Quote: Hi Patti,

I know the trouble you had previously and the effort I went to to get data from you. I also know that I put the issue to CyberLink and I asked you to contact me again if you were still having problems - you didn't.

I do sympathize with you at having a problem now with PowerProducer. Perhaps you should have emailed me ...........

The CyberLink staff I engaged with your issues were looking to assist you. To whom have you contacted with your problems now?

Dafydd
PS Sometimes, thank you goes a long way.

"Sometimes thank you goes a long way" that's pretty insulting seeing as cyberlink says that they truly appreciate thanks, but plesse do not send a thanks unless you are requesting help. So..sorry if you were shunned. I appreciate the attempts that you made to try and resolve Power Director problems. It was my total frustration of getitng nowhere with tech support (not frustrated with you, at least you tried very hard) that made me set my computer back to a new state. Thanks again for trying to resolve this issue. You seem agitated that I did not e-mail you with my current PP problem. I was under the impression that you were speaking only of my issues with Power Director. I had no idea that you were offering help with other products as well. Sorry if you were insulted.

I contacted Tech Support and waited and waited and waited and decided my best bet was to now grab all my files and go see my daughter who has Sonic MyDVD Plus. I was able toenter all by daata to her computer and create a beautiful DVD. I had no problems with Cyberlink software and had made numerous dvds with the 2 programs working with each other.

I received this information back from tech support and can't possibly do what they want. I could understsand all these steps being necessary if the program never worked, but it did work and it was not infected by a virus. It all sounds like a bunch of stuff to do at random to possibly fix PP issues, but that could potentially make other software not work. They ask me to do many things that I totally do not understand. This is my first software in all my years of computing that has so many issues to work through to get it to work properly. I am just frustrated. I've runined at least 10 disks ina couple days trying to get PP to work and my time in trying to fix problems is so unreasonable.

Dear Benza,

Thank you for contacting Cyberlink Online Support.

I understand that you are facing problem while burning a video to DVD in PowerProducer.

Please follow the steps given below to resolve this issue:

1. If you are using internal CD/DVD writer, please make sure that it is installed on Secondary IDE as Master (Do NOT use cable select, master is recommended). If you have one CD-ROM and one DVD drive installed in your computer, set one drive as Master and other as Slave. You may contact your drive or computer manufacturer for any assistance regarding installing your drive.

2. Update the firmware/driver for you DVD writer. Please contact your DVD writer manufacturer for updated Firmware/drivers.

3. CD/DVD writers are not compatible with all type/brand of discs. Please contact your CD/DVD writer manufacturer to check the list of compatible disc with the drive. Try some different and recommended brand of blank DVD disc.

4. Empty the contents of the C:\Windows\temp folder and C:\temp folder, if you have one. Then empty Recycle Bin.

5. Defragment your harddrive. DVD video files are very large and can quickly fill your harddrive to capacity. A fragmented harddrive can cause problems during DVD burning. Make sure to defragment your drive(s) regularly.

6. To avoid any compatibility issues, please close all other software and utility applications including virus scans, screen saver and instant messaging software before you launch PowerProducer.

Now, try to burn a DVD.

If the issue still persists, try to uninstall other CD/DVD burning software like Nero, EasyCD Creator, Direct CD etc. Two burning softwares installed on same computer are known to cause conflict due to common files in them.

Also disable the XP built-in burning software. To disable the Windows built-in burning software:
- Open My Computer.
- Right-click your CD-RW or DVD drive and click Properties.
- Select the Recording tab.
- Remove the check mark from the 'Enable CD recording on this drive' check box.
- Click OK.

Now, close all other software and utility applications and try to burn a new blank DVD.

If the issue still not resolved, you may need to reinstall the PowerProducer software. Follow the step given below to reinstall your PowerProducer software:

a.)Start--> Programs -->Cyberlink PowerProducer --> Uninstall PowerProducer

b.)Start --> Run --> type "regedit" --> click "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" --> click "Software" --> click "Cyberlink" --> Delete the folder "PowerProducer".

c.)Start --> Run --> type "regedit" --> click "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" --> click "Software" --> Delete the folder "PowerProducer".

d.) Reboot your PC.

e.) Reinstall PowerProducer.

If issue still persists then please follow the steps mentioned below to resolve the issue:

1) To avoid any compatibility issues, please close all other software and utility applications including virus scans, screen saver and instant messaging software before you launch PowerProducer.

2) Increase Virtual memory :

1. Right click on "MyComputer"
2. Select Properties -> Advance
3. Click on "settings" under Performance.
4. Select "Advance"
5. Click on "change" under Virtual memory.
6. Select "Custom" and enter initial value as "512" and Max value as "1024".

NOTE: If your existing settings are higher than recommended then leave them as before.

3) Please check whether the drive where you have installed PowerProducer software has enough space on it. At least 5 GB of free space is required and recommended while burning a DVD.

Now, try to burn the DVD at low burning speed.

Now, close all other software and utility applications and then try the 'Create a DVD folder' option in the burning options screen and let us know of the result.

If the DVD folder is burned successfully then it would mean that the problem is burner specific and not software specific.

Go ahead with burning DVD only if the DVD folder is created successfully and without errors.

If issue persists then we request you to please provide us with following information to resolve the issue:

1. We request you to please send us the DxDiag.txt file.

A System diagnostic file DxDiag.txt.You can use the steps that follows to create this file:

Start --> Programs --> Accessories --> System Diagnostics --> System information --> Tools --> DirectX Diagnostics --> Save all information --> a DxDiag.txt file created.

2. We would like to request you to please sent us the screenshot where exactly you are facing the problem.

Note: To take a screen shot, please press Print Screen key on your keyboard when this error comes. Then go to Start>programs>Accessories>Paint. Paste the screen capture there by pressing Ctrl+V or alt+Edit+Paste. Save the file and send to us for analysis.

3. Burner Information related to model name and number.

4. We even request you to please send us the one or two small file where you are finding diffculties for further analysis.

Quote: This was resolved by Patti carrying out "a total restore" of her computer (wiping the hard drive) and then re-installing all software.

I did suggest to Patti to wipe her harddrive as something I would do. We had lots of PM's and I had emails from Tech Support to find the reason why this had happened.

I'm please everything is working .... well done Patti for doing "a total restore".

This may have resolved the PD errors, but now I have Power Producer errors. I was unable to burn a project after working on it for nearly 50 hours to get it perfect. I tried to burn and I get the error C00D1197. I had burnt over 100 DVD without any issues and now everything is a mess. I took the drastic measure of restoring to factory setting sof my computer and reset everything the way I did originally. Now, PD works, but PP does not. As per the usual..tech support is grabbing at straws guessing at answers and the bottom line..they wat me to restore the computer to factory setting AGAIN. I think Cyberlink software is jus full of bugs. I would toss it, but so far, I can't find anything to get the movies off my Everio camera which came with cyberlink software. My recent inquiry to tech support resulted in them having me try taking most of my software off the computer, changing all the setting, etc etc.. it is as if the only way teh software will work right is if it controls the computer. I am fed up.
Thanks for public and private responses. Tech support was of no value as I had tried eveything they said already, but opted to go step by step like they asked and nothing helped. I just may have to do the total restore of my system, but that would really be a pain to start all over again. This is what I did last night, I started removing software and restarting PD. I finally got somewhere and after removing a program working with photos, PD started again. Then, I tried putting important software back on that didn't seem to fix PD. Everything would make PD stop working. I put my virus protection, etc back on but did not even have a chance to turn it on because PD immediately stopped wroking again. I can't run a computer with no protection nor can I have PD be my last program allowed to be installed! I may go for a total retore soon.

Thanks for that registry change that I may try as well.
Tech support sent me a lengthy list of everything to try inclkuding a total new install after clearing the registry, etc. Power Director 5 still does not launch! It was working fine for months and suddenly craps out on me. Anybody have any other ideas? I've stopped popup, security, screen reolution change, and on and on. I tested the program on an old computer and it installed and ran fine so this is a true mystery!
I have used this program repeatedly for months and yesterday, I clicked on it and nothing happened. I can not ge the programto start. I have done everything from deleting, reinstalling, restoring, etc and nothing works. Power Producer works fine but the advanced video editing link in the program does not work to take me to PD. I even did the regedit to delete the folder in tehre and reinstalled..nothing..have the proper directx also.

ANY IDEAS?? I have to get this working for my JVC hardrive camera to decode the MOD files!
