powerdvd 10 ultra mkII Black levels WRONG
[Post New]
Cyberlink is aware of the issue. I contacted technical support and after I reported to them that another software - ArcSoft TotalMedia Theatre 3 - is not showing these issues under the same circumstances, they wrote this reply to me on 30th July:

"Please note that I have forwarded this concern to our Product and Development team for further analysis and they are working on the issue. (before my report about ArcSoft not showing these issues, they had replied that they would check if the issue was on their side. After my report that doubt apparently was gone.)

As soon as I will get any update from the concerned departement I will send you the solution and if you do not get any reply within a week, then get back to us.

Please feel free to contact us back for any further clarification or for any assistance related to CyberLink Products."

Tomorrow the week will be over, so if there's still no answer I'll ask if there's any progress regarding this. It could be that to them this is not an issue of the highest priority since it's obvious from the limited number of reactions on this board that only a minority actually has this issue, but since they now seem to acknowledge that it is an issue on their side they'll obviously want to resolve it.

The highlighted "tomorrow" has now been behind us for a few days and I received a reply from tech support stating they're now expecting the issue to be resolved within two weeks from now, which hopefully will be within my 30 day money back guarantee too... So a bit more patience is needed at this point.

Xander, I was having this issue as well, until I read Dave's comment. I have a Radeon HD 5450, and can confirm that setting dynamic range to full fixed it. The setting for dynamic range in catalyst control center when in the advanced view can be found by going to video in the graphics drop down menu, then going to the advanced color tab, and then clicking the check box at the bottom for dynamic range; the drop down menu to the right can then be used to change the range to full. If you have PowerDVD running in a window in the background, you can see the difference as soon as you change the value of the drop down menu.

Hi Michael, I checked at exactly the location you point out, but the only check boxes I see there are for color vibrance and flesh tone correction, no other check box to be found there... so I'm afraid this doesn't work for me. Could it possibly make any difference that mine is the Radeon HD 2900 XT version with the most recent driver for Windows 7 64-bit? I have to repeat though that none of this is an issue when I use the trial version of ArcSoft TotalMedia Theatre 3 on the very same PC, so the settings in Catalyst Control Center seem to be unrelated to this.

I think it may be a combination of an ati driver issue and cyberlink i also have a copy of tmt3 and it works fine without changing the catalyst settings dynamic range to full o-255 maybe ur older ati card does t have dynamic range enabled. Like I said enabling dynamic range works for me using full range but i must admit a few times the ati driver loses the settings and then I get crushed blacks again. It's all part of the fun of having a htpc ;0)

Good news! I got another reply from tech support and they're saying that this issue will be fixed in the patch 10.0.2020 (releasing in September or November). Let's hope for September then.

I just got referred to the 'new' update to build 2113 for reasons other than black problems but still some issue with the 1830, minor. now i really have worse than black level issues, the mk 2 decides any dvd i put in is now a 3D or blu ray and sets all the color controls back to basic ( i have ccc10.10 drivers, eah 5870 v2, and in win 7 x 64 professional) i run the phenom II x6 o Thuban 1090T BE and 8gits of ddr4 1600 . i have brand new samsung monitor2480 and 42 LG that hdmi dvi dual link no issues ever like this. now the colors are washed out in all dvds and not in vlc so it is the cyberlink power 10. i followed directions using the cl cleaner too , now i can not even uninstall the program with revo, built in nothing because it does not show up anywhere to remove it. it is in the program x86 folder physically i can see it but no tool will see it for removal. i have resorted to a whole system restore since just doing the files did no good. the icons were all gone. now , at least i have the icons back. and am back to build 1830. i should be able to use the latest build but it is not working so there may be corruption in the enormous cyberlink package i have inside the system. i also have the cyberlink bd suite oem bundle that came with the new LiteOn bd player supermulti, in my other computer i have the LG db player supermulti drive with a similar cl bd suite bundle that has no issues as yet, both are only 4 to 6months old as is all the hardware and software in both.
i have had constant contact with the support for one reason or another since i moved up from my power dvd 5 i had for a few years and continued to update at long intervals, no real attention paid and it worked just fine. i thought it was time to invest and bought power dvd 9 and then all the problems started and not stopped.

Hi John. If you hadn't pointed me to the fact that there actually WAS an update I just would have waited and waited. The player never showed on its own that there was a patch available! I installed it now and must report that the black level issue has now been resolved on my system. I just hope that all the new issues that show up on your system will be dealt with also. Good luck with that!

great, How do you like that, this is the first trip to the forum and only got here by accident. I didnt realize there was the patch or update until i was told after i sent a support ticket in and the tech let me know. i had just updated my ultra a week or so prior to the release of this latest one, in sept and only ran into problems of the nature you describe AFTER i put it in. before , i only had a nuisance type issue of a whole different nature. It would not recognize dvds all of a sudden, that it had played before and i wanted to find out how to eliminate the bug or corrupt file, whatever but i got the update from hell,it seems. I am now just getting over a system restore in order to just get playability back. I dont know what i did wrong but the update did not go exactly as the tech enumerated in the 3 or 4 simple steps. it has taken 2 days to get so i can watch dvds on PowerDVD10. lucky, i have loads of other options, only i like power dvd and have used it from v 4 or 5.

I have this same problem and TMT3 displays black levels correctly. To put it plainly, the colors of powerdvd10 look washed out.

I could not find an update for this under downloads. Anyone know where I can get the update?

i follow the links at cyberlink.com for the individual applications updates available. not the upgrades to pay for but the list of free updates that apply to my cyberlink product. sometimes mine got washed out and i had to reinstall them or parts of them. as i noted above, that has often been a real headache for me though other people man not have as much trouble as i do.

OK, on this website under Downloads > Software Updates > I see the most recent update for PDVD10 Ultra was on Sept 14th. This thread seems to indicate the update to the black level problem was just released. Am I missing something or is it backdated to Sept 14th update?

Thanks!

i didnt find out until last week that the sept release was out. i go to the site all the time too with the moovie live thing and i get hustled for other products. why i didnt find out about it for so long, is a mystery. i saw the sept date in there too and i didnt do the last update until shortly before then or around the time of that release but didnt know of it. i was dealing with support late summer too and no one told me aobut it till the past week. i have issues with it though so maybe it was a good thing.
to cyberlink Michael: my 2113 download showed up as 2111 for some reason and the launch or whatever the app above it is in the program file is at 1815. my first attempt to upgrade led me to the awful consequences and i had submitted my dxdiag and got a step by step reply in my support ticket file and i followed it to the letter and would up with the nightmare that forced (or i chose) to do a sys restore back 2days or the 40hrs it was from the install restore point, i make them daily . i am now at the 2111 app build which could be how the 2113 shows for me but i have corrected the red/cyan wash or 3D part being broken and stuck but back to the only one dvd at a time and the nuisance error that the format is not recognized by power dvd and after re boot, of course, it is recognized just fine. i had set up test dvds i knew were fine, normal and recognized or played numbers of times on the drives i use with my powerdvd.

i have th disc i got for 9 andi bought the 10 online and have one disc they sent to me and i have one of the upgrades i have done electronically since it was just power dvd 10 ultra, then to mark 2 i went from 9 to 9 ultra then to 10ultra one installer i got in april and it doesnt list the build on it only says ultra from ultra ,but the next one was from 9/9/10 and it is 1830 the installer lists it.

these are from 9/10, a day after i was given the upgrade path to the 1830 by the techs there. but it is file version 10.2110 for PowerDVD Cinema10 and for PDVDCM Service is also at file 10.2110 under the cinema
for the powerDVD10 folder the PDVDLaunhPolicy from6/15/ 2010 is file version 10.0.1815 and under it is PowerDVD10 from 9/11/2010 file version 10.0.2111.0 those are creation dates, the Activate app is dated back in march at file version 10.0.1506
Dont know what all that means but that is what it says by them i have a case number 000930945 i have been following but got nothing back yet today with my latest back to the original problem issues.
I would have taken it all out but it doesnt show up in any uninstaller i have, from revo to the advanced sys care or from mcafee or microsoft install clean up nothing sees it. they show all my bd suite that came with the bd rom super multi fromLG, i have the same deal in my other computer that runs the LiteOn version of the bd rom supermulti. so i can play bluerays but i never wanted to burn them so opted against evening giving myself the chance to pay the $25/disc it cost at that time. they are well below that now but still i do not have the time to want to read and write 50gigs and now cyberlink talks about 125 gigs on x bd? extended or super BD with 125gigs on a disc? too much information , as the kids used to say

Thank goodness I'm not the only one here. I've been sending images like this to customer support when they tell me how to adjust the brightness (apparently it doesn't really do anything). I also have an ATI card. Haven't installed Catalyst right now, and I've been resisting the suggestion to since it's clear this problem doesn't affect DVDs.

Thing is, I have PowerDVD 9. I've seen talk of and update for 10 - is there also an update for 9?
