Thank goodness I'm not the only one here. I've been sending images like this to customer support when they tell me how to adjust the brightness (apparently it doesn't really do anything). I also have an ATI card. Haven't installed Catalyst right now, and I've been resisting the suggestion to since it's clear this problem doesn't affect DVDs.

Thing is, I have PowerDVD 9. I've seen talk of and update for 10 - is there also an update for 9?

i originally bought power9 and took it to ultra and a few builds before going to 10 ultra. . i was at build 2320 when i went over and there was an upgrade or update for ultra and deluxe 9 on the page at cyberlink.com suppport. dont know to what level it is now.

Hello if you encounter this problem please help to provide:

- used PowerDVD Version and SR Number (both in the about box)
- picture of the wrong black levels
- used VGA driver Version

Thank you, in one 3 line forum post you were able to tell me where and what the s/r and version were. i had no idea what or where to look and it is after many , many contacts with my support tickets. my cs, just this one particular # has gotten attention, have not gotten back in 4 or 5 days this time.
I am using CCC10.10 latest drivers , i am using the 2123 version. I have been sent so many different copies of 1830, i can no tell you. my only option has been to use the cl uninstaller, download yet another copy of 1830. I have so many of them, i dont know what to do with them. It is the solution to everything.
I cant say the techs havent been attentive. I am not sure about the escalation levels a i am not told you can see from my vip folder just how many issue/contacts there are and the dxdiag i have sent over at least twice and i did a belarc advisor to show what levels my subscriptions, licenses are ,etc as well.cs#CS000930945 was not the one followed but: CS000933035 got followed the most. the reply to an unresloved issue is confusing and i tried to keep the same thread but got sent to a different page and thus generated a whole new cs number. i still only use the same one over and over by deleting the prior message rather than follow the link so i dont generate another cs number on the exact same issue.
and the black level was only a secondary problem that arose while attempting to find out why my power dvd10ultra mk II has bugs. It will not play 3 titles in a row anymore. it sends an error message that power dvd does not support that format on a dvd i know it does. i tested it with the same dvd that it had just played in the same drive only a short time prior (10 minutes,to one hour before) it is clearly a bug and it only just started. that is what started with the color leaving, the 3D screen getting stuck on in a non 3D monitor set up.
I have power dvd 9 ultra and it was from a standard dvd i had purchased and upgraded electronically. i also have the power dvd 10 at build 2113.15, the SR is DVD100826-02 and you can forget all those other numbers, i just had no idea where to look before.i couldnt figure out what they were directing me to for those numbers. which is why i sent along the belarc advisor to them I have been in contact with the support team and after many attempts, i still get the power dvd 10 not recognizing perfectly good dvd titles that i know are fine , not dirty, nothing wrong . it still happens after all of this. i do not get the color issue anymore, i am sure it was a side effect of so many un installations. I am nearly going mad with all of the back and forth. the last contact, about a week ago, they took me to build 1830, again, and i got there , replied to them as instructed and asked should i now go to the next, 2113 update again at that point and no one has responded in all that time. i really wanted to know if i had been told to stop at 1830 or move back up. maybe they are tired of me because the issue of the program not playing titles is still going on. i really liked the program, i have paid plenty of money for it too, over $100 from 9 to 10 alone. i do have oem bundled 8 for director, producer, label is only 2, and power2Go that came with both my blu ray players from LiteOn and LG bd rom players.so i have those installations i ave the LiteOn version here. i am sure they are the same since i updated them on the site. i also have what seems to be some copy of powerdvd i just noticed in a separate folder with the internet provider's name on it. CoxCinema , cox being the name of the isp i use and it looks as if they provided a version of it though it shouldnt have been needed in my bundled service.

i am hoping the support team will get back at some point in time because i dont know what else to do other than having to re boot PowerDVD10 Ultra mk II every time i want to watch 2 movies in a row. the issue immediately goes away and the discs which were "not supported format" 2minutes before, now they open right up and play fine. i could remove the CoxCinema powerdvd version though it had been there all along while i was having no problems with the PDVD10 ultraII and they need to shorten the darn name while they are at it.

My version is 10.0.2113.51. I don't know what a VGA driver is but I'm running Win7 64bit home premium via Bootcamp on a 2010 macbook pro. It uses an NVIDIA 320M. The driver version is 196.82 running DirectX 11. I had this exact same problem on my old HTPC which was a Acer REVO 3610 with a atom 330 1.6 and ion le graphics.

Here are pictures of the same scene in WinDVD trial, TMT trial and PowerDVD Ultra. You can see the difference in black levels but the most noticeable is when you look at the cinema bars and the overall picture (which I didn't capture). I'm not crazy, I do graphics work for a living The black levels are noticeably washed out in person, I wish I could capture this better but I just used my cell phone and focused on the same part of the scene.

You can see that WINDVD and PDVDultra have the same black level issue. Makes me wonder if they share some sort of processing component.

I have win7 x64 prof. i have the ati card: asus eah5870 v2 with the latest drivers directly from amd at level 10.10 so the drivers are as up to date ad a the current release. I stopped getting the washed out issue and mine was , as i see now, totally different. it was so much more severe, that it was non existant. it looks as if win dvd is the best among the 3 and i guess it is tough to give these the impact the real life would be.
I wasnt even on the same page with your issue here as it went away and i never had it in anything other than powerdvd 10ultra mk 2 3d, it needs a macro hot key just to keep retyping that new name.
i am no where near smart enough to be able to offer any suggestions but wish you the best in tracking the contrast and/or brightness issues down. in my LG ihave all the separate controls for advanced control of all those adjustments beyond what the faroudja circuitry in the receiver can do in conjunction with the graphics or asus controls which i either disable or turn over to the application. so, when i had the problem it was easy enough to track it down to the application being the cause but could never find out what was the conflict or catalyst that triggered it off.

It's definitely far worse in person than in the pictures. Keep in mind I took those with my phone. It's not unwatchable by any means, but having seen the Bluray's in TMT I know there is something up. My TV is setup perfectly for a standalone BR player, PS3, 360 etc...this washed out issue is application specific. It's pretty funny because if I go into windowed mode I can see blacks right next to the PDVD window that are perfect and the PDVD window content is washed out noticeably.

I'd love to get this figured out because TMT does not output BR sound properly to my receiver in bootcamp while PDVD does.

for my blue rays in pdvd10, i get the system take over, in win7 64 aero, it flashes the whole os back to basic and takes out the color. sometimes it messed up real big time and washed things out. i dont know if it was the black or white levels that took the hit. i now try to watch my blu rays via the lg bd570 because i put everything through an onkyo tx sr608 and go directly from the blu ray. i played via the pdvd but its color was not as good, it was good but i have not tried it in some time. it never occurred to me to go back and look. i am not a huge fan of bd, so many are just loaded up with bloat i am not interested in. I have some plain old dvds which are quite good visually, blu ray can provide some excellent audio and visual effects but so many dont, i get upset. i use my bd player for even the better dvds if i want them upscaled better. i get no os or application hassles that way. i have cut back on my lg bd player in the computer i built this way. have used anydvd to use in the computer to watch blu ray. i have never copied or backed up a bd and dont plan to. i have purchased stuff from england whatever region that is, 2, maybe so i can watch it here when it isnt available here but that had been for older re done things. nothing new.

I refer to it in terms of a 'bug' in the context of my system. I do not mean that the whole app has a bug in it-simply in my set up, or how i use it. i am a very active contributor to the moovielive database and for just about every movie i play, dvd, blu ray or video file i ripped to a drive (i rarely , if ever, record any streaming vid , never use camcorder) and something in its use, downloading pix or in the fancy view thumbnail files might have corrupt images, or who knows what in them. That is why i send along the belarc, dxdiag stuff so it could have been viewed by the tech staff with just what i had going on at the time. I have auto runs or process explorer i use too and check the error logs but nothing i can figure out shows up. I do not want to condemn the whole program because it doesnt work properly on my machine. I always indicated any bug theory i had was my own and I always professed my basic ignorance of all software workings; that i am just learning terminology and know nothing about process or programming at all.
I got a message back after my last post here to go ahead and install the 2113 build and report back; i had done that 2days ago after waiting 5 or more days,forget how long but it seemed like an eternity because i had the prior response from them in a day. i have not purchased any other software, like arc soft's tmt but had other movie viewers in addition to the media center that came with my version of win7. i dont think i have used it 2 times and just didnt like it. i enjoy the way power dvd is set up, always liked it and had it from v5 to6. for some long time before i got 8 with a product and then bought 9 again as a commercial version and paid ever since to get to here. i have some median software that came with a hardware purchase in another one i built but never put that in any other computer and really didnt like that one though it had tons of facets so had put pretty much all my eggs in the cyberlink basket and had hoped i could get it back to the errorless operation it enjoyed for a few years in earlier versions. it still works quite well now but i have to re boot it between movies now and it is cleared up for another batch of 2. i am hoping to track down the conflict area and have taken lots of time to submit as much info as possible to reach that goal

I am watching a blu ray movie in pdvd 10ultra and it is perfect, as clear and sharp as in the bd570 player. What i do not understand is why it is totally cpu operated. it switches over from my gpu radeon 5870 and has the option to use hardware dim and the video control dim, 3D is dim but i would be expecting that. I do use hdmi to the Onkyo tx sr608 where i can control audio well but not much to do with video control some not much.
i have no issues at this point with the bd operations other than not understanding why it will bypass the gpu completely. the load goes to 0% and Mem clock from 1200mhz default down to 900 . i have a capable processor in the Phenom II 1090T just dont understand why it happens and why the normal access to gpu option is dim.

yet, i was just looking at afterburner 2.0 on one monitor as i played back a blu ray on the other montor and the LG or LiteOn bd rom super multidrive and using pdvd 10ultra, and the gpu showed 0%,i had to check the task mgr process and graphs to make sure. and in pdvd the area on top part of the 'video' to enable hardware was dim as was the whole true theater part dim. so was the icon next to the audio bar and 3D icon that little interface had the video side dim the audio side was lit but i have hdmi and non decode dts for the receiver so nothing for audio to do.
i show the ati going down for a blu ray and it is actually doing more work watching an old black and white dvd movie that playing a blu ray. dont know why pdvd does this. i have the settings set up properly and nothing in anydvd that would stop it either.
i have asked about this issue for as long as i had blu ray and noticed it. could never figure out why such a powerful gpu would be defeated when playing them. i have always had a strong processor ,either a phenom II 965 or this 1090T but dont get it.

this sounds strange because in PowerDVD the use of DXVA is mandatory to playback BD.

Please help to provide some more information:

1. DXDIAG log file as attachment
2. list of installed Codec Packs inlcuding Version
3. list of installed Multimedia Tools like the mentioned "Afterburner"
4. Do you have installed "AnyDVD" ?

yes, i have anydvd and had the bd options checked for proper playing of cyberlink and bd. i have ued anydvd for many years and tried to keep up with the cyberlink specific issues, i cant attach an attachment here for some reason i get sent to get a new registration. the dxgiag indicates that in the gpu ati radeon driver 8.782 the dxva-hd is not supported. I do put everything from the computer through hdmi 1.4 to the Onkyo Tx SR608. as far as the codecs in this computer go, i have no idea where to locate all them. i have the latest ones for the realtec ,divx plus, wmp, real audio,and pctv latest v5,drivers and the latest quick time/iTunes update i just got as well as whatever cyberlink and microsoft have as the most current..that i know of being just installed. i try to keep what i use up to date but not sure what is in here or where to look. i have autoruns and i can go to the listed codecs and there is a huge list in the tab for 'codec' but i dont know one thing from another in there, dll. dvr, program files ,registry entry headings,it is all greek to me.
i have a belarc and a current dxdiag but cant attach it here for some reason. i have a log on name but it keeps sending me for a new one and then i cant use it. i have been a vip and/or member for some time and should have access but i dont.

maybe i can take care of my last problems getting on here...

i am looking for the dxdiag i just ran to attach maybe i can get it to upload..

no crossfire. only one gpu.
i get the gpu fired up in the normal movie viewing. it is as i would expect it. only when i put in the blu ray or hybrid bd do i see the anomaly: no action on the gpu at all and the options dimmed in the cyberlink settings areas. i could never figure it out. it happened in my other computer as well. it had the same asus eah 5870 the first version reference version, and it had the phenom II 965BE that i had oc'd to 3.8ghz. it also had zero gpu when i played blu ray. but the processor was powerful and multi core so i could still get the movie perfectly and was able to use any other programs, internet with 2 browsers going and other things.
I do not watch many blu ray movies so i guess i had just left the issue alone; i noticed it but since the playback was visually ok, other than having the browser themes get sent back to basic and aero was turned off for the duration of the bd movie playback. that is normal as i understand it.

the only codec pack i installed, and i dont remember why i did nor do i use it is the XvID Mpeg 4 v1.22 codec pack.it is in there but i cant remember why i got it. all the others would have been the ones that came with the players, real, wmp, pinnacle studio 10 or tvpc, and all the CCC amd . i do not use the built in overdrive or that stuff. only have the asus gamer installed but never use it and have the splendid disabled. i use the rivatuner based afterburner only for the gpu fan control, i do not mess with the voltage or to overclock the gpu, it is ok as it is for my needs. i cant figure out how to keep it from cycling down so low in a single monitor environment and tried everything even changing the xml from forum ideas. it still goes down so low, i get stalling when i use the movie applications. it does keep the fan speed low the asus fans are the only sounds i can hear from my computers. i have at least 8 fans in them and can only hear the gpu over 30% it is nearly 2,000rpm and it is annoying sometimes. but that is the only reason i got interested in afterburner. i had speed fan and riva tuner but they are too complex for me to work with. the graph idea in afterburner is fine for me. none of the 2D/3D profile settings ever took . it just goes super low clock speeds in single monitor. i ihave 2 monitors here so it is reasonable higher and i get no screen shake. the only thing i notice is that my 42"LG tv is listed as the onkyo tx sr608 and as a 7"screen. the generic pnp drivers are picked up too. same with my 2430 samsung monitor. i have the drivers for that but it is still seen as a generic regardless of which samsung color magic drivers i put in. they are there.
i dont know if the onkyo in the middle of everything alters pdvd need to use dxva or the gpu but i dont know why only for bd. i always thought that was odd and no one on any of the forums i posed the issue/question to had any responses at all.
