Micea...I dont know why you insist on saying it doesnt when I have stated several damn times that it works....no im not talking about those damn demo videos from that site....im talking ripped UHDs in .mkv format.

However you feel to justify and get your purchase refunded go ahead and do it, just dont say it can and cannot do without troubleshooting.

those damm videos are working perfect on igpu but not on nvidia cards.....so powerdvd or nvidia it's the fault

Why is there concern playing those specific demo files that are only a few minutes long anyway? As i mentioned, those files play on the default Windows10 media app (which is not running intergraded gpu on my processor)...PowerDVD17 played them well a few times, however it wasnt flawless.

Well, I totally agree with MicreaForce, as I am in a similar situation. Have two computers, both with Intel Haswell-E proccessors, one with a GTX 1080 GPU, the other has an RX 480. So even if I did find a site that sold UHD 4K HDR Blu-Rays in a 5.25" form factor to fit within my PC case, this worthless requirement for needing a Kaby Lake processor is FUCKING INSANE! Plain and simple. Why the Hell would I "DOWNGRADE" two computers to watch somthing that is now beyond ridiculous. I have waited on upgrading PowerDVD from version 13 Ultra on either computer, waiting for the opportunity to watch content, and now I can't.

Pleae don't reply that you can with "ripped" content to .mkv files, "Bryan***", as noticing from the CPU you listed, you either got the version wrong (I7470) which according to Intel ARK, there is no such thing, so you are "Pirating? movies on a i7-4770/K, or actually have an i5-7400, which is a KABY LAKE processor!

And based on what MicreaForce received from CyberLink support, they are putting the blame on others. Sorry, but I believe the blame is also to be put on CyberLink, since they have been working on this release for quite some time, hence my not purchasing past version 13, and now will not purchase any follow-up version. They would have had to work with all the manufacturers and content providers to be able to have this "Pass the Test". So yeah, Intel, Sony, Warner Bros., LionsGate, Fox, etc. are all in this together to "Milk more money from the consumer". Guess they are in as bad shape with YouTube with all the Ad Money disappearing as well!

The CPU is an i7-4790 non K variant...its a normal Haswell processor..not Sandy Bridge, Kaby Lake..etc. I had written that reply while I was at work and must have been a typo since it was a reply on a cellphone sorry...

In Cyberlinks defense, their product WORKS as they intended it to be. As a test, without going crazy searching for content, try a 720p or 1080p movie and activate HDR through the Truetheatre enhancement. You will notice that it activates (considering the cable, tv and all other criteria is met).

Hitman, Shadow Warrior 2 and RE7 also activate HDR properly on my setup so its not a technical limitation on my end.

Yes, the 4k hdr files you are attempting to get to work from demo-uhd-3d.com do NOT work with the media player. For some reason, I cannot get those files to play on any media player well except for the default Windows TV app, but that player does not activate HDR at this moment..ive read it will on a future update. Those files DO play flawlessly when it is played on my TV via a USB dongle. So its just a matter of optimization because my TVs processor is nowhere near a GTX1060.

The Kaby Lake requirement is only for physical media. (Again, this is an issue that will take time to resolve as ive read Nvidia is releasing drivers for Netflix 4k support via the Edge Browser and Netflix Win10 app. I believe 4k uhd will work outside of the Kaby requirenents once they sort out the coding for the copy protection.

Lastly, I have enjoyed ripped 4k uhds with embedded HDR and it seems to work well with Cyberlinks software, better than anything else available for the PC at this moment (including MPC and the MadVR plugin for HDR bypass.

I has already been asnwered to this question those videos work only if you have cpu/gpu intel

proof :

http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/52150.page

So i downloaded some HDR video from below website to play on my Kaby Lake NUC (7i3)

i have tried atleast 4 diffrent video and all of them plays fine
and my LGOLED tv showing the HDR logo indicating its receiving HDR
metadata. but NO Audio!!

if i play the same HDR video in window mode (not fullscreen
exclusive) the audio works fine, same for any other non HDR video (both
4K and HD)

also while playing any HDR video it seems the audio option in
setting is greyed out and i cant change any setting (i.e: Audio output
mode)

Wondering if someone else has any such issue?

only reason i bought PowerDVD 17 it to be able to play HDR video (not via UHD Blueray but from my HDD)

Just to clearify, i have the latest 1.66v HDMI firmware installed
also i tried connecting the NUC directly to tv as well as through my
Marants AV8802A processor.

Any help would be appreciated!

A quick feedback of my hdr experience with powerdvd 17.

I have a GTX1080 with a skylake CPU (so not a kabylake) and I'm running Win10 1607 (Anniversary Update). FYI Shadow Warrior 2 and RE7 are working well in 2160p hdr.

I tested hdr demo from http://demo-uhd3d.com/ and mkv files from various origin.

Both Sony demos are working fine in HDR:

 • Sony_BRAVIA_OLED_HDR.mp4

 • Sony_4K_HDR_Camp.mp4

With most others demos, like LG_Cymatic_Jazz_HLG_Astra_teststream.ts, powerdvd is crashing.

Regarding mkv files, no crash, but only few are switching in hdr mode, most of them are displayed in sdr. I checked metadata with MediaInfo Tool, all mkv are in 10bits depth so it is still a mystery for me.

I’ve noticed some differences in HEVC format profile, not sure it's revelant.

Edit: according to this article https://ngcodec.com/news/2015/11/16/fpgas-are-best-for-encoding-high-dynamic-range-hdr-content-with-hevch265 there are multiple metadata requirement for hdr.

These are missing with my mkv files:

 • Color container/primaries: BT.2020

 • Transfer function (OETF/EOTF): SMPTE ST 2084

Although the nv gpu model has very powerful computing power, it does not present it can play anything without others compatiblity support.

they don't claim support the hdr for nvidia gpu at the begining.
I may consider it is not a issue-fixing, but adding a feature or compatibilities.

No offense, let's not being so harsh. What do you think?

I just want to chime in with my experience with PowerDVD 17 with HDR

I have 2 systems

 1. HTPC with a Titan X Pascal -> LG OLEDC7P which support Dolby Vision and HDR10 (Haswell)

 2. Main PC with SLI Titan Xp -> Samsung KS8000 which support HDR10 (Broadwell-E)

Both PC is on the SLOW Ring for MS update so it's on the 7/17 update. My experience with PowerDVD 17 has been on and off; hit and miss. Some videos will play and others will as washed out SDR. Playing directly via USB or even using the DLNA will work 100% of the time

I also have a GTX 1070 and Kaby Lake architecture with the UHD Pioneer Optical disc. Unfortunately my Asus Maximus VIII Ranger does not have an HDMI 2.0 port, I believe I can use the display port with an adaptor to get around this but have not verified.

I just want to vent and say it is pretty lame that I can't use my Nvidia GPU HDMI 2.0 port for playing back purchased 4k HDR media. Switching back and forth between the GPU for everyday computing/gaming and to the iGPU just for watching 4k movies is a clugey mess, not to mention a PITA. Just write the SW so I can use my superior graphics card processor instead of the weak intergrated Intel BS. Let Intel unlock the HDMI 2.2 protection stream and send it to my Nvidia GPU HDMI 2.0 port for viewing so I am not switching back and forth between GPU's.

Weak sauce CyberLink.

I think you meant HDMI 2.0a/b ports as there isn't a HDMI 2.2 port...there is however HDCP 2.2 protection method.....

Only this year 2017, HDMI2.1 was introduced

Does your motherboard support SGX? What the Advisor says to you?

Both CyberLink and Pioneer say adapters are not allowed. However what else is the LSPCON onboard chip than an internal adapter, right? KabyLake does not have a native HDMI 2.0/HDCP 2.2. With an active DP to HDMI 2.0 adaptepter it may work. Maybe.

It is Nvidia who must make their GPUs compatible with UHD BD requirements.

The easiest way to switch the outputs is (in Windows) to create two-monitor setup for your single monitor. One is connected to the iGPU and the other to the video card. Switching the monitors then takes like 10 seconds. .

Yes it does support SGX, software enabled only. Advisor says it is not running, but HWinfo64 says it is.

I need to try this, was reading somewhere I could get a splitter to send one side to my 4k display and the other to my older AVR for HD audio DTS-HD and Dobly True HD. When I send it through the TV it downconverts to just DTS or DD.

I guess I am having a hard time understanding how my GPU can't pass this data if it has the HDMI 2.0 port and is getting the bitstream unlocked from the CPU. Probably because I am not a programmer by trade.

This is still a PITA for me, and the Intel iGPU looks terrible compared to the Nvidia
