Pretty simple setup. Just a 4800 series video card hooked up via DVI to a monitor. Same with second monitor in extended mode. Creative X-FI sound card. LG GGW-H20L drive. Vista 64 bit SP1 and I set the region code on the player in control panel properties. All optical data burns, etc have always worked fine and still do.
Get the same message for Blu-Ray, HD-DVD, and even my non-copy-protected home-made Blu-Ray video discs (from my own video shoots), All the discs play fine on standalone players.
Regular DVD's play fine on the PowerDVD software. That is all it will play.
The exact version of the software I am running is PowerDVD Ultra 7.3.3723. As noted above, the patches don't work so I have not installed them.
Thanks,
BJB

Still running my LG GGW-H20L and trying to play either Blu-Ray or HD-DVD drives. PowerDVD Ultra 7 gives me an "unsupported format" for both types of discs. I have already gone into device manager and assigned the region code which was one fix. The online FAQ is not helpful as it just states that the disc is not the correct format and to get another one.... well, of course all of these discs play fine in standalone players.
I would be fine with 2 channel Blu-Ray playback for a while if it worked! However I suspect the goal is to make sure that you upgrade....which I would have eventually, if this version even worked for me at all?!!
Any suggestions??

Weatherby,
This link:
http://www.cyberlink.com/downloads/support/powerdvd-ultra/patches_en_US.html
Lists direct links to downloads to update Ultra for various LG drives.
However, the forum recommendation was to let the player download what IT wants to vs. what this download page directs you to. If I try to play a Blu-Ray disc, it prompts me to download an udpate. Further, tech support recommended yet another file to download.
Due to some other projects, I still have not applied any patches so I can provide no input as to what works or does not.
It just shouldn't be this difficult to play movies on a $200 drive.

Michael,
Thanks for your reply. Yes, that is the version that the software just went out and pulled down when I tried to play a disc.
Curious question though. Does the PowerDVD version that I have running KNOW that it is running with an LG GGW-H20L? Or does it just know generically what version it is?

I am trying to determine the correct patch file for the version of PowerDVD Ultra 7.3.3723.0 that came with my LG GGW-H20L.
I have used it for a while with SD DVD's but now are starting to make some Blu-Ray discs so popped a movie in to test.
It immediately wanted to upgrade with a link to this file:
CyberLink.5711_TaRe43_DVD090821-08
I didn't do it because I like to know WHAT I am installing.
So I went to the PowerDVD website and went to the exact link for the patch for my LG drive and it was this file:
LG-ODD.4407_HLDS_DVD080919-02
Two different file names and sizes.....so...hmmmmm...
I sent support an e-mail and THEY suggested I uninstall everything related to PowerDVD, install a new windows install, delete it from the registry, folders, etc....
Sent me a link for what appears to be a new full-blown version of 7.3,
and then 2 patch files for Patch 4617 and Patch 5711.
Why would these files be different than the direct link on their website AND what the player itself wanted to download?
I have read how many people have had problems after downloading the wrong patch and their drive no longer reads both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD (not real critical but I do still have a few lying around.
If anyone could give me some comfort that ONE of these is the right file and method, I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
BJB
PS. The funny part is eventually I would probably upgrade to the full version as I want the 7.1 sound eventually but if this is so hard, I can't imagine what that would take to do!
