PowerDirector 13 broke PowerDirector 10

I keep old versions of PD around for benchmarking purposes.

After installing PD13 on my Win7 system, PD10 no longer works. It crashes on startup.

I also tried this on a Win10 beta VM with a new install - same issue.

This is with paid versions of PD10 Ultra, and PD 13 Ultimate.

On the Win10 VM, if I uninstall PD13, it makes PD10 work again.

No such luck on my bare metal Win7 system . There does not seem to be any way to make PD10 work anymore, short of reinstalling the OS, which I don't want to do.

Is anybody else seeing this issue ?

I am able to run PD9, PD11, PD12, PD13 - all paid versions, on the same Win7 install. Only PD10 is a no-go.

I don't think it's fair to have multiple versions installed. I recommend you install only the latest version. Messaggio agli italiani che utilizzano PowerDirector , ColorDirector o AudioDirector : http://bit.ly/1rKjrav

I don't think it's fair that PowerDirector 10 no longer works even if I uninstall the newest version and all other versions.

I should not have to reinstall the OS to get PD10 to work again.

You probably don't need to reinstall the os. Do you think a reinstall of PD10 only will get it working again. Each version install on it's own folder.
There are the cleaners for each different PD versions: http://www.cyberlink.com/support/product-faq-content.do?id=16457&prodId=4&prodVerId=1052 but I would hesitate to use them as it might affect the other PD versions that you have installed. You can contact Tech Support to make sure first.

Each version of PD was installed in its own folder, of course.

I have tried uninstalling all 5 versions of PD that I have, rebooting, and then reinstalling just PD10 and then the latest PD10 patch.

PD10 still does not work anymore - it crashes on startup. This is on my main Win7 bare metal OS.
I have found no way to get PD10 to work anymore. I actually see the problem on 2 different Win7 physical boxes that I have.

I'm sure a restore point or restore OS from backup would work, but I would like a real solution that's not as heavy as this.
I had PD9/PD10/PD11/PD12 all coexisting peacefully before installing PD13.

Just saw your last post after I edited my thread above. Since you are willing to reinstall all of them, the PD cleaners in the link might work well. After hearing that you spent so much time already, I think contacting tech support first is a good idea. I think email support is free.

Thanks, I will try the PD10 cleaner.
I notice however that the PD13 cleaner is missing.

In any case, the experiment I did on a fresh VM installing first PD10, and then PD13, and seeing PD10 crash on startup, suggests that PD10 and PD13 they still won't be able to coexist. And that is ultimately my goal.

One last thing. After using that PD10 cleaner and reinstall, and if it still crashes then install the latest patch for PD10 and check again. Just saw this in this link: http://www.cyberlink.com/support/product-faq-content.do?id=14947&prodId=4&prodVerId=-1&CategoryId=-1&keyword=reinstall .

The cleaner did not work. It does not appear to do anything.
It does not even uninstall PD10.

I did the following, starting with PD9/11/12/13 installed.
1. ran the cleaner
2. installed PD10
3. activated PD10. it still crashed on starutp
4. ran the cleaner . That seemed to have no effect - it did not uninstall PD10
5. installed the latest update for PD10
6. ran PD10 - again, still crashed.

I'm pretty much out of ideas. I did submit many crash dumps to Cyberlink support. Hopefully they will look at them.
I will file a support ticket.

The Cyberlink Cleaner does not actually remove any part of the program, it cleans up the registry keys so that you can delete the files in the Powerdirector folder in Program files and to be able to install the program if the computer thinks Powerdirector is already installed.

If you really want to remove Powerdirector you need to use the Windows Control Panel > Programs and Features or use Revo Uninstaller Downloadable program. And/or remove the program files in the Cyberlink Powerdirector 10 folder.

If Powerdirector is crashing on startup after a clean install, you may have Windows OS problems.

Powerdirector needs a proper Video system with a proper video driver, Apple QuickTime is also required.
Enough RAM and Enough Hard Drive space is needed also.

Yes, I have removed/installed it many times so far.

I have a proper video driver, nVidia 337.88. I have the latest Quicktime.
I have 32GB of RAM and multiple terabytes of disk space. None of these are the problem.
PD9/11/12/13 still run fine. Only 10 has problems. I don't think the problem is the OS.
All my other apps run fine as well.

IMO, there is something between the various versions of PD that conflict with each other.
Have you actually tried to have PD10 and PD13 installed side by side on the same machine ?

Or am I the only one to have tried that ?

I Have PD 11, PD 12 and PD 13 installed on the same computer.

I did have PD 9 installed also but I removed it after installing PD 13 for the fact there are fewer people using PD 9 and PD 10.

I am not having problems of conflict between the various versions of Powerdirector, except for a doubling of content in PD 13 from the content in PD 12. That does not cause any problems of use. You just choose the effect you want to use.

What is your version of Powerdirector 10?
Is it retail or was it Bundled with your computer or some software?

Yes, so do I, those 3 versions are able to coexist fine.

My version of PD10 is Ultra, on a retail CD purchased at Fry's electronics.

I believe if Cyberlink intended for the newer PD11/PD12/PD13 versions not to coexist with PD10, then the installer for the newest version of PD would remove the old version.

For example, if you install PD8 first, and then PD9, the PD9 installer removes PD8.
But the installers for the versions after PD9 do not remove any of the previous versions, so I believe they should be able to coexist.

In fact, PD10/PD11/PD12 were able to coexist fine, until PD13 was installed.

If you get the chance, could you install PD10 on your system that's already got PD13, and see if you are running into the same startup issue ?

Please update the PD10 to the latest bits also. In some cases in my tests, the original PD10 bits from the CD starts, but once updated to the latest patch - it no longer does. The original version on the CD is build 925 which has too many bugs to be usable, so I need the latest patch for PD10 to use it.

PD 10 is the one version I do not own.

I have PD 8, PD 9, then PD 11, PD 12 and PD 13. I also have a very old PD 7 that was an upgrade from PowerProducer 5.

I only have PD 11, 12 and 13 installed on this computer.

Thanks, I have verified that the patch works with PD10 64-bit release 2231 and PD13 64-bit release 2307 . I am able to use both.

Now I will reinstall the other versions of PD and see if I can make them all coexist.

Hi Julien,
Thank you for the update info on the fix working for you.
Why re-install old versions that you'll likely not need to use? If I were to choose a version to install again I think it would be PowerDirector 8. PDR8, 'cos it's more basic that the later versions and had an older type of approach that would compliment a newer version.

I just installed pd13, and it killed pd10. But to be honest I have 11,12 and now 13 on this computor so its no biggie, Dont think i have used 10 since i installed 12. My reason for not removing the previous version was that the later versions can be buggy to start with as has been the case with 13 yet again.
