I have the Movie Edit Pro pdf manual. The word timecode appears once on page 72 in relation to DV and HDV only. I have yet to see it used for avchd. Perhaps you meant HDV.

The create time and date of an avchd or any files is obtained by viewing the windows properties. Only DV-AVI files have a recorded running timecode. No other editors sold including Magix reads timecodes from avchd files. See the attached page from the Magix user manual. The windows properties creation date is used instead for the avchd files.

Almost all video editors do read DV-AVI timecodes only including the Magix and PD15. See page 27 in the PD15UG on sorting by creation date, page 62 on using DV-AVI timecodes, page 162 DV-AVI timecode. Running timecode was supported in the earlier versions of PD. Throughout the manual references are made for timecodes but they have different meanings. Don’t get confused by this.

I can get the timecode from an avchd file but no video editors including Magix utilize it. You can create a title manually in PD15 and use the creation date by simply viewing the creation date in the file properties.

Really? Sounds so definitive, but I pull running real timecode off avchd files from Canon, Sony, Panasonic consumer cameras all the time!

The timecode available varies somewhat, Canon typically does every sec, other brands every few to maybe 5 seconds. I don't have a definitive answer on what rule they use, other than experience says it varies. I pull the timecode off the raw avchd MTS files with a little utility which autogenerates a subtitle srt file easily read into editors like PD. It is very handy for some editing tasks. It even works fine if several source camera clips are muxed together with like tsMuxeR.exe or similar. One then gets the proper date/time when each time slice was recorded.

Attached is a pic of a srt file (1312 lines) read into PD14 and display of avchd actual recorded running timecode as subtitles.

No reason I know of that PD couldn't incorporate the capability as the information is available on many camera source avchd files I’ve used in editing.

This is interesting. I only wanted to answer the OP question. Forgotten about subtitles use in PD15 as I have no use for it in my created videos. My HD Writer software utilize subtitles as a running display if toggled on (every second). I can read timecodes from other avchd files like from canon by using a hex editor. I already stated that in the last sentence of my previous post to the OP.

There are posts from users that I know or believe that you have the answer to but you declined to answer them. I also declined to answer some of them so the user don’t get the correct answer or knowledge to do it if I feel that it might be frowned upon by Cyberlink. Why is this? You did not follow up on one user after being out a week. I did not give more information to that user believing that you wanted to follow up.

I have never waited for any contributor to give a wrong answer in order to bash them. I might add to the answer or give an alternate answer. Case and point. One senior contributor gave the wrong answer that was followed up by a user who gave the correct answer and was then discredited by the senior contributor. I followed up nicely with supporting information showing that the user was right and got a response by cyberlink …… supporting that senior contributor. I give up. It was not in the PD forum.

I do respect all contributors including you. I believe that in this post that it would be useless to give subtitle information to the OP who did not request it at all. I could not find any editor that work like the Magix until the OP pointed it out.

I really would like to use this time/date feature. BTW: I also have and uses Sony Vegas Pro, and this editor can (could) also use time code with a use of a macro. This macros is unfortunately not updated by the user anymore and hence the latest version of VegasPro stop working with time/date.

Can you point me to the solution with the .srt subtitle method ?

I use avchd2srt http://www.avchd2srt.webs.com/ as it fits my simplistic needs of pulling timecode information directly from the raw avchd video file which was exactly the OP question. One may desire to trim down the srt file if you don't want info every xx seconds to suite individual needs.

Other programs maybe available as well, like http://www.aunsoft.com/how-to-display-avchd-mts-timecode-conversion/ with their statement:
"But only few MTS players, MTS converters and AVCHD editors are able to read the timecode integrated in the MTS files and get the timecode from AVCHD file displayed and converted." as well as possibly others.
I've NEVER used Final Mate by Aunsoft so I've got no experience to share but it implies it might perform the task. It also implies other AVCHD editors are able to read the timecode as well, who would have thought.

You might want to add the feature suggestion to this list, http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/51512.page#post_box_270248 you never know, the capability might be added.

I log in periodically like most people probably and read a few recent threads, if I feel like it, I respond. My apologies tomasc, next time I won't post if you've commented in a thread so not to provide accurate information compared to the current thread contents. FYI, I have absolutely no obligation to answer anyone’s question nor respond to anyone's post even if I know the answer! As some here, my time/response is totally at my discretion.

Changing a 15 to 14 in a pds file will in no way correct the pds file to be PD14 compatible, I've done it here http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/49811.page#post_box_262060 successfully for someone so yes I have some experience. But I guess the thought is right, make PD15 pds file look like PD14, kind of a trivial answer though but somehow solved OP needs.

PD15 and Magix doesn’t use the avchd timecode in editing that I could find. Magix can use the file creation date for a title. PD15 users can duplicate this by using the same file creation date but manually. They can achieve this without using other software.

The adobe forum link I provided a link to show that users can be civil to one another in answering even though adobe cs6 doesn’t utilize them the way the OP asks. No one else there troll the forums to bash another’s response.

I am going to stay off the PD15 forums. I don’t want to answer any more questions here.

Not for me to step in here really, but we have all been members and active contributors over the years with just short of 8000 posts between us, the vast majority of which have been substantive and explanatory, not just "thanks" or "glad you got there" or whatever.

I reduced my participation on the forum a few years ago because of changes in my personal life, periods of extended travelling and I came to dislike the changing atmosphere on the forum at that time. I have come back a little over the last 12 months but I find myself out of the habit of keeping up to date with everything, and I still do little enough editing, so I have much to gain from you two and others.

Both of you are experienced contributors, both of you bring benefits to the forum, I, and many others, have gained knowledge from both of you over the years.

So..... please don't let this disagreement spoil your participation on the forum and reduce the benefits you can both bring to others.
