Magic Motion is missing
[Post New]
I used this product (Power Director 10 Ultra) for the trial period and loved it. When I purchased it I bought the CD because my download time is very bad. I have installed it and the magic motion is missing. It is simply a blank screen where it used to be templates. There are three buttons there... "Reset"..."Motion Designer"..."Apply to All"... but none of these work. There are no templates in the screen where there were on the trial version. You can see a screen shot here: www.flickr.com/photos/40683565@N03/6828660166/ I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice now. I have installed from my disc and from the download links provided. Nothing works. Everything appears to be there but the magic motion. This product is useless to me without the magic motion. I can get absolutely no help from Cyberlink. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have a major project that needs to be done and am getting desperate.

Hi Rebecca,
Have you installed the Contents packs? Looks to me as though you still need to.

I just now went back to my files and tried to install again. This is the messages I got....

CyberLink PowerDirector 10 content Pack I has been detected in your system. Please uninstall first. Do you want to uninstall CyberLink PowerDirector 10 Content Pack I?

CyberLink PowerDirector 10 content Pack II has been detected in your system. Please uninstall first. Do you want to uninstall CyberLink PowerDirector 10 Content Pack II?

I didn't uninstall and reinstall because I have already done that twice. Do you have any other suggestions? I simply don't understand why the trial would work and not the product I paid for.

Thank you for your help in advance.

Hi Rebecca -

When you go to Create Disc > Menu Preferences, is there a bunch of Menu templates?

Are you running a 32-bit OS or 64-bit? Dafydd - wasn't there a previous issue with motion templates on 32-bit systems? (yonks ago)

Cheers - Tony

I'm on a 32-bit OS... but why would the trial version work on this system? Is there anything I can do about it?

And yes... if I go to Create Disc > Menu Preferences there are 12 templates, an option to download more, and an option for no template.

Hi REBECCAD ,
Please use the Control Panel and uninstall all:
PowerDirector 10
Contents Packs I and II

(Just a thought: Did you uninstall the trial before installing PD10?)

Please then go to: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/20744.page
... and apply the three cleaner tools, this might help.

Now re-install PD10 and the contents packs.

Please ensure you install in the correct order;
PD10
Contents packs
Open PD10
Apply the Activation Key
Apply the latest patch.

Please report back. You mentioned you have reported the matter to CyberLink support, please provide the online support ticket number (important) if the issue continues.
Did you purchase the disc etc through CyberLink?

Tony, not for PD10.
PD9: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/18193.page

Rebecca, Please provide a diagnostic file, might help here. Part A & B in the gude: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/7958.page

I did remove the trial before I installed the disc. I am trying to remove it once again... but am having issues. If I go to my control panel to uninstall it isn't there... but I can pull it up from program files and my desktop icon. How do I find it to uninstall? Any suggestions? This is way over my head. I'm assuming it is in the registry somewhere? I have never experienced anything like this before.

The ticket numbers are... CS001117670 CS001119716 CS001121627

I did purchase the disc through Cyber LInk.

I am hoping I did the diagnostic file correctly and that it attaches properly for you. If not let me know.

Thank you so much for all your help!

Hi Rebecca,
Thank you for attaching the data and providing the ticket numbers.

1. The Control Panel/PD10 uninstall issue: By the links to PD10 (and to uninstall) not being present in the Control Panel indicates to me you have possibly applied the CLCleaner tools previously or before attempting to uninstall now. You mentioned you can still access the program through the desktop shortcuts - that would be a CLCleaner application effect.

2. Following on from item 1. An overwrite re-install of PD10 and the contents pack should correct the situation.

3. The diagnostic file reveals you have an under resourced computer for video editing anything beyond SD (Standard Definition). Your graphic card drivers are nearly 5 years out of date for example; Driver Date: 7/28/2007

4. In PD9 the issue wasn't resolved and CyberLink could not replicate the issue. I don't think I'm able to assist you further, I don't have a solution. I will ask CyberLink head Office to look into your case.

5. Solution, a bit drastic, get a more powerful computer for video editing, the one you have is dire and is likely to be the cause of the problem.

Sorry to be a bearer of bad tidings.

Hi Rebecca,

Just following on from Dafydd's reply, in particular his last point:

5. Solution, a bit drastic, get a more powerful computer for video editing, the one you have is dire and is likely to be the cause of the problem.

That's frankly not true. The age/power of your computer is categorically not the cause of the problem.

There could be a software conflict if you've (un)installed lots of software over your computers lifetime that could be causing a problem, in which case a fresh install of the operating system is advisable (preferably an upgrade to Windows 7). However, that's highly unlikely given your description of the problem.

You can expect video editing to be slower than a newer machine, but you've obviously been successful using the trial so you know what kind of performance to expect.

I would however follow Dafydd's advice about reinstalling the PD trial, hopefully this will allow you to fully uninstall it again via the control panel. I would reboot between installing and uninstalling each time, i.e.:

* reboot
* install original PD trial
* reboot
* uninstall PD trial via add/remove programs
* reboot
* use clean up tools mentioned by Dafydd
* reboot
* check that all previous PD artefacts are gone, there are some hidden folders that are mentioned in one of the FAQs, make sure they are gone as well
* once you're happy that the PD trial is completely removed, then proceed and install your new full copy of the software

Good luck.

Graham

Hi,
Point 5 was based on the capability spec of the PC rather than the issue as the resources of the laptop are very weak for HD editing. (I shouldn't have stated "cause"... since i don't know the cause)

I did not as far as I'm aware advocate the re-install of the trial.

You have made some really good pointer Graham.

I installed PowerDirector again. Then I followed the instructions above listed by Graham. I made SURE all pieces, even the ones in the hidden folders, were removed from my computer before I reinstalled. I installed from the disc. I still have the same issue... there is NO magic motion. Any advice on how to fix this issue or how to get my money back from the company would be appreciated. The program is useless to me without the magic motion.

Hi Rebecca -

You must be getting fed up with all this, especially when you've followed all the instructions.

I'm sorry that this suggestion involves the whole rigmorol again, but I'm fairly confident it will succeed. Then again, I thought some of the other suggestions would work too!

1. Download Revo Uninstaller (free) - http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html
2. Install it on your PC
3. Open up Revo Uninstaller & it will list all the software on your PC
4. One by one, select each related piece of software (boxed in red below) and click uninstall

5. Select Moderate mode - this will purge your system of registry footprints

6. At the final stage, delete every entry that's in bold text
7. Repeat till all those bits are gone!
8. Have a cup of tea while your PC restarts.
9. Install PowerDirector again - then the Contents Packs.
10. Start up PD & activate it with your CD key
11. Open up PD & put a photo in the timeline
12. Click on Magic Motion...
13. (a) rejoice because the templates are there
(b) come back in here & rouse on me for wasting your time.
14. If all is well, get the latest patch & install it - http://www.cyberlink.com/downloads/support/powerdirector/patches_en_GB.html
15. Download & install the latest QuickTime - http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/

There you are, Rebecca... a simple 15 step process, which will bring your grand total to 487!

Cheers - Tony

Tony,

I did exactly as you said... step by step. I still have the same issue. I am so discouraged! I have no idea what to do to get this to work. I have a major project that HAS to get done. I have no software to work with.

I don't understand why the trial would work and after I purchased it I can't have access to the magic motion. Are there any settings I should be looking at? I've tried to go through each little piece of the software and check it out. I can find nothing other than the magic motion not working. I've looked in detail at the setting and as far as I can tell nothing would control that. I feel like crying at this point I'm so discouraged.

Is there any way I can get my money back so I can purchase something else? Do you have any more suggestions?

I do thank you for all your help... as well as everyone else on here.

Rebecca -

I'm sorry all of that resulted in such a non-outcome. Installing a piece of software should NOT be so fraught with silly complexities.

To simple old me, if you "wipe the slate clean" & start again, it should be clear sailing (which is tricky on a slate!). Not so in this case.

Anyway, that was my best suggestion & it's failed to bring you joy.

I'm sure that, if it's within the 30-day period, CyberLink will be happy to give you a full refund. Just submit a customer support ticket https://membership.cyberlink.com/prog/support/cs/customer-services.do

That's disappointing for you, I'm sure, Rebecca. It's disappointing for us too - you were about to become a huge part of a very small percentage of non-male forum members!

Sorry it's given you so much grief.

Cheers - Tony

The sad part here is that I not only work in the computer field, but I have a degree in it. And yet I can't get this one little piece of software to work!

I do thank you once again for all your help!

Hi Rebecca,

I am one of “the very small percentage of non-male forum members! ” on this forum.
Aside from the advice and support Tony has given you, I’m afraid I’m not able to give
you any other solution that might work.

However, do you have access to another computer?
If so, could you try installing PD on that one?
At this point in time that has been my solution to get PD to work;
running it on my laptop, which has little else going on besides PD.
The “now-it works / now it doesn’t” – effect, which over time has been the
situation with me, is now giving me less grief- as I always have my main
computer (desk-top) spared the messing around.
I can uninstall / install “safe”, knowing other software will not in any way be
affected and have PD fairly running and ready to use when I need it.

hilsen Nina

Hi Rebecca,
Did you update your graphic card drivers?

Please read the result here after an editor followed Tony's instructions: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/22281.page#119271

Please install the latest QuickTime.

Nina's suggestion of installing onto another PC is a very valid option.
a) it'll confirm if this is an installation disc issue.
b) it'll point to the problem being with your PC.

Your PC is in need of replacement.

Dafydd
