I fixed my problem. When I tried to install the redist by itself, I was getting an error, but the standalone installer had a link to the log file. I read that and it said it couldn't create a folder inside of "C:\ProgramData\Package Cache". So, the first thing I tried was granting Everyone, Administrators Full Control of the folder. That didn't work, so I deleted the Package Cache folder and created a new one... Then, it worked. Once the redist package installed successfully standalone, I ran the CyberLink installer and it worked fine.
I am having the same problem and have followed basically the same steps. The VC Redist package is definitely installed on the system. There needs to be a way to skip the installation if it exists.
This Cinavia and other copy protection stuff is really ticking me off. First of all, I have the actual Blu-ray. I was attempting to watch "To Rome With Love" on PowerDVD 12.0.2118a.57. I have the disc in my Blu-ray drive. I get the inital loading screen from the disc and then it stops with the following error:

I disabled the 2nd monitor so only one was hookedup and that didn't make a difference. I killed all background apps as well.

It did play with AnyDVD HD, but as you all know, that doesn't bypass Cinavia.

I am 99% sure this is not a hardware issue. Other discs play just fine, even others that also have Cinavia.

I do not pirate or copy movies. However, I've found that having AnyDVD and other tools has become a must when it comes to watching Blu-rays on a PC due to software bugs, incompatibilities, etc. These copy protection schemes are just getting out of hand for those of us trying to be honest.

I am on Windows 8 in Desktop Mode.
My God this is frustrating.

I was happily using version 12.0.1905.56 on Windows 8 Pro RTM x64 for several weeks. Today, I noticed there was an update, so decided to download it considering this release supposedly added Windows 8 support. I downloaded it and then the installer kept giving me errors about being unable to create some directory. Yes, it was ran as Administrator.

So, I uninstalled PDVD12 altogether, and kept personal settings when asked, and then reinstalled the original full package. I then ran the update again and this time, it worked.

So then I went to watch some Blu-rays. Now, there's no audio output. The program was set to Stereo / 2 Speakers, and I am only using the analog plain jane output from my Creative XFi card. This was previously working just fine. Now, I have no audio. I tried every setting combination I could find but nothing. Audio from MP4s and other non-disc files works fine. Yes, the correct output is selected in Playback Devices.

What now?

This time, I uninstalled the program and this time ran the cleaner. I re-installed the full package I had and then ran the update. Now, when I start the program, it asks for my key. I paste it in, but every time I do, it tells me it couldn't connect to the activation server. Yes, Internet works fine on this system.

So now, I am stuck.

Is there a way to modify the patch downloads to act like a retail full installer? I find it ridiculous that I can just download 2118a and install it on a clean copy of Windows without jumping through a bunch of hoops. If I try to install the patch without a previous version downloaded, it tells me I need a previous version installed, yes the patch installs just uninstall this anyway. PLEASE CyberLink, change this. Give us just one download for full install or patch. If there is no key in the system, ask for it.

Now, what the heck is wrong with my audio?
