. But some time, when I'm about to select an output format in the combo box, there is a kind of lag... weird again...

As you I just renewed my 365 subscription in late November, and was very unpleased, by the way, to have to pay more than new subscribers cryyell. Contacted the PD sales support anf they replied me that I'm in the 365 renewal process !! thanks to consider me as stupid faithful customers yell. Do you think I'm irritated ???! I don't know of many other users having such serious issues with PD18/365, so it would appear that something else about your system besides video drivers is the root cause. Tech support may need to setup a remote diagnostic session to get a deeper understanding of what's going on, and they'd then either let you know what can be done on your end, or come up with a hotfix to solve the issue.

There's not much forum members can do to help, other than to have you try simpler projects and build up in complexity until you find something that might be causing the crash. Are you able to open PD and start a new project? What happens if you work with the sample clips from the media library? Are you able to do the same edits when working with your desired source clips?

HI

thanks, I'm exchanging with CyberL support. Wait for their 2nd answer...
I remenber there was a WIN10 update, and if I right remember, PD365 crashes appear after... but not sure if it's the source of the issue...
Even with simple project I can have randomly crash with a save "Ctl+S" command... I7 950, 10 Go Ram, GTX960, SSD 256, HD 2 To, with professional music devices.

May be a solution...

I suppress the latest WIN10 Version 1909, update KB4530684 and.... seems to be far more stable so far.... no more WIN crash for 15 mn....
Will see working more with PD365... I7 950, 10 Go Ram, GTX960, SSD 256, HD 2 To, with professional music devices.

I can confirm: 2 hours video edting and no more Win10 crash !cool
The source of the issue seemed to be the win10 update KB4530684.

so, ... happy... but a shame for MS with their updates, that regularly lead to bug and crashes, depending on the application or devices we can have... less on Mac you say ?? too bad, I'm on PC win10... I7 950, 10 Go Ram, GTX960, SSD 256, HD 2 To, with professional music devices.

I'm very happy that you've tracked down the culprit and are able to use PD now! I hope this helps out other people in your situation.

I've had 1909 installed since Nov 23rd and haven't had any issues, but as you noted, that's not always the case with Windows updates.

Thanks.
Still have a weird behavior when going to "Produce" tab, with my last edition (a 20 mn long video for utube):

  • at 60% to go into "Produce", take a while, display "Do not respond", and after few second access the Produce page

  • when selecting the output format, there are some lags and sometimes can't select the format frown

  • after a while can select the right out format...

  • but no longer crash

So I suppress another win10 update and there is still one "security update" I can't suppress from the jan 2nd 2020...

Ok can work, no longer win10 crash in editing, but still that "bug" when selectiing out format to produce.
No issue with another movie, and don't know what is the source for that "Produce" issue... I7 950, 10 Go Ram, GTX960, SSD 256, HD 2 To, with professional music devices.
