PD 15 Ultimate Installation Problem Involving MS Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package SP1 (x86)
[Post New]
When I tried installing PD15 Ultimate download, I got this message:

"The process cannot continue because the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package SP1 (x86) install was unsuccessful. Please contact Microsoft technical support for assistance. The installation will now abort.
"The installation of this program was unsuccessful. Please report this installation issue by going to http://www.cyberlink.com/cs-help and attaching Cyberlink PowerDirector 15.0.zip from your desktop."

I re-downloaded the PD 15 Ultimate file and tried re-installing it. Got the same message.

I sent Cyberlink technical support the zip file and the DxDiag file. I checked my PC and the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package SP1 (x86) is installed on my PC.

Cyberlick technical support sent this response:

"...In regards to to your concern, I would suggest you to download the
VC++ from Microsoft website and install again. If the issue persist that
VC++ can't be installed, suggest you to contact Microsoft for
assistance.

I re-installed Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package SP1 (x86) and tried re-installing PD 15 Ultimate. Got the same message as first time.

I checked Microsoft Community and there was a post about this issue. It says:

"I discovered that when Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package SP1 (x86) successfully installs on a Windows 10 machine it does not place the appropriate key in the registry??? Even though Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package SP1 (x86) is correctly installed and works with other applications, PowerDirector 14 as well as several other apps check to see if Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package SP1 (x86) is installed by looking for the registry key. When the Power Director installation routine does not find the requested registry key it assumes that Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package SP1 (x86) is not installed or correctly installed and aborts the installation process."

Another poster recommended this fix:

"I had the same problem and I tried for hours to fix this issue. Finally I managed to do so. My solution involved two steps.
"1) I went to the control panel and removed the newer redistributables (in my case from Visual C++ 2010)
"2) I disabled UAC (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/turn-user-account-control-on-off#1TC=windows-7)
"Then I was finally able to manually install the vcredist_x86 of VC 2008 and afterwards I could execute the setup without problems and now my Power Director is working !!
"Maybe step 1 ist not necessary, but in my case this sequence did work."

I followed the sequence but PD 15 Ultimate would still not install and I got the same message. Unfortunately, deleting the newer redistributables prevented opening some other programs. I did a restore so my PC now has all the redistributables.

Here's an exerpt from the install log file:

I'm attaching a copy of the DXDiag.txt and PowerDirector 15.0.zip files.

There must be a fix. I can't be the only one with this problem.

Can someone please help me solve this problem?

I am having the same problem and have followed basically the same steps. The VC Redist package is definitely installed on the system. There needs to be a way to skip the installation if it exists.

The package they are rejecting in the logs, 9A25302D-30C0-39D9-BD6F-21E6EC160475 , is not any of the Redistributable they linked. You might try this Redistributable

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5582 and see if that corrects your issue. Also a posting of the Redistibutables you currently have installed would help.

You reinstalled from the link you referenced in the thread or some other link?

I fixed my problem. When I tried to install the redist by itself, I was getting an error, but the standalone installer had a link to the log file. I read that and it said it couldn't create a folder inside of "C:\ProgramData\Package Cache". So, the first thing I tried was granting Everyone, Administrators Full Control of the folder. That didn't work, so I deleted the Package Cache folder and created a new one... Then, it worked. Once the redist package installed successfully standalone, I ran the CyberLink installer and it worked fine.

Relieved to see I wasn't the only one with this problem.
I tried a 2 step process based on the responses above:

  1. Deleting Package Cache folder and creating a new one, as suggested by muzicman82

  2. Suggestion by JL_JL: Install https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5582 ( I did not uninstall any previous versions that were on my laptop, i.e. 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015! I noticed 2008 had never been installed on my laptop so maybe the laptop treated it as a clean install of 2008 )

And viola, it's the only thing that worked, despite the many tries everyone in this forum had already tried.
I'm on MS Windows 10 Home 64-bit.
Hope this helps someone out there!

Hi!

The solution in my case was to

  1. Enable "show protected operating system files" in folder view options

  2. Navigate to C:/windows/

  3. In my case folder called "Installer" was a link (sic!) to D: drive. I've removed it and created a new one.

  4. In other cases this folder might be missing or the permissions might be wrong

I suspect the whole issue was caused by the malware called "Free CUDA Movie Converter" (it comes with other converter-related names). If anyone facing this problem had installed this converters please reply so we can narrow-down the cause. (BTW if you did install this crap unistall it and remove FFProductUpdater from your PC)
